- Prepare for a Monaco Grand Prix track guide with a difference: As we take you around a full lap on the streets of Monte Carlo, Jake Boxall-Legge stops off at each corner to recall some of the famous incidents to have happened between the walls over the years. It's not just the well-known crashers who get it wrong here - as our guide shows, even the absolute best in F1 history have ended up in Monaco's barriers
As Nelson Piquet once described Monaco:
"It's like taking your bicycle and doing laps on your apartment"
(Kind of)
*Nice*
Q: "What is the most difficult corner in Monaco?"
A: "Yes."
@LeTang Poor Maldonado XD
Saint devote
@Parallax Ah yes, a move I like to call "The Grosjean Silverstone Special"
I can just hear Kimi saying “I’m going to my boat” to the race engineer
"Champion of Wall everywhere"- Kubica.
0:40 Gotta be alert on a street circuit
Heheh nailed it.
I don't get it ^^

Looking at that kind of accident, the halo would save some lives
@@zank4684 No, it wouldn't avoid any of them.
@Charles Szasz The halo broke in Leclerc's accident, it wouldn't prevent anything with a direct hit or with a piece of debris going into him. You either go for a full closed cockpit if you want safety, or leave it. It's F1, risks are a factor.
@@masters.1000 lol youre a clown, the halo has been proven to have played a huge rol saving romain

5:39 charles leclerc did not get it wrong, his brakes failed
He did get it wrong lol he failed to cool his brakes
@@iliovecaRS Nope if you listen to the radio from that race they tell Charles to brake save and tell him hes done it well. Brake line busted open due to a high pressure component failure, wasnt his fault
If you watch the video you can see one tire completely locked up and the other still spinning at full speed. Nothing he could have done to prevent that.
He masterfully slowed down his car against the wall, making the crash less than it would have been, as mentioned in other comments his brakes failed, and he did the best that any human could do. Look for him to be world champion after Hamilton's run is done [in fact I think Charles is WHY Hamilton's run is going to end]

This may be the best 'help me remember all the hinkey corner names' Guide to Monaco I've ever seen.
You could have easily done a Crashstappen counter rather than a Maldonado one
Exactly. Max crashes at least once every Monaco gp weekend.
But Maldonado's more fun. Verstappen didn't have that many incidents in Monaco.
@@julioling9329 lol, you're joking right? Max has had a crash at every Monaco gp weekend he's been, since the beginning of his F1 career.
@@weallfollowmanutd After Monaco he has been flawless and we are a year further
@@weallfollowmanutd at least he is good enough. As for every Monaco GP, at least he was alright in 2017.
5:38 if i remember corectly leclerc had a Brake failure in 2018 so no driver error nice try Autosport better luck next time in tricking me
The ROKCER correct, brake failure it was
Yeah he did have a *BRAKE* failure. Doesnt deserve to be painted as one who "crashes into the back of others".
@Nick Cassetta It's not that hard to find that mistake if you have a slightly better attention span than a goldfish.
I would think they would remember, at least say something like "Hope your brakes don't fail-"
brake
a bit disrespectful to maldonado. i get its easy to make him the butt of all racing jokes but this felt like punching down, considering other drivers with a lot of mistakes around monaco. he was a grand prix racer after all. more brave than 99% of us. and better still he is a GP winner. its one thing when the comments make fun of him, but a whole publication?
Hamilton was in there at least 3 times, Crashtappen twice for the same corner.
Bring back the Pastor.
Yeah, I distinctly remember Pastor being described as a Monaco specialist by Autosport back in the day, which given the amount of times he won/was on the podium in the GP2 rounds there is justified. Infact he generally excelled at tight street circuits like Monaco or Singapore.
Well, Pastor never actually finished the Monaco Grand Prix. Ever, in his 5 years in F1
It’s been 4 years since he left F1, leave Pastor alone.
never!
He's been gone less time than Jacques Villeneuve, and I still remember Villeneuve's whining.
he's a legend.....for all the wrong reasons.
I also found that edit pretty cringey
He's had more 1 podium then most everyone outside Merc...Ferr...RB

