DCS: F-16C Viper - AGM-88C HARM in HAS Mode

- In a future DCS World update, we’ll be adding the High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile, or HARM, for the F-16. This missile homes in on the radar emissions of air defense radars and is an important tool in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses, or SEAD, role.
We will first release it with the HARM As Sensor, or HAS, mode, and later we’ll add the Position (POS) and HAD/HTS modes. For HAS, it uses the sensor in the nose of the missile to detect and track detected radars that are in one of the three threat tables. Once the threat is handed off to the ALIC and the missile is launched, it will fly a directly to the target with no range data. As such, it has more limited range than other modes.

Jarlerus The answer is no you can’t. And this coupled with the LAU88 Mavs will make the Hornet the sister aircraft
@@John-mn1bp Yeah, this system does look more interesting than the Hornet. The Hornet can carry twice as many HARMs though so I wouldn't count her out yet.

I take it that even when you destroy the SAM sight, it will still show on the HSD and the RWR is the only way to know if you got it (of course other than the notification text on the bottom left of your screen)
Imagine if IADS is implemented the SEAD mission would be so much interesting and challenging.

@@MysticSaruman That's awesome to hear! I love flying SEAD/DEAD missions in game, though they can feel a bit sterile at times, especially with how easy the Hornet makes it to ripple 4 HARMs at 4 sites and turn away.

It’s basically the NATO code names of the search radars shortened to just initials. Unless it’s the fire control radar specific then it’s just a digit for the SA-#
@@rzr2ffe325 I know what the RWR designations are for each, but there is a 3 digit numerical code that you put into the ICP that represents each type of threat. That's what I would prefer they add to the default kneeboard
This video implies the Hornet's HARM implementation might be unrealistic.
I thought the exact same thing
It is my understanding the hornet's EW (RWR) system directs the harm what to look for and where. Automatically setting up these tables for you on the fly depending on what it detects, as well as telling it where to search.
This can be wrong though, I figure someone will find out and explain this. Time to check the forums.

Hey, I got a problem with the HARM mode and hope you can help me:
I have activate Air-Ground, selcted the Rocket. Go to Weapon and see the table and so... BUT: My Timer has an amount of 0:49 in Wide and just count down to 0:45. After this, it start again at 0:49 and it count one scan up. Do you have an idea?

I've been having some fun finally attacking SAM sites with the 16. But there seems to be some codes missing. I can't seem to lock on to Hawk systems and ships. Will there be an update for this?

Hey Wags any updated missile effects in the works? These flames are too much for the HARM
soooo can't help noticing there seems to be a lot of additional codes missing Patriot, Hawk, S200, gepard, roland etc will the rest be added as well otherwise it can only engage a limited set of air defence like a 3rd of all the current air defence in the game ?
I would like to know this too. Hawk is especially important since it's operated by Iran.
We will surely need those codes. Many PvP servers use Patriot, Hawk, Roland and Rapier SAMs. And what about maritime threats? We need codes for all of this stuff, too. Let's hope we get a complete list next week.
Put in a comment before seeing yours. We need a code update for sure if we're going to be left with manually picking them up.

Harm in the viper: write PhD, magnum.

@@vrver2802 TGP= Targeting Pod as such he mean the Sniper Targeting pod. We already have the LITENING III
Schweizer Luchs is the sniper targeting pod just the litening III but able to zoom in more? Or are there extra features?

The HARM needs a radiating source to guide on.
If it takes a 1m30s to do a search in the viper, why is the hornet able to do it in near real time? Is it just not simulated on the hornet yet?

@@Alrold This is the same thing as the Hornet's TOO mode, both use the HARM seeker as sensor.

So question, ill have my agm 88 looking for say a sa6 and a 6a I think its what it says will appear on the missile under wide. Ill lock on and get the flashing green to fire and then the missile goes but never makes it to the target. Any fix or something im doing wrong?
Question.. what keybind is TMS forward short called in the controls menu? I put TMS up but it changes my SOI..
What be means by forward short is that he just clicks it once. Its the usual TMS Up bind but he just doesn’t hold the TMS Up button. Sorry if its a little unclear

Probably related to the limited memory in the plane. This Block C is build in 1984, back then you couldn't store much at the same time unless you use swapping like here with tables to the harddisk. It might be also due to the limitation of the HARM seeker head.

