This is true. I started reading your books in prison in 2010, The Art of Seduction, 33 Strategies of War, 48 Laws of Power, studied and annotated them day in and day out among hundreds of others but your works in particular I had always wanted to get into but never had the time. When I went to prison I was like, man I finally have time to really read. This skill has saved me in the free world since, these last 3 years ive been recovering, and using my down time to build myself up. Thank you for all you do Robert.

Great subject to talk about. Everyone has different needs & wants to fulfill a work/life balance. Health activities are exercise and mindfulness. Yet, those are activities that require effort so some leisure has to take place. Something easy & enjoyful like watering flowers or painting or anything that is just fun. Something that you've been putting off will make you feel better in that you finally accomplished something that either needed to be done or that you just wanted to do. Sending an email or a letter to a friend is a great way to stay connected. Thank you, as always, for your advice Robert Greene.

Chronic states of boredom with all of existence is what led to my substance abuse. I have found reading books to be the most effective way of dealing with this problem that I still struggle with daily. They tend to extend the periods of time in which I want to take a "hit" to stave off the feelings of boredom and powerlessness because reading things to completion cause a mild euphoric feeling that overcomes my cravings for extended periods of time. Plus, I become an expert in many random things.

Boredom to me tells me that nothing right now will satisfy right now I'm too doped out. Doing anything to get our of this state would be instant gratification.
It's the body trying to tell me I don't need to do anything but let myself be bored to rebalance my dopamine. Be silent and content without having to do anything.

Yes Boredom is often quite useful because in many cases we get in our own way and create problems in order to manufacture a purpose whilst bored. Oftentimes I feel we sometimes have to step back and receive the boredom for a short period to simply allow ourselves a period of respite from issues. Can't say I always follow that sentiment, usually end up doing something hedonistic instead. But the sentiment is there

Wow I thought I was going to hear something different funny enough realizing it is the opposite of what you would teach. I was thinking you would have to fight that boredom. I been not wanting to work on a person project for a few days now but I been slowly working on it while doing something after say 10 minutes that keeps me entertained for a bit. Realizing now, what work I have done for this has actually been better than if I were to force myself into this. I know the reason for procrastinating might be due to the unknown of how people will react to the project but just compromising with myself to work and do something mindless that is fun is helping me get into the work. Thank you for the video love watching these, been on 50th Law and love it so far going for 48 Laws of Power after I finish!

When I'm bored, it's a signal to me that I'm either ignorant about something I need to do OR I am ignoring something which I know I need to do.
And, when I've processed something difficult (most often a time spent on personal reflection/introspection) I also allow myself a time of distraction with either a film or fictional book just to give my brain an opportunity to relax.

It takes great wisdom to understand that man does not have free will but acts from the laws of nature: such as, the law of necessity, the law of self-preservation, the law of inertia, and the law of cause and effect. Stupidity implies that the individual is confused and does not know it. He acts from his limited perception of reality. Judging and expressing contempt is our way of dealing with this problem, which doesn’t go anywhere.

I came here to say much the same thing. I used to get bored, but now I just “am”. My mind keeps me occupied & EVERYTHING & everyone IS creation, & so all is worthy of my wonder… the hard part is learning not to think, the inside of my skull often sounds like a tiny crowd of people all trying to talk at once 🙉 but yeah, I enjoy my own company very much too.

That’s an excellent explanation. In a matter of fact, and I’m speaking from experience just like the vast majority of us as I assume, instant pleasure activities consume much time, depleting your energy further more and leaving you with emptiness and a dark sense of guilt.. I know that choosing a slow productive action/ behavior, like reading a book or playing chess might be challenging, especially if you decide to start a project like learning a musical instrument, which might cost you the gamble of not sticking to it which might give you a feeling of failure or disappointment.. but what can you do instead if not doing something good to your mental health, scrolling social media forever? Sitting down with nothing to do but to live the feeling of boredom would be a much better option than scrolling.. in a matter of fact, I’ve found it to be peaceful and it’ll easily show you the best way to go.