6:07 Holy fuck. I'm amazed, and very glad that Martin Bundle is still around and commenting as well as he does.
Please make this into a series! Really enjoyed it.
I watched this video, booted up F1 2019, and crashed on my out lap.
You tried some heroics into Saint Devote didn't you?
1:50 Rip Charlie
The reason this is _'the jewel in the crown of F1'_ is because it's one of only two circuits from the classic era that still punishes drivers severely for mistakes.
Personally, I think it should be a double points race.
Sponsors and Teams must hate this video 😂
sponsors not so much, crashes especially with a marina as background tend to garner a lot of extra attention, the teams probably, i bet by now monaco is a calculated thing, it's not a track , it's an affront to the sport and a parade for rich people, it shouldn't be on the calender, do the big celebration ceremony there at the end of the season or something but it's unracable
Thanks. I’ll bear this in mind for next time I decide to drive an F1 car around Monaco.
Instead of Maldonado count, You should've put "fellow drivers" count :p
good call
This vedio was informative about Monaco. A lot of history 🤔.
I'd just like to say: I love the Monaco Grand Prix. Some of the most memorable races I have seen have been here.
The incident with Leclerc and Hartley was not a mistake but a brake problem . Leclerc didn't get it wrong his car failed. If you are going to do a video on how NOT to drive Monaco don't include mechanical problems
Again, Autosport get their facts wrong.
@@weallfollowmanutdYeah so do many journos and RUclips channels it's unsurprising.
They just said "crashing", which is what happened. How it happened is not the issue, so no mistake in this video at that point at least.
It was still crash though.
They didnt say he made a mistake. They said he crashed. You crash when ur brakes fail.
Still waiting for someone to use any other words other than 'glitz' and 'glammer' to describe Monaco
You could had a "Verstappen count", he had as many shunts than Maldonado! And he's still there...
you forgot about kubica
I think he has crashed here 5 times in 4 years. He crashed 3 times in 2016!!!
Also M.Schumacher
@@lukasgarage956 But Schumacher was there for nearly 20 seasons, Verstappen only 4 so far!
4:02 Jenson Button?
:D No no no no no... "How Not to drive.."? Please, just load a video of Ayrton Senna's 1984 Monaco race drive *in the Rain.* And then tell every current F1 Driver "You guys Do That Now" and let us see who is left standing.
While I'm sure Senna would win in the wet, don't forget that the modern "winning driving style" is defined by artificially regulated tire wear, not outright speed. Senna would perform very poorly in a 2019 F1 race.
Give our modern boys an unlimited supply of Super Softs, plenty of fuel, and a grid of cars far lower in downforce than today, and I'm sure you would see a show to remember.
I reckon if the conditions was like that we'd get a Williams 1-2 big time
The redone Ste. Devoute corner(I think it was the early 2000s) makes overtaking even trickier now. There was a chance of going to the right of a car on there in the old days.
Should be a Max Verstappen count as well.
7:18 Stoffel Vandoorne as well.
I thought Maldonado count was hilarious until number 4 then I remembered that this was just Monaco alone then i lost it, i started cackling
All we know is, *no heroics into Sainte Devote*
2:08 all xMattyG fans: WE PARTYED IN THE AMBER LOUNGE!
Ok I’ll take this into account when I drive in Monaco with my f1 car and team that I’m in
Talks about Maldonado but Max have the same amount of crashes there
Yeah so does Hamilton if you count them up as well
Monaco Grand Prix Track and maybe two other tracks I think really test the metal of a Formula 1 driver. Some tracks test the driver's endurance, because of how hot it is on the track and others have limited places where you can pass another formula 1 car. A couple of other tracks have the history, like Silverstone Circuit, British Grand Prix (52 times around the track that is 5.09km) and Monza, but Monaco is one of my favorites. Going around the corners 😲.
Me with max steering assist, max braking assist, full traction control on my mobile game real racing 3: GG Ez Nubz
I see a counter for Pastor, but I heard Nico Rosberg's name quite a few times in the same video, and he became World Champion
ahhh the Maldozer..what a gem
Leclerc and Giovinazzi forgot to watch this video
Turn 1 of Monaco in a nutshell: "No heroics into Sainte Devote, please"
I could even survive 12 laps of monaco in the game lmao
Leave Pastor alone. He use to be very fast in Monaco.
Pastor i miss you
To be fair, Leclerc in 2018 lost his brake on one side...
Man take a look at that guys pants at 0:18 what a time to be alive
Every corner generates incidents
Brilliant video. Please make one for every race moving forward
the funniest fact is probbaly the last one. button winning a warrior race but can't even remember where he has to park ^^
The Canadian GP has the wall of champions, here every single straight and corner is one of champions ;-)
That was a Schumacher break check, not a Montoya punt
Monaco is one course all drivers want to win, but I bet, in reality, none of them REALLY want to race at. It's OK being first out in practice and having a few unobstructed laps so they can enjoy the challenge of this track, but at the start of the actual race, every driver on the grid is having an "Aw, shit, not again." moment.
6:50 Additional Maldonado Count in the swimming pool pile up.
He also once deliberately hit Perez at Portier.
Maybe the merc spins takes out rest of grid and Williams gets a 1,2 lol
Max counter : 4
Really, really good video!!!
Love the Maldonado count...
You forgot to add Crashtappen's crash count. Its almost on par with Maldonado.
Also Leclerc brake problem has nothing to do with his driving skills.
So does Hamilton's crash count
Always terrifies me seeing so many people on the balconies. Some day there is going to be a terrible tragedy.
It would need to be an extremely improbable accident for that to happen.
@@goodhorsehymn Would it? Try googling balcony+collapse
Every track should have a Maldonado count
If you´re not on the limit of you and your car, you ´re not a racing driver...
Monaco just penalises that driving limit more aggressively and pretty much says what Monaco is all about...
It is for sure a magnificent technical circuit where drivers must be at their top level to achieve success, even if is just the whole weekend of racing without any mistakes.
2011 front wings look so simple compared to today
2019 front wings are simpler
Why does the audio towards the end get so much quieter (Perhaps Jake notices and starts almost shouting at the final part, well almost)? Standards are dropping.
Great video, as always. Love the Chrashtor Maldonado tally..😂 But "Fewer wheels" (not "less wheels"), JBL...
Sorry!
Why is Coulthard facing the wrong way on the thumbnail?
TLDR If u dont drive perfectly, you'll hit a barrier
I’m amazed anyone managed to finish this race...

