    Harvest right warning! I am sad to have to make this post but I want to balance the information about the harvest right freeze dryer. I bought one because all the video reviews I watched said how great they are and the company is amazing. I bet if I had a RUclips channel the issues would be fixed fast! I am currently dealing with an issue with my freezer dryer and the company is really not standing behind what they sell. The unit is still under warranty but they are saying the “board” they want to replace is not. Like how is that not part of the unit. My 1st issue is to even talk to someone about what is going on they make you pay a diagnostic fee. This all happens over email and phone and if my husband was not a very computer savvy guy I have no clue how this would works. Just know if the junk breaks on this 3k plus unit they will be no help and you are on your own!

      How much did you get to use it before it went out, and how much is a new board?

    • @NeboAllen
      @NeboAllen Месяц назад +4

      That’s so wrong! Does your paperwork state the board is not included in the warranty? It sounds like that is the heart of the unit so that’s crazy. Maybe ask a tv news station that has a consumer affairs department for help. That might put some pressure on them to do the right thing (they don’t want negative exposure so you might get some resolution). I hope they’ll change their attitude and stand by their product. Hearing your issue with them makes me hestitate buying one now. I appreciate knowing this about them.

    • @lindaliberty4545
      @lindaliberty4545 Месяц назад +3

      I would like to encourage you to follow through with your problems with this company. I am seriously considering purchasing a unit but not until I hear if, when and how they resolve your issues. Thank you for making us aware. I am not technically “savy” so I would want to know I could get help from the manufacturer if need be. Wishing you the best in getting a resolution amicably and soon.

    One reason we got one is due to possible hurricanes & floods. When we lived on the LA Coast, we flooded out due to H Rita. Flood water will ruin canned stuff and is gross. Those lids also rust quickly in humid climates.
    If you have stuff freeze dried, double bagged and put in a 5gal bucket with a gamma lid, stuff will be cleaner if shtf and that is your only food source. We had no electric for 2 wks, no restaurants open, no cedit cards could be used, no gas could be pumped..yada yada..Luckily we were prepared w cash, gas, and a generator. However, we did have to eat MREs for a good week and they were so full of salt/sodium I could taste it for another week lol.

    For us the ROI is offsetting the ever increasing price, decreasing availability of food paired with the shelf stable nature of freeze dried food. There is no worry if the power goes out. I’d freak if a freeze filled with food spoiled. Two years down the road and it’s still a good investment

    We just bought one of these mainly to prepare freeze dried meals for our hiking trips. To test it out, we just put some random stuff in that we had lying around. Some banana, water melon and mushrooms. They all came out great. The water melon should have needed some extra drying time. It is still a bit tacky in some places but the dry parts are funny treats. After drying there is only 60 grams left of a 1 kg batch of melon so it is no surprise that this is a very sweet foamy candy style treat with an intense melon taste. This may be one of my favorite sweets to give to the kids 😋
    Oh boy, this is gonna be my favorite toy of the year. Can't wait to rob the local food market of a lot of those cheap 'fresh now, gone tomorrow' bags of fruit.

    Being someone who lives in Canada, these machines are hugely expensive, I have watched every thing you can possibly watch about freeze drying. I’m not getting this machine to make candy with it. I’m truly getting it for health reasons. I have digestive problems and with the cost of food being so expensive, food suppliers and business are hiding additives, preservatives and chemicals in our food to make us think we are actually getting value for our money when we’re not. The additives and crap they are using makes us believe we are full when we eat it, adding more and more and cutting out the nutrients, this is causing digestive problems with me and people like me. However, I don’t want to sell candy with my machine but it will recoup some of the cost for me since the machine cost 5000 here. For me I’m dammed if I do and dammed if I don’t. I have to know what’s in my food not a bunch of chemicals I can’t pronounce

There is more space between on the 4 tray but I have not found the space between to be a huge issue. I also ordered the pad insert for the front. I 100% of the time use parchment paper on every run. It’s because the inside drum collects a ring of ice. If the food is too close to the wall of the drum, it won’t dry properly. You can definitely fill the trays more than I did and it ends up holding a lot. About 2.5lbs of food per tray so 12lbs of food total per run.

