  • Want to know how to freeze dry at home? This videos shows every step of the freeze drying process using a Harvest Right freeze dryer so you can see just how easy it is to preserve your food for years to come.
Have you heard of a Harvest Right freeze dryer and wondered what freeze drying really is? A harvest right freeze dryer is the perfect way to preserve food and create a food storage that can last up to 24 years!
Fresh or cooked foods are placed in the Harvest Right freeze dryer where they are frozen to -40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
Once the food is frozen, the Harvest Right freeze dryer creates a powerful vacuum around the food. Then, as the food is slightly warmed, the ice transitions into vapor and evaporates.
The freeze-dried food is then sealed in moisture and oxygen-proof packaging (Mylar bags, mason jars, or cans) along with an oxygen absorber to ensure freshness until opened.
When water is added to the food it regains its original fresh flavor, aroma, and appearance.

      *TOILET PAPER IS KING!!!*
You can wipe b*tt with it, wipe your tears (when times get rough), turn it into hundreds of little shopping lists, wrap yourself in it like a mummy to scare away zombies, use them as binoculars, stack them for fun, use it as emergency gift wrapping paper for forgotten wedding anniversary (studies show that 75% of all men die under mysterious circumstances due to forgotten wedding anniversaries), you can stick them to your walls to create a padded cell in case you go insane during a lockdown, you can wear toilet rolls under you feet to minimize the pain caused by the crushing of skulls and bones you have to trample over when the civil war begins, use them as bandage, trade it for food, roll it all out and compare the total length of all your rolls to establish your dominance level in the hierarchy (longest paper wins), rip paper into pieces and glue them back together because you have nothing else to do and lastly you can eat it.

Welcome to the freeze drying community. I've had my large dryer and oil less pump for almost 2 years now and still run it almost 24/7. I've done almost everything you could think of. I still watch videos on them to learn new tips and sometimes what not to do. There is a learning curve with these machines that everyone goes through - don't be afraid - you will make mistakes, but over all you'll enjoy your new freeze dryer.
Remember that fresh vegetables need to be blanched as if you were preparing them for the freezer or they just won't come out like you want them to. Store bought frozen vegetables have already had this done and can be dried right from the store. Things with high sugar content don't do well and will never get dry. Things with high fat don't do well - so don't try to do sausage or hot dogs - you'll just have an oily mess to clean up.
Meats (lean) cooked or raw, dairy, eggs, fruits, vegetables, soups, stews, whole prepared meals, all do very well. I like to make my own whole powdered milk and powdered eggs.
Almost any food can be freeze dried with a few exceptions and most will rehydrate well with a few exceptions.
If you ever have a question feel free to reach out - I'll help in any way I can.

In the UK there are companies that do rentals of freeze dryers from.1 month onwards. The more months you rent, there is a slight discount. Still expensive - minimum £600.00 but much cheaper than the £1,000's required for one of these machines. I am.sure in the USA there are companies that do a rental. You do have to pay a deposit as well. Usually about £1,000. in the UK but younger it back. They come and train you how to use it. I can't afford not right now but definitely will save up towards it. I could rent for 1 month do all my fresh foods, veg & fruit.

How do you properly seal the food you choose to keep in the canning jars? Or are those only used for easy access (snacking)? Also, I think I'd want to heat that meal up in the microwave..adding hot water doesn't seem like it would do much. Hot water to rehydrate fruit as well if you don't want to eat them frozen and crunchy? Super curious!

      So they had this store
And they had you know government cheese
      Government meat
But the most dubious thing was
“USDA “certified “ salmon chunks in salt water
      We bought some
      Smelled horrible
Our dog didn’t even eat it
And he ate the scum out of the bottom of the trash can
So we took it to the ocean front
      Ditched the salmon
      Threw away the can

@@JamesBarnesFrancis I totally understand - it's unfortunate that so many people are in the same predicament that you're in. The list of wants is longer than the balance in the check book. As an old fart, my wife and I have spent a life time of saving and money management to be debt free for the past 25 years. But one thing is for sure - we understand that some times it's necessary to spend money to save money.
A Harvest Right freeze dryer will actually pay for itself in less than a year. When compared to buying commercially produced freeze dried foods the HR will process foods at 1/3 the cost. In the past 2 years I have processed over 2700 pounds of foods in my large dryer - if I were to buy FD foods to that same amount, my ruff calculations put that cost around $12K. The foods that I dried 2 years ago were bought when prices were lower than today. Food prices are on the rise and will continue to get worse as we enter this Grand Solar Minimum. (a whole nuther subject)
As a prepper, my goal is to build a 5 year, long term food supply. My dryer has paid for itself 3 times over based on 3 batches per week. I also run my dryer almost 24/7. Currently doing 15 pounds of fruit, bought on sale with 8 quarts of homemade vegetable beef soup to go in next.
At Harvest Right, people can take advantage of their "Lay-a-Way" plan and buy their own dryer.
I do understand that many people still can't afford one of these driers. They are rather expensive, with an up front cost between $3K and $5K. I work for a living too, so it's not like I'm dripping with cash. But - I saw a need for putting up foods in storage and freeze dried foods are with out a doubt the best way to store foods. Doing my own foods is simply the most cost effective way to achieve my goals.
FYI - the large dryer will process more food than the small and medium dryer.....combined. Making the large dryer the best value over the long run.
If you have a "need" for one - you'll find a way to have one. They are a well built machine and will last for decades. I know people who are still using machines that were the first models. A bit crude compared to todays models.
The large HR dryer has been the best prepping tool I own. As long as I still have electric power and foods I can afford, I'll be freeze drying and storing them away for when I need them.
I highly recommend to everyone - find a way to acquire a freeze dryer and start storing foods for long term. There will be a need in the near future. Food will be the next world crisis.