You might make fun of Maldonado, but Michael Schumacher has 6 retirements at Monaco. OK, and 5 wins.
Where's the verstappen count? He's had atleast 3 incidents here.

Answer: Heroics into Sainte Devote
You guys should do a video strictly dedicated to drivers purposefully ruining other drivers qualifying times like Schumacher/Alonso '06 and Rossberg denying Hamilton at the Monaco race. I would love to see that!
Procession like racing is inevitable at this track as well
Stroll has entered the chat
Norris has left the server.
5 mins into this vid and 5 unskippable ads have shown up
WTF
Not wild about the flippant 'Maldonado Count'. Don't forget that his incompetence caused life-changing injuries to a marshal there in 2005.
A lesson in English: it's fewer wheels, not less wheels. Strewth.
Monaco is either really exciting or really dull.
How not to drive? Maybe that’s the Crash gate?
Didn't one of the past Racing Point drivers get a concussion after wrecking from losing control of his car when heading into the chicane after the tunnel?
The Maldonado count made this video
What was your Max Verstappen count?
Why is there a Maldonado count but not a Verstappen count when they feature essentially equally in the video?
Well, no heroics into sainte devote
Tl;dw: all corners in this circuit fucks you up, sideways and backwards if you are not careful. Got it.
Not fair to say that Palmer didn't make it to the first corner. Unless you ignore the fact that he did it many laps into the race.
I think most men think they can race cars, i believe i would be pretty fast on a race track however when you look at Monaco I don't think i could push a car that hard as i would definitely crash at some point.
Think there's as many Verstappen and Nico crashes as Pastor crashes tbh. Maybe 1 less, but EVERYONE cocks it up at Monaco. If Senna who won there 6 times can still crash that proves my point.
Tabac means newsagents in french not tobacco shop
No heroics into Saint Devote please!
You don't even have footage but you put five adverts in. Automatic downtick.
Who votes for #AYRTONSENNA as the best and most spectacular at Monaco?! ...and probably one of the best and most amazing drivers ever :)
senna was boring in monaco, ill take maldonado over him any day of the week
@@stopstalkingyouspookybastard yeah, the guy had 5 poles, 6 wins and 8 podiums within 10 races. It's boring when only one driver is winning every year like Senna almost did at Monaco between 1987 and 1993.
@@joaoandrade2828 exactly man. mercedes is practically winning every race right now, are you having fun?
