aka Reconstituted meat - aka MRM (Machine Reclaimed Meat) where they get the sinew, fat, marrow of unused pork and remake it into a "rib". Hence why it is "cheap". In the US they go further and make steaks out of the method and use meat glue to stick it together, meat glue (transglutaminase) is banned in most European countries for a reason, so if you don't have your fake steaks well done you are chewing on that meat glue that can do bad things to your stomach if not cooked through thoroughly. When i was a lad (about 50 years ago) the local butcher practically gave pork ribs away....i was looking at the price in my local Asda the other day..... horrendous....used to be a very cheap meal now it's beyond alot of family budgets. Buy these pit your own barbecue sauce on them
They were a cheap meal when people just use to boil them,as they tasted like nothing, but once people learned how to really cook them, the demand went up,and so did the price.
Next time you visit Lidl, can I recommend the aromatic crispy half duck with pancakes and what I thought was plum sauce (the label on the packet says it’s hoisin!) It’s about £6.49 and I can’t stop eating it: like an addiction. You find it in its own box in the meat section. It’s as good as my local take-away. I cook it for 30 minutes 200C and put the sauce and pancakes in the microwave for 1 minute.
No no no. I bought a pack. The wife says where’s the spring onions. I will get some at the weekend. Forgets so I will get some next time. By the time she does. She then says oh there out of date and throws them in the BIN 😡
I've never had any luck with precooked ribs, they all tasted weird. Unless you're in a big hurry, good ribs are really easy to make in the oven. Biggest hassle is cleaning up the roasting pan afterwards. I take a rack, smear with mustard (yellow or Dijon, I probably wouldn't use Coleman's) and sprinkle well with BBQ steak/rib seasoning mix, and put in a baking pan and cover with foil, and throw them in the oven for a couple hours. After a couple hours I uncover and increase the heat to 350 to cook of the excess liquid and brown them up, or move to the gas grille to brown them up, then sauce and cook a bit more to caramelize the sauce a bit. Friends agree they are better than most of the ribs served up at roadhouse restaurants or even at the various ribfests around here.
Oven dries these up so they are like an old boot. Cut bag in half and microwave, all moisture is kept in and taste lovely. The other lidl ones with BBQ sauce (£4.69) are gorgeous when done in the microwave.
I agree, this type of rib is much better microwaved. I just cut a couple of small slits in the top of the bag to let the steam out. They cook in their own juices and stay moist.
You're right about the oven drying them out so try this ; - cook in the oven but covered so they can steam. I cut the rack in half to make 'em fit, place on a baking tray and cover with an upturned enamel pie dish. Uncover for the last 5 mins when you put the sauce on. Meat falls off the bone, sauce starts to dry and caramelize in the open oven. Best of both worlds.
I bought some of the pizzas you reviewed from this brand at Lidl - to be fair, mine had a fair bit of cheese - the thing I found odd was the size, not enough for 1 main serving and far too small for 2 people, but the taste and crust were decent. Keep up the great work!
Hi Gareth👍thanks for reviewing these mate,I saw the Chinese flavour version the other day but didn't get them as I wasn't sure if they'd be any good. The meat seemed reasonable tbf so I'll try the ones I saw now! Cheers again and not long until that 100k buddy,it's well deserved ✌️🍻
I can get a similar rack of baby back ribs called Lloyd’s bbq ribs. They are around $9.00 and the sauce is super. They are packed in the sauce and are tasty.
*Outstanding Review of these new American inspired Bourbon Whiskey Ribs 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌* Thanks again.i had noticed them, pondered. Plants,or most of them are coming along great.- love the garden side of things. You probably feeling it because you need more protein. A lot of your longer life energy is from protein and complex carbs are best, like sweet potatoes etc. I obviously don’t practice it much but I learned from my niece who is a personal trainer and has done her nutrition qualification too. You need at least 5/6 ounces of protein four times ,five times a day, plus you need a certain amount of carbohydrates. If still hungry,up the protein. It will sustain you more. Secret tip. To help you cutting back Gaz one of the things to do is replace potatoes with Sweet potatoes which are actually similar to yams and are healthier, Taste better and will bulk you out like spuds do IMO! 👌
Great review thank you, I, ll give this product a miss, I am not keen on this brand myself, having had other products by the same brand. Thanks for all your hard work 👍👍
hi Gaz from down south, looks tasty, our tesco does more or less the same thing so it might be worth trying that one, having a new Lidel being built at the moment next to tesco in the retail park, but i will stay with tesco for the quality,
I do like a good rack of ribs Gareth but usually just get them from the Chinese takeaway with syrup, gravy or barbecue sauce,I also love my food especially bread which is my downfall, another great review big pal
I cook mine in the Air Frier just wrap in foil with opening in the top. I make my own sauce for the ribs. You can cut the ribs in half if you want and put them side by side and they'll fit on your oven tray better (if you are doing them in the oven.)
I heard you say that you want to go on a low carb lifestyle, two years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, my blood sugar levels were out of control and through the roof, I was put on meds but I also went low card, plenty of protein, leafy vegetables, cauliflower, broccoli, I can have potatoes once I cook them then let them go cold, once reheated from cold the card count is drastically reduced, I got my blood sugar under control and I'm off the diabetic meds, I'm controlling my diabetes by diet and exercise, just be careful of a thing called Keto Flu, when you go low carb your body craves the sugars that's in carbs and you feel like crap for a while as your body adjusts.
Just a slight correction Jack Daniel’s isn’t a bourbon per say, it’s classed as a Tennessee Whiskey has stated on the main label of a bottle, Jim Beam is classed as a bourbon but I’m sure any US viewers may correct me on this but great review as always I won’t be buying it that’s for sure. Keep up the great reviews 👍
Great video, yeah it looks like it's just heat and eat, but bring your own sauce. The best would be on the grill, but sometimes you just don't have the time.
It's a bit underwhelming, I mean I wish Lidl delivered online as it takes me nearly £6 in bus fares to get there and back. I have a Farmfoods in walking distance, luckily, everything is so hit or miss these days, I would just love a well stocked local butcher, greengrocer and bakery, that would be more convenient! Good honest review as always Gareth x
I buy at least one rack of ribs per week from Lidl. I think they are good value compared to my local rib shop. I rarely use the sauce that's included, because I'm not really into all the different BBQ flavours. So I add my own anyway, usually a hot sauce, Hoisin or Sweet Chilli. I recently bought some boneless beef short ribs from Lidl that came with Bourbon sauce and they were pukka. I've done the rib rack in both the oven and the microwave. The microwave is obviously quicker, but they also come out a bit more juicy and just fall off of the bone. Going back to Richmond sausages ? I find them very unappealing 😝. I now go for Lidl Bratwurst sausages. They are at least 80 - 90 % pork, ( or chicken ), and one bratty is good enough for a breakie. And if course you can just cook a couple, pile on some tomato sauce and sprinkle some curry powder and you've got a nice Currywurst. It's all down to what you like and how you can change up an item to match your taste buds. I confess that when I see British Pork sausages on offer ? I buy them, cook them off and use them as dog snacks 👍.

