The russians were mocked, because they build them absolutely everywhere, eventhough they were not able to monitor the area where they build them. And they just dumped the dragons teeth in some Fields and didn't connect them with steel wires and usually without barbed wire.
Thats how you got videos that show the ukrainians push the things away without getting shot at.

To be fair, these fortifications were never put to the test as Ukraine's offensive got wiped out long before even reaching them.

The media and Government officials tend to not want to speak on the depth of Russia's preparations for this offense. It will all play out on a global level. Some feel the US doesn't represent a leading superpowers stature anymore. The chess board has been reset, and a new game has started.

they cant, Ukraine lost the conventional war and are now playing defense and using terror tactics. 1/4 trilliion dollars + all intel and advice and in the end they still got beat down

I'm afraid that the soldiers of Ukraine will run out before the Russians reach these fortifications.
If these defensive lines are being built on the Russian model that was used to stall the Ukrainian "summer counteroffensive" then those implementing them should rethink because the Russians who designed these defensive models are equally capable of dismantling them.
unfortunately, Ukraine and Western strategies are filled with clowns and their politicians are only interested in making money out of this war.
It's hard to dismantle something when nearby troops are shooting artillery, antitank missiles and machine guns at you, I don't think you understand the whole point of them, the whole point is to slow down an assault enough for nearby defense to destroy them

Surviving an existential battle with a much larger enemy is a matter of keeping up the fight one day at a time.
Actually, when opposing a larger army the best thing to do is to not go to war with them. To accept peace when it is offered as it was in both Minsk and Istanbul. Losing Crimea may have been bad, but it was total foolishness to pretend that it could be retaken. Ukraine can continue to fight, but that only means more Ukrainian deaths and the loss of even more territory.

The new defense structures unfortunately need to be the entire length of the border. Here's why: After WW1 the French built the Maginot line to protect against Germany. In WW2, the Germans just simply went around it in areas where the line did not reach.

1:00 that U around the wire and the wire does not look stable. I do not think it will be a problem pushing throw these. But guess every minute delay is important. But I would hope for them to make a better effort building these for their own sake.
Ukrainians had from 2014 to prepare defense lines along the common border but only minimal effort was expended, given it's a large border especially if counting in Belarus, but i believe there was no proper thought given to build extensive defenses. This is a positional war with classic trenchlines and dug in troops, so they should have prepared accordingly. It's a positional war (and it always devolves into stalemate) and it has proven to be true for some time now. If Ukrainians attempt to play mobile warfare they lose. They must conserve their assets and be on the defense until which time they have built their combat power and when they feel ready go on a large counter offensive, it may or may not work, but this is how it must be done. Another problem is Russia has a lot more firepower such as artillery superiority so they pound these defense lines. Very tough situation for Ukrainians.
This was the plan. Give your cronies millions to build defence lines. Then the inevitable happened and the money was used to build security fences around their newly purchase homes in the south of France.
Imagine having to dig through roots and branches, the clearing that must take place first, the difficulty in constructing these defenses must be insane, the soil, the water level. Both sides mostly prefer many smaller zigzag trenches.
@@persianfire6139 Of course, it's not like in the desert, like for example the ones built in 1980s during Iran-Iraq war. They were on a much larger scale and much more extensive. Type of terrain matters when it comes to building fortifications. This is why the battles in Ukraine is from treeline to treeline on these agriculture patches.

Thats what i was thinking. While very effective against ground troops, if the attacking side has aviation those fortifications can be easily negated. A single sortie can create a big enough passway.

Should also fortify all cities and make hardened shelters mandatory for all new homes and businesses.
Defensive barriers only work if you are watching them. If you are not watching them the enemy will break through very soon. Yet, if you are watching them a smaller force can defend easier against even a somewhat larger force.
They are not going forward anymore and they won't get back what they have lost. Fortify the lines just like the Russians have. I could see things ending up with a DMZ similar to South and North Korea

this shows the fallacy of Russian doctrine. no airborne assault to worry about and ground progress too slow to prevent Ukraine from consolidating defensive lines. Tells us Russian ground offensive is what it has been, no air supremacy, and a retreating navy. fascinating to see it all.
They need to look at Germany and the Maginot line, the French didn’t build defences near the Luxembourg and Belgium borders so that’s where the Germans came through. Same goes if it all goes pear shaped, the Russians would go through Belarus and a snippet of Poland to flank the defences. Ukraine needs to build some defences at the Polish border too.
