I think there’s something really pleasurable about cooking your bacon yourself, hearing the sizzle and dishing it up. It’s hardly a chore. I think I’ll stick to the traditional way 😂
Very true.. I love cooking, it brings me alot of joy and pleasure.. However some people cannot cook to save there life and this is the only solution for them.🙂
When Greene King Brewery was closed in Long Melford they sold the pigs off as they weren't gone get fed the remainder of the brewing process. That pork bacon was the best I've ever eaten.
Hi Gareth - this 'Luxury' bacon works out at £20.90 per Kg, absolute rip off. The most expensive streaky bacon in Asda is 'ASDA Extra Special Oak Smoked 20 British Thin & Crispy Bacon Rashers' @ £17.78 per Kg if you buy one pack or £13.90 per Kg if you buy two packs for £5.00 - it is dry cured, is actually smoked (not smoke 'flavour') and is freezable.
Some stores will inflate the price of cheap products and drop the price of expensive products to make it seem like a bargain, end result is you pay roughly the same anyway.
I freeze my bacon. As someone who lives on their own and isn't going to get through 14 rashers before they go off it's a must. I put some pre-cut pieces of grease-proof paper between each pair of rashers (otherwise they'll all be stuck together when you want to use them) and fry them as needed. They taste exactly the same and cooking from refrigerated and I know they'll last me
surely cooking fresh bacon is much quicker!! Funny how us as the public are hammered for recycling and reducing waste, yet manufacturers overkill packaging. Take a bag of minstrels for example, half a bag full. Tandoori Spice tubs from Tesco - half full - not to mention the packaging on packing that's in packaging
The huge packs of cooking bacon in all the major supermarkets are pefect for bacon sandwiches. The batches vary so you might have to boil for a few minutes to remove the curing salt solution. No way will I buy normal packed bacon unless it's in my reduced haul from the Coop. My butcher friend does his own batches of dry cure bacon which is really awesome.
Fresh bacon (from raw) can be cooked quite easily in the microwave anyway, and you get a rather decent tasty result. In my average 800w microwave it takes 3-4 mins for 4 regular sliced rashers, or a little longer for extra crispyness. Of course, all microwaves can vary, so you might need to experiment a little on your first attempt.
The microwave is indeed a great way of prepping quick, crispy streaky bacon. You need a shed load of kitchen towl though - I'd suggest three sheets & a plate below & three sheets above.
I've just finished my latest batch of frozen bacon. I now have a bag of separated, frozen slices resembling a stack of shoe insoles, not all tangled up like these. The secret is to freeze them with a weight top, interleaved with plastic sheets (I used vacuum seal bag cut open) and *not* cling film or tin foil, which will just rip to pieces and leave you with a solid frozen brick. Is it a faff? A bit. But worth it, if you do a big enough batch, to have perfect rashers available anytime.
Don't eat bacon myself but those plastic tubs are great for storing food, cards and nick hacks too. Thank you for the video Gareth and keep warm as well

Maybe for someone who wants a quick bacon butty or wants bacon on something but just wants it quick. I dunno. I've seen pre cooked bacon before in supermarket chilled sections usually with things like ham . It being in the luxury range is what baffles me.

Our Iceland closed in October last, but handy for a quick Saturday breakfast for two😊
One pack looks just enough for a decent bacon barm 😇
That's a first for me about possible bones in bacon. Plus I agree with you about proper bacon from the butchers.
I used to buy pork straight from the farm near Melton Mowbray. They had been fed on Stilton cheese. It was fantastic xx
Not the cheese, the lovely (and delicious) little piggies are fed the whey by-product from the cheese making.
How interesting if I had seen that on my visits there I would have purchased some.
