      It's a bit like fast food restaurants. You go in and see a picture of a nice juicy burger then, when you get it to your table and unwrap it, you have something that looks like a bit like flattened hedgehog and nothing like the picture at all. It ought to be covered by the trade descriptions act.

    There is no way that that tiny bit of chicken was 18% of the volume of ingredients! I'm from the US so maybe I'm missing something but if you told me that the chicken was 18% if the total amount of stuff in that pie, I'd call you a liar

    They`re trying to replace the ingredients and keep flavour with loads of fat(78.8 g fat in this pie/112% of your daily allowance). Another thing some supermarkets do is to replace fruit with sugar which keeps the price down and tricks our taste buds. The most appealing thing about this item is the box. lol

  • @davidjacovelli5986
    @davidjacovelli5986 Месяц назад +1

    Lidl is my usual haunt, being just down the road from me, so this is particularly useful. I'm of an age myself where I really miss those massive, full pies that Morrisons used to do, back when they had fresh food available rather than all packaged, and don't mind paying for what I like, so if the price were high, I'd still be there because I'm getting then what I actually want to eat. With these cheap pies, I always feel you can taste what's missing, if you get me. They dissatisfy, all the time, and merely being cheap is not an actual pleasure, I feel.

  • @wildthing6668813
    @wildthing6668813 Месяц назад +1

    They are reducing the percentages of the main ingredients and with some other ingredients they are using cheaper ingredients like palm oil. There will only be so far they can go with reducing the main ingredients like beef, chicken and pork before the pie isn't a pie. If the pie is 450g and they claim 18% then it's 81g of chicken per pie. One thing about any product is that they can put the letter E on the packaging meaning that there could be a lot less of the main ingredients in the pie or product. The pie could have as little as 3% chicken and bacon, just a few small pieces and more leeks than anything and they call it a chicken pie.
    Always look for the letter E on any product this is what the producers do so they can put less of the product in the item and still call it by the main ingredients name i.e. a chicken, bacon and leek pie.

  • @dingnextstop
    @dingnextstop Месяц назад +3

    Best pies I ever had were from P’s Pies in my hometown but it shut down in the late 90s! I got offered work there when I was a nipper but I was already working but my mates did and the pies were top class no skimping on filling at all and the pastry was very buttery and it was always a good way to start a weekend before a few beers!

    You could take it back to the store Manager on the plate as you showed us and ask them some serious questions, one of which is; who determines the quality and contents?

    Since all the shortages, a lot of Lidl products have become no better that their rivals. Pies have gone up in price but the quality and amount of filling have become poor. Lidl stuff used to be crammed with content, sadly not anymore.

    I'm in agreement with you Gareth.
    Lidl usually provide better products than this. The lack of real content in the pie is pretty shameful. Not good enough Lidl !!!

    When you opened that pie it was the first time I've laughed aloud at one of your videos.
    18% chicken (WITH added water so even less as it's done by weight) means you have 1 mouthful of chicken in every 6.
    Appalling quality.
