The second set of number goes down. But the number on the cup stay at I think #9. And then their is the "## I.D." associated with the "##N##" if you could explain any of this and how it effects your electrode size or choice of gas lens size or collet body and maybe manipulation applications if their are any.

    Hi, I am new to tig welding and of course I have thousands of questions... my first one...
    Can I use a # 17 torch(Or any other air cooled torch) on my Lincoln precision tig 275 without using the water cooler?
    #2.- If I use the # 17 torch(The only one I have at the moment) is it just plug and play? I mean just connect the gas hose into the proper port? Or what makes the torch actually work? Is it just pressing the pedal what creates the arc?
    Sorry, I know these are pretty silly questions but like I stated before this is gonna be my first try on the tig world, even though I've been welding for some years now, all of it its been stick and mig; any help???????
    Thanks a lot in advance.

      The torch is what EVERYONE outside of America uses, press the button and it should initate the arc and the gas flow.
      Your welding machine should be set up for 3 seconds of post-flow argon, after you release the switch.

    yes, the argon does cool the torch. if it does not, then it will be arrested. :) due to gas laws. if a gas is allowed to expand, it becomes colder. the argon is under 2 or 3 _thousand_ psi in the cylinder. it exits the torch at 14.7 psi(ambient) . to decrease in pressure it must have expanded. it is therefore colder now than when it was in the cylinder. the cylinder is room temperature so the gas now must be colder than room temperature.

    • @dcgo44r
      @dcgo44r 5 лет назад +3

      Yes! but that's not the reason (main) it is used! Engineers figured that out (dual purpose) that there was not need for using different design to fit a cooling system as far as certain amperage wouldn't be reached thus rising in temperature... Limiting capabilities, but should be OK for certain applications! What I'm trying to say is those torches should be called "shielding gas cooled" ;) if you guess what I'm coming from! Lol!

    • @christopherely4364
      @christopherely4364 5 лет назад +2

      You're halfway there. The expansion of the gas cools the gas, not the torch. The gas cools the torch simply because it is colder than the torch, and they are in contact with each other.

    • @christopherely4364
      @christopherely4364 5 лет назад

      @freezeme360 Expansion isn't necessary for cooling to occur. It's not the same.

    I see in this episode you covered the torches that are used less and less in the USA, we in Europe use more torches with start stop with 2 and 4 stages, the switch on the torch, most of them also have a wheel for setting the aperage on the torches, if you have time, can you comment on them , because I personally find them much easier to use than working with a pedal

    My TIG machine is capable of 200 amps. I want another torch to use a 1/16th tungsten for thin stuff. Must my torch be rated for 200 amps, or can I use a 150 amp torch, but never set it above the 150. I don't feel comfortable with the ladder. Also, regarding air cooled it seems like the attachment part to the hose is universal. I have a 26 torch on there now that came with the welder. If I want a #9 with that just screw on? Could I just put a collet and body for a 1/16th tungsten into my 26 body and weld with that?

    After 40 years of welding, I'm finally stepping up to the one I haven't done...
    Just ordered a CK17 flex with the valve. Being cheap, by cheap I mean scratch starting...
    Reason, I can run it on my service trucks Ranger8 and I can hook it up to the old buzz box (gives me a reason to keep the old paid for machines 😎
    I really don't know what brand is best, I do know what brands I won't consider.......
    CK is one that seems to be used in a lot of videos and has a good reputation!!
    I also considered Lincoln, but price and speed of receiving had an influence... LoL...
    You said learn on a rigid, but I only plan on buying ONE..... If my daughters choose to learn TIG, then maybe we will spend the money on HF Water-cooled....
    But for now, scratch😎

    I used to work for Acklands Grainger as welding tech support, the argon only is air cooled torch, for higher amperages and higher duty cycles you need the water cooled torch, I used to weld with air cooled models up to about 130 amps no probs 100 percent duty cycle, no real issues with the right size torch like wp-17 or so, but when you have to be at around 150 or more 100 percent duty, get the water cooler. We used to do a lot of tungsten carbide overlay of oilfield screens for Suncor and such, and lots of fine tuning the robotic overlay of same hardfacing material.

    I had a question as to whats the difference between CK's standard TIG series and the equivalent model Master series torches? In CK's catalog it doesn't really explain how they differ from each other. I guess what I'm wondering, is it worth the price difference between a ck9 fx vs a ck 130 fx; or say a ck 17 fx vs a ck 150 fx? The specs between the two seem identical, except that the master series is rated for 5 amps more. What makes it a Master? Thanks for all the vids!

    Wonderful explanation. Okay, here is the $64,000 question, Who came up with, or from where did they come from, the number designations?

    Hey there! I'm about to buy a special made CK FL130V Flex-Loc for my welder. Due to the pricing I'd like to ask: Do they last? And how long? What not to do with them? What to do with them so they last?
    Thank You!

    How do you set up a miller maxstar 200dx? I can't change my amperage. Also, what cup do I need to use for fuse welding stainless 18-22 GA. Material? Thank you

    Do you ever TIG just plain steel. I've only used the MIG and stick on my welder because (until your video I never knew how to hook up the TIG or what the knobs did.). I had to cut out framing around my transmission tunnel to allow for a larger tranny and It's very hard to clean the floor pan in some areas. I want the welds to be better because my life depends on it. I made 1/2" by 1" box by welding 2 ea. 1/2 box steel tubing to save space. I'm building rotisserie to help angles. Thank you for the videos.

    How the heck did I get to watch this video.....I just bought a spot welder and was browsing the spot welding vids......not that I'm not interested in Tig welding, I already have a plasma welder and a few months back I bought a small 250 amp hobby welder to ......."try and do scratch start Tig welding" for those small fussy jobs that you want to have the surgeons scalpel approach rather than the butchers chopping block and cleaver one.....sigh...... now I have to get a gas bottle, regulator flow meter and a tig torch etc.........thanks for the heads up on the variety of torches .........just bought a 17 model fixed head with a valve.......BTW, I have done Tig welding as I had a full welding outfit but sold it all when I changed over to the plasma welder.

    Hi. Thanks for the great videoclip. My son gave me a Rossi WSM200amp tig welder for Father's Day. No pedal and have trouble holding down the trigger. Is there any way or tips in using the trigger in a different way? Thanks

    Hey Justin awesome video for beginners and pros alike. The only thing really made me cringe is when you started bending the brand new torches like a 12 year old playing with his pecker. If your a hobbyist you can get away with it a for a while. But remember when you're bending them the copper coils in the head work hardens if it's not heated. If you're a pro welding 10-12 hours a day and want your torches to last you should always strike an arc and get the torch heated before severely bending them. I've learned this from years tig welding in the biopharmaceutical industry and from the torch manufacturers. Other than that awesome videos keep em coming! There just isn't anyone on RUclips putting out the useful content like you are thank you, JRZ

    I sold CK for 23 years. Good torches. But. They started importing most of their stuff from China about 10 years ago. I now sell the only American made torches WeldTec

    Great video! Only one thing missing. Assembly / consumables on the pencil torch. How do you tighten the collet and back cap on the tungsten so it won't fall out?

    • @hxhdfjifzirstc894

      I don't think there's a back cap, because the tungsten would go into the body of the torch. You would then just tighten the collet from the tip end and put the gas cup back on.