Impressive. But now I wonder why the same missile's sensor seems so much more capable in the Hornet. Does it mean that the Hornet's implementation is unrealistic?
Hornet is a ground attack aircraft and always was hence he A in its designation. The 16 was designed as a fighter and modified to also provide air to ground. Its likely due to the 16s systems never originally being designed for air to ground.
@@alphapicturesentertainment In the F16 the computer can take input from ONLY the sensor. In the Hornet it is a combination of RWR and the sensor.
I understand its a difference in how the weapon is integrated into the platform. But definitely a question worth asking!
Im wondering the same thing. Is the Hornet's implementation, as done kn DCS, unrealistic. It just seems soooooo easy compared to this. (tho this will def be fun to learn)
If I understand correctly the F/A-18 has a Harm targeting system built into the airframe. The F-16 needs to mount an external pod on the left chin mount to have full capability. It looks like he does not have the HARM targeting pod equiped

Theoretically IRL it would be better to wait only because if you fire when only Active IRL they might be able to shut down the radar before it hits (idk if in DCS Ace skilled SAMs do that yet) but when they are tracking a missile too you not only does it take longer but also it means if they shut down their missile will miss so its harder for them to do so.
Southern Bear I believe in real life the Harm is programmed to home in on the last known position of the radar if it stops transmuting radar signals. I’ll have to ask around. I have a family member who did a lot of ground side support for HARM testing back in the mid 90s. I’m sure there’s still a lot they can’t comment on though. I used to have a damaged fin from a HARM on my desk when I was in high school
@@southernbear736 In the book Magnum! The Wild Weasels in Desert Storm: The Elimination of Iraq's Air Defence, the appendix III list all the HARM fired during the conflict, target, location, results, ... The number of targets really destroyed is quite low.

At 10:20 I saw that distant puff/explosion and thought "hmm I wonder if that SA15 just shot down that HARM". Perhaps it missed the HARM, and self-detonated?

What are you using to change your camera view in the cockpit?
In the past I used to change the angle of the view form my Trustmaster Warthog, but I don't why now I only able to do that with the mouse and

@@Imperial-GB I have the TrackIR , but it's not always working well, also I have to wear a hat... I just don't understand why I can't change it back to the joystick.
@@anthonyhershko make sure its dark in your room, sometimes light can interfere with the input. As someone who's used a joystick hat to move my head in game I'd never go back to that now i have head tracking. Delan clip just gets attached to your headset via some tape, might sound messy but you can make it really neat and you don't even notice it's there its really lightweight.
If you really need to change it back to the joystick though, unplug trackIR, then in DCS find where the trackIR has control in the controls menu (maybe axis section) and delete them inputs, then in camera section you'll have to map up, down, left, right manually
i still after watching this any many other cant get the harm to actually go soi i press Rctrl+down and i cant get it to go soi even to i press the right key combine. i keep on searching but everyone just keep on saying "just make it soi""you have to make it soi" but i cant and i dont know why

I wonder if Wild Weasel f-16 pilots just have all these AILC tables memorized with codes for threats altogether. Or just muscle memory. Or kneepad and pencil.
Why did he wait until missile went to tracking to fire the HARM? can't shoot it in active mode??? and what about range data so we know the missile can make it there?
Simply to show the symbology change-over, you can certainly launch on an emmitter in Active mode too. There is no range data in this mode. Thanks.

Where is the jamming pods? The F-16’s that are assigned to Sead usually have the jamming pods and multiple harms as well as air to air and a targeting pod. That’s why the F16 is so effective. You would bring more than 2 harms into a fight. Especially if going against the S300 or S400.

Its more beneficial to have the fuel tanks
@@pjefferson2011 yeah but they let the hog carry 6x Mavs even though doing so will damage the structure on the wing where the gears are at. They let the 18 carry 10x 120 which they would never do due to how disadvantaged the jet would become due to drag.
I believe the USAF F-16 that is modeled on DCS doesn't carry 4 HARMS
