    Well done! If you keep practicing, you will soon exceed 100 Joule. More importantly, you will be able to hit from longer distances even when using powerful bands. Anyway, thanks for the mega shoutout! I enjoyed our email exchange and I hope that you will be a slingshot fan forever (that stuff is addictive).

    hey just a small tip about penetration. In the common ballistics industry, getting past armor or tough materials isn't about size or weight of the round and bigger does not always mean better. Armor piercing rounds are simply faster than the normal variation of that ammo caliber. If you do want something that can crack bone or penetrate as deep as possible, try using the smaller ammo with the larger bands or adding more bands. Larger ammo will only make the cavity caused by impact to be larger.

    • @TheWesman45
      @TheWesman45 6 часов назад

      Not exactly how penetration works with firearms. Speed, with nothing more, does not equate to armor penetration. You want three things. A pointed projectile,. This is to insure that, on contact with armor, the force is focused on the smallest possible surface area. A fast round. This, as I'm sure you are aware, is to ensure the round passes through with enough force. Lastly, you want the round to have a hardened core. Usually, but not always, this is a hardened steel core. In more exotic rounds this could be tungsten or even depleted uranium.

    Pro tip for when you're new to organic grinding. Draw on your part, the sections you want to remove. And start small. First cut, 5 mm line on the two faces where you have to remove material. Exactly like topography lines. And then you follow those two lines to take out the corner. Once you're done with that around the track, you draw the next ones, and repeat until you have the shape you want. It's... grind by numbers (like paint by numbers).

      I think that David's slingshot wasn't rubber based, it probably was that round n round overhead with ropes instead of the rubbers. Those things have serious potential, I compared it with AK-47s when I was younger, and it gave it serious competition, it easily achieved 240 yards with lethal sizes, but obviously we were doing it just for fun as an afternoon activity, if one were to take it this seriously, I think we would have some serious slingpower.

    Something I know from archery that probably works on this is pointing the slingshot to the sky, pulling the band back and then releasing it when you drop down towards the target. It allows you to use your back muscles to pull back the band easier. (DISCLAIMER: Don't do this if the area you're aiming at has people or someone's property on it.)

    • @MikeShake

      Interesting! Wursthunter (the guy I showed in the intro) uses that technique. I should try it

    • @darylphuah
      @darylphuah 8 дней назад +4

      @@MikeShake you don't need to point up to the sky, its actually discouraged in archery due to the safety issues. You can start with both your hands just above your head, then bring them down to shoulder level. When you do it this way, naturally you'll be using your shoulder muscles.
      Alternatively, if you want to maintain your current method, the only thing you really need to change is thinking of the pulling action as a rotation instead of a pull. When you pull, you naturally use your triceps. Instead focus on the position of your elbow, and rotate it to be in alignment with your shoulders. Your body will then engage the back muscles instead.

This looked scary to me, pulling that sling with bare fingers, had it suddenly detached from fork (or if fork suddenly broke) while stretched, it could make quite a mess. Build a scope so you can aim precisely and a holder for the rubber bands, like add a stopper that puts the rubber band in place without gripping it.

  • @asdfjoe123
    @asdfjoe123 11 дней назад +5

    20:12 not a surprise. You pull the bands off-center with your draw instead of going straight back.

    I'm here for the slingshot part, and the fun part. Keep this up, this is becoming gold. It's "just" enough fun to it to not make the video cheesy.

    I immediately went to work in my mind about how one could make it even better...and I realized that basically every improvement I can think of basically converts it from a slingshot to a ballista or aircraft catapult.

    A a designer/builder/shooter myself, I was just waiting for the first fork hit. Still love the build tho, and I want a starship this large too; only limiting myself to 10-12mm steel for safety and economy, because I often shoot 50 round flights!

    First thing I thought when you chose your materials: Part of what makes polycarb so tough is that it flexes instead of shattering, the acrylic and wood are going to break off it.

    Note: synthetic ballistic gel, is less dense than organic ballistic gel. So you will get deeper penetration on synthetic, and information derived from synthetic can’t really be compared to organic.

    You have to use something called clamping cauls they are like boards that have a slight bow to them so they apply an even pressure across the surface but the way you did it worked good too just thought I'd mention it for anyone. It's more useful for big glue ups
