Totally agree. They are real human beings, no matter who's "side" they're one. Everyone deserves to live the full life we've been granted and no one should have such a great fear to lose it by someone else's hand
In fact, the life of a Russian soldier is worth nothing to a drone operator. Ukrainians capture and leave Russian soldiers alive only to exchange them for their brothers in arms, who were also captured by the Russians. Otherwise, practically none of the captured Russians has the right to continue a quiet life.
Not an enemy a fellow man just trying to live following orders from a man who is hiding away in a bunker...a coward like most government officials making everyone else do the work for them
Enemy soldiers are under the right conditions invaluable. They know locations of ammo dumps, recent placements of soldiers, and can inform you of the equipment, disposition and quality of troops. Basically, they're an intel gold mine.
You're nuts if you're calling this guy a coward. Imagine knowing your country is on the wrong side of a war, a coward would do what they're told regardless. A hero is like him, refusing to do someone else's evil deeds, even if it puts his life at risk. Be kind to those that surrender, they want peace.
Right. Though I'd have a hard time telling him to remove his armor. I get security and all, but once you accept a surrender your responsible for their safety. Good on them for leading him out. Hopefully this is his first step towards immigration

I love that the drone operators had a note to drop prepared, showing their humanity and not simply treating it like a video game. That plus the plan itself for the surrender without revealing their own location.
They didn't have a note at first. The original video (out on reddit and telegram) shows them hovering around with a grenade, but returning to base to attach the note. This guy patently wated for them to return.
Poor guy. So happy the drone pilot helped get him there. So happy he decided to trust him. Happy that they let him surrender. This is heartbreaking to see.
Ukrainian military leadership treats their men as prisoners already. Can't leave, forced to fight for god know what and if you try you are getting tortured and killed. Why would they treat surrendered soldiers from enemy side any better? POW's are used as propaganda parrots and sent back to the fields they were trying to escape, but now they are meat shields on the Ukrainian side. @ahmadfauzi5757 Russia conscripts men from ages 18 to 30. It used to be 27, but it was raised this year. And while usually conscripts aren't brought to battles outside of Russia, with the recent "annexations", this man could very well be in his first year of forced service. And even if that weren't the case, war, and the reality thereof, can change a person. Violence, blood, death. PTSD, depression, fear.

The whole things is a tragedy and Jewlensky needs to be an example for what will happen when a leader sells their people for international war mongers' profit
At the end of the day, we're all just people. Thank goodness the pilot and the soldier had the humility to live another day without death in their lives.
Remember, no men are strange, no countries foreign
Beneath all uniforms, a single body breathes
Like ours: the land our brothers walk upon
Is earth like this, in which we all shall lie.
They, too, aware of sun and air and water,
Are fed by peaceful harvests, by war’s long winter starv’d.
Their hands are ours, and in their lines we read
A labour not different from our own.
Remember they have eyes like ours that wake
Or sleep, and strength that can be won
By love. In every land is common life
That all can recognise and understand.
Let us remember, whenever we are told
To hate our brothers, it is ourselves
That we shall dispossess, betray, condemn.
Remember, we who take arms against each other
It is the human earth that we defile.
Our hells of fire and dust outrage the innocence
Of air that is everywhere our own,
Remember, no men are foreign, and no countries strange.

I think the soldier had enough of this war and just wants to live a normal life. It is sad to see soldiers die because of this. Even if this is their job, I bet the politicians forced these soldiers to go in the battlefield just for their own desires. Soldiers are here to protect a country and take back what belongs to them, not to use them for your own selfish desires and wealth.
He knows that his chances of remaining alive as a surrendered combatant to Ukraine are much higher than being labeled a deserter in Russia.
Дело не в человечеости. А дело в том, чтобы взять его в плен и жестоко пытать, чтобы узнать позиции противников
Both people were so brave in this moment. The pilot took a huge risk, and so did the Russian soldier.

Exactly, just look at the Christmas Truce of World War 1 for a perfect exampleon Christmas Eve Allies could hear Carols being sung from the German side, slowly people start poking their heads up from trenches, and soon, hundreds of troops from both sides were in No Man's Land sharing cigarettes, food, and laughs even though they didn't know each other's language. But this made the higher ups furious, and they put laws up to prevent another incident happening the next Christmas
I firmly disagree, not with what i think you meant by this comment but the comment itself. without the men on the ground the ones giving the orders are useless right or wrong? I understand what you mean tho it is crazy to think how people can sit in a nice protected room while sending their fellow countrymen to die.