Excellent vid, get the same in Canada for the price. I think I would of double wrapped in foil in the oven. In a pan on the stove, mix the sauce with butter, sugar, marmalade or jam, honey and slowly bring to a boil then turn off. For the last 10 mins remove the foil, place ribs on a rack and broil. Then cut, mix into the sauce.

I tried Mcennedyr BBQ Pulling Pork, almost tasteless

Oh dear oh dear
I do like your videos. You’ll soon get used to low carbs. Up the exercise and up the meat. Don’t forget the veg. Essential!!!!
Forget the sauce I know you enjoyed that ! Cheers Tony 👍👌
Cheers
Hi Gareth, shame the sauce has let the ribs down, Jack Daniels BBQ sauce is nice, I think Steak sauce would go well with those ribs. Have a great weekend Take care
Cheers you too mate
Do u still use ya beer machine mate, im loving mine at the minute haha
Not for a while mate
Lidl and Morrisons do a version, very tasty.
Hiya Gareth, we'll let's be honest with each other. Mcennedy owed you at least one good plate of grub. We suffered with you on hot-dog sarnie(almost made the wife and I recycle our lunch) The cheese free cheese pizza, not greatest. But, recovering from the the c**p. Ribs looked (when finished) passable. Just a thought, if you put them under the grill to brown and crisp up, could be a bit better. Fortunately always tomorrow. Carry on Sir😉Allan&Family
You look slim Gareth I bet you can still fit in your army trousers
Nope lol
Similar ribs with a beautiful strong bbq sauce are only E3.99 in Ireland.
Did not mention that these ribs for e3.99 are available in Aldi
Really try Morrisons slow cooked sweet and Smokey barbecue ribs they really nice price £5.00 lovely sauce the sauce is on the ribs not in a packet
BIB came in handy GAZ 😂😂,looks good but lacking flavour me thinks 😮❤❤❤
Sainsbury have a 450g apx for £4.50 how much different is this verses lidi version that are more for cheaper.
you need to get a washable pinny
you all sit in the table that is new.
My fiancé loves BBQ ribs, glad you reviewed these mate
You're welcome
The plants look good Gaz😂.
Cheers
Same stock as that American week Lidl had. You picked the wrong week and continent to scout that supermarket.
