  • Ukraine is continuing to urge its allies to boost arms supplies after Russia made some advances on the frontline. After months of what appeared to be a stalemate in the war, Ukraine withdrew its troops from the key eastern town of Avdiivka in February. Moscow says it has since taken control of several villages around it. Ukraine is trying to plug its front lines and now has a new approach to mobilize volunteers.

In 2016, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch received several credible allegations of abuse and torture by the regiment.[235] Reports published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) documented looting of civilian homes and unlawful detention and torture of civilians between September 2014 and February 2015 "by Ukrainian armed forces and the Azov regiment in and around Shyrokyne".[236][237]
Another OHCHR report documented an instance of rape and torture, writing: "A man with a mental disability was subject to cruel treatment, rape and other forms of sexual violence by 8 to 10 members of the 'Azov' and the 'Donbas' battalions (both Ukrainian battalions) in August-September 2014. The victim's health subsequently deteriorated and he was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital."[237] A report from January 2015 stated that a Donetsk Republic supporter was detained and tortured with electricity and waterboarding and struck repeatedly on his genitals, which resulted in his confessing to spying for pro-Russian militants.[237]: 20

Even after 2 years, I sense that Ukraine has not fully mobilized for war.
I suggest Ukraine draft people beginning at age 21. Have them undergo a 10-week Basic Combat Training course. Some will claim that 10 weeks is not long enough. Maybe but during WWII, some US Marines received 6 weeks of training before being shipped out.
However, if the Ukrainian people do not fully support the war, they may regret their decision when they come under Russian rule. It will be too late then.