    *** You do not condition in FD’ing. ***
    That’s only used for dehydrating.
    Your food needs to be 💯 BONE Dry prior to packaging up. I think people get cindysed with the 24 hr upside down jar test to see if the fruit or veggie is bone dry ( never do this with meat, poultry, fish or dairy. It’s very dangerous.)
    When you’re doing the 24 hr test, you place in a mason jar upside down because the moisture will rise to the top ( which is the bottom) and you can visually see it. This test should not take longer than 24 hrs. At that time, you would put back in the FD’r to finish if you detect moisture.
    This is not the same as “Conditioning” as in Dehydrating terms. Conditioning in dehydrating is spreading the moisture left over into all parts of the food so as to not have overly moist pieces. Dehydrated food has a lot more moisture in it and that is the reason that it only keeps 2 years at the most.
    Please be very careful not to practice this with FD’d food as you can end up with Botulism in your food due to the moisture and the low oxygen environment.
    *** You need to be testing all of the food not just some of it, ( if you’re not comfortable with testing with your hands, eyes) because it does no good to test some of the food and bag it all if the untested part has moisture in it. 😃💕

    I've been tinking about getting one in fact I did purchase one a couple years ago then freaked out and canceled the order and paid the cancelation fee. the things that made me freak were, 1. are we going to like the food when rehydrated or snacking on? I'm stillnot sure because I've purchased commercial freeze dried foods and didn't like them, I also purchased freeze dried strawberries but haven't rehydrated them so maybe I'll try that, 2. where to put it in my home to actually use it, I have a split level home where the living space only has 2 bedrooms and the downstairs finished basement is our business, a craft room and a hobby room, the craft room has a lot of space but it's directly under OUR bedroom, I'm concerned I would hear it running all night and the extra bedroom is right next to our room upstairs so still concerned I would hear it all night, is your extra room on the other side of your home and do you hear it running all night?

    • @HomegrownFloridaZ9a
      @HomegrownFloridaZ9a  3 месяца назад

      It’s definitely loud but more similar to a washer or dryer running. My spare room is on the other side of the house so I can’t hear it at all. If I’m in the next room with the bedroom door closed, it’s very faint. Like a soft hum. Harvest right does have a return policy you might want to take a look at. I believe there is a charge but it’s something to consider.

    Hi, congratulations. But i'm curious of how much electricity does it consume. I'm scare of the electric bill.

    • @HomegrownFloridaZ9a
      @HomegrownFloridaZ9a  6 месяцев назад

      This was a concern for me too. I did some research and the machine averages between 9-11 amps per hour. Usually mine runs for 24 hours or so and then off for 24 so I use it about 15 days a month. Depending on what your cost per kilowatt from your electric company is (mine is 13 cents per hours) I’m estimating about $75-90 extra each month. Once I get my first bill, I’ll have a better idea if my estimate is accurate or not. I suspect it will be less but I’ll keep you updated.

    I have had my freeze dryer for about two years. If I had it to do over again, I would not buy the freeze dryer again. If you are trying to stock up a pantry, you really need a lot of space to store you freeze dried food. Plus the taste and texture are not really the same as before freeze drying. I agree some canned foods do taste overcooked or metallic. But you can buy a lot of good quality freeze dried foods for the price of the freeze dryer.
    We also so get a lot of warnings about the temperature living here in Texas. We have to use fans to attempt to cool down the freeze dryer pump even in our air conditioned house.
    I’m planting a lot of tomatoes this year so maybe if we get a good garden yield, I will fall in love with my freeze dryer. But honestly I doubt it.

    • @HomegrownFloridaZ9a

    Wow, quite the experiment, Patrina. I’ve tossed around the idea of a freeze dryer but can’t justify the cost or where to put one. There are only two of us at home now too. Currently thinking that if I spend the $ it could be worth it if my family would use it too. Will you do a follow up showing the quantities and how you store big quantities of freeze dried foods? Seems like a good and fun investment although expensive even at the sale prices.

    My name is Thomas and after getting my freeze dryer as a gift for my wife as a gift for Christmas. When she opened it she was surprised then on the first of January she started freeze drying it worked wonderful but after 30 days ( oh no) it broke now the story begins . I'm disappointed that it took weeks to verify yes it's broken send it back yes you pack it back up send it back yes 2 weeks now it's March and being told 3 to 4 weeks to get it back ( Yes you do all the work) get a computer so many questions to answer you will need one 😢 so I asked for a replacement ( no one is listening) so be prepared not everyone gets a worry free unit. And stay tuned not sure when will get it back remember you need to check how warranty works it harder than you think. Frustrating frustrated but still waiting please please ask the hard questions. Your are going to be shocked. The people that answer the phone are nice but don't have the answers only specific technicians do, no one has the power to make a difficult decision. I believe it should be replaced with a New one ( crickets) Yes silence. So it's your money. Spend it wisely. It's not a blender and you can't just take it back. There are know local service companies to repair them you send it back when the warranty is gone ... What will you do?
