    Just got my first TIG welder for my shop. 59 years old and still learning new skills. Appreciate you showing me how to set up my torch.

    When I put my collet in the backside it just slides all the way in like a hotdog in a hallway. It doesn't interact with the back cap at all. Best video I've seen on this so far though. Thanks.

    all sweet and dandy using the CK torches, BUT...what about the Miller torches ? like the OLD Torch Miller 150 CE-M and the compatibilities with the Furick cups and collets, heat insulators, gas lenses EtC .... a video explaining them will be appreciated. cheers man.

    Nice video 👊 another thing for everyone asking which tungsten is best weldporn has a multi pack with I think 5 different kinds 2 of each. Figure that might help people that are starting out or queries which tungsten to get or want to try a couple different types out thanks for the good video

    I find the torch heats up faster with a stubby gas lens kit installed, I do mostly welding with the standard cups. If I need a short setup I'll change it over to the stubby lens and put the standard cup back on afterwards.

    Can anyone describe the combination for electrode Needed for 1.6mm thickness compared to Collet thickness 2 ? My tungsten electrode won’t tighten up. Do I need 2.4 tungsten to fit into a collet number 2

  • @StefanBacon

    This is all well and good, but if my back cap is coarse thread, does that mean it's probably a #9 torch? I watched this 3 times trying to figure out what I have because it's not labelled and everything extra I have on hand is fine thread, but I figure I should replace the torch anyway with something that takes more common consumables.

    Justin, thank you for your great fabrication videos. Currently I am welding 6061 aluminum. I need to get into a tight spot with 3/4" to 1" stick out with the tungsten. What parts do I need for my 17 series torch to accomplish this? Thank you, Phil

    • @TheFabricatorSeries
      @TheFabricatorSeries  6 лет назад +1

      Instead of trying to stick the tungsten out that far and risking losing coverage, look for a "long cup" with a small orifice.

    • @maylockin
      @maylockin 6 лет назад

      It's a tight area and I can't fit a long cup in there. I tried practicing on scrap 6061 using a gas lens with a number 8 cup with the 17 series torch with 1/2" stick-out, but all I was getting was a shitty ass weld. I even raised the argon up to 20cfh still a lot of soot and pepper in the puddle, and shitty weld. I am beginning to think that welding on aluminum it's not possible to use a long stick out...

    • @TheFabricatorSeries
      @TheFabricatorSeries  6 лет назад

      maylockin If I had another solution I'd offer it up. You could try to build a dam or something on the back of it or even point a purge hose at it with a bunch of stickout, but it's probably going to give you fits.

    Ck worldwide trimline 26 is a great torch also if you wanna stick with air cooled same size as the 17 but can go up to 200 amps the cable is a 26 cable though

    • @weldingjunkie
      @weldingjunkie 6 лет назад

      17 air cooled is my favorite and 20 Water cooled. I like that I can share the same cable with 17 and 9. I want to try one of those heads for tubing

    • @ChrisWojnarski
      @ChrisWojnarski 6 лет назад

      Welding Junkie yea I love the 20 now only think I don’t like is I have a everlast water cooler and it is pretty loud. My second favorite is the 26 trimline

    • @weldingjunkie
      @weldingjunkie 6 лет назад

      Chris Wojnarski I know the feeling my HTP water cooler is loud too however my miller Coolmate 1.3 is really quiet

    • @ChrisWojnarski
      @ChrisWojnarski 6 лет назад +1

      Welding Junkie I almost got a miller too but used on eBay for around same price as everlast new . Good thing though I got 2 new water coolers out of it the first one they sent was damaged only the red quick connect fitting was damaged there like 10 bucks online so that was a plus

    • @weldingjunkie
      @weldingjunkie 6 лет назад

      Chris Wojnarski you really can’t beat the everlast and HTP coolers just drives me nuts it always runs. Both mine turn on and off with machine but only my miller turns off if you stop welding for 45sec. You sell the other one?

      shelbydog1100 you can put a trigger on any torch but there are the one that have the switches in the torch. They are wired to the machine.

    Justin, do you have problems with the collet not tightening on the tungsten after awhile?

    • @TheFabricatorSeries
      @TheFabricatorSeries  6 лет назад +1

      Yes. They get worn out the more you use them. Try switching to a CK Worldwide wedge collet.

    What exactly is stubby about a ‘stubby’ torch?
    As a newbie to tig they look fairly identical to me. This wasn’t covered in your previous torch video that I can recall.

    • @maylockin
      @maylockin 6 лет назад +1

      Basically you can use 9 series cup and collects on 17 style torch when using the special stubby gas lens for the 17 torch. It will all make sense when you purchase a stubby set up for a 17 torch. But take a close look at the stubby gas lens compared to a standard gas lens for a 17 torch, that along with the insulator is how they make a stubby 17 torch. Hope that helps
