This is the best welding channel. So little advertisment although he has a store. And for once someone who is actually a beast in welding, not just welding shopowner!
I have a bic lighter that won't weld much. But it was an upgrade from the old matches. Sir, you helped me understand so much it makes me want to learn more about this "welding ".thank you! I am a wood worker.
You are so great. All of your videos help me dive deeper and deeper into understanding welding. I am a pipe welder at Electric Boat, just started in February. I have come a long way in my technique as well as knowledge of welding from your videos. With such intensive procedures and quality necessary at my work, I need your kind of detailed information and knowledge to get a better understanding of the art. You hit important components of tig welding that are simply not taught in school, and you help give me advice and understanding to build enough confidence to challenge myself and step up and try new pieces, metals, joints, despite the risk of getting a bad record for rejected pieces by melthrough, lack of penetration, etc. You are very knowledgeable and I look up to you as a guide to strive to be the best welder I can be. Thank you!
very passionate man when it comes to welding, really appreciate your videos Jodey, Welder in training here, just got on 2G TIG last night, going to try an test out combo as soon as i can weld stainless, down here on the gulf coast in the refineries/chemical plants, keep the videos coming thanks
You are very good explaining everything. I don’t get board watching your videos and I can understand more because you explain things more thoroughly . Thank you.
May I you commend you for providing a very professional lecture and detailed demonstration on TIG torch welding techniques. I'm a retired old time welder and structural engineering technician, having started back in the mid 60's. These welding videos bring back memories of having completed jobs that left one with a feeling of satisfaction, having accomplished something of value with one's own hands and skills.
I could not have explained my feelings any better. I'm not a professional but I love the process of welding and what comes out of it. I honestly can say that I got hooked on welding from watching Jody's videos and was giddy when I bought my Everlast welder.
Thanks Jody. Knowing the correct TIG torch to use has always kind of baffled me. To me your experience parallels my welding history. Weld school (Tulsa), boilermakers, pipe-fitters, then aircraft industry. Now that I'm retired I can upgrade my "weldshop" and just have fun. Your website and vids are fantastic, thanks for all the hard work you put into it.
I purchased a miller cc st 280 and a Lincoln 210 Mp I like the way you share your knowledge to people like me I can't afford school thank you very much from Guatemala I'm planing to teach to extremely poor people engish and welding
Plz carry CK Worldwide's 17 aircooled version of the flexloc!! By the way I purchased a tig finger from you about 6 months ago specifically for the weld test they give where I work now... It, in my mind/opinion, is a must have for a welder in their toolboxes! The test the give is I believe the same as the UA-31b maybe... It's a 6G 3 inch schedule 40 aluminum pipe/tubing with a consumable insert and the 3 different supervisors stand there with u and watch you lay down every single pass...They couldn't believe how steady my hands were, how uniform/even and nice looking my beads were because all they've seen is ppl freehanding it and fail quite often, but I owe it to you for putting out an awesome product that can help ppl such as myself improve their skill and to help attain great paying jobs!! And when it comes down to test time it's time to show them what you've got and ur is a big part of where my skill level is today!! Thanks from Tennessee!!
Just picked up a Everlast PowerTig 200DX as my first TIG welder. Your information was timely as this unit has a plug for a water cooler, it came from the factory with an air cooled torch. I'll upgrade as my skill set improves. So far I've done TIG brazing of dissimilar metal, some 4140, and mild steel work with it. I have to give you much of the credit for what I've learned about TIG. Thanks Jody.
Jody In previous videos I watched you use a CK #9 flex head and a CK#20 (water cooled) swivel head - got so impressed I purchased 2 of them for my welders (I sold the Miller 180 Sycro and the Miller 200 Synco and replaced them with a full bundle 200DX including wireless foot control) I have also use the CK #9 for setup and tweaking and then when getting down to just pushing weld I use the CK #20 and will weld at 120/160 amps till my fingers melt (even with a tig finger - takes a long time). The welders I sold went with a miller cooler and the swivel head torches - I have stayed in touch with the people that purchased the ones I sold and they just love the torches and your recommendations and both of them have subscribed to you. Also gave the each 2 tig fingers to make sure they can do a great job Can't get better than that thx Awful Arthur
I changed my primeweld Tig-225x from the CK 17 to a air cooled flex loc I used it for about 3 months and I found it was getting hot on me and having to lay down for awhile. I broke down and got the max cool 3000 water cooler for the tig-225x put it together with the flex loc 230 my welding time has increased ten folds over it's impressing how a water cooler can do so much and extend your welding time. and I also swear that it increased my duty cycle on my welder too I've never overheated my machine yet or hit duty cycle yet.
With something that thick(4130) I was trained to preheat the part..gorgeous welds by the way..we just received 3 Miller dynasty 280 with coolers. Mine was plumbed into a central chiller..major pain which is why we bought the coolers. Oh yeah we also bought an air cooled Lincoln portable 110/220 tig which was mounted on a plant tricycle with two argon bottles..the extra bottle was for purging. Very handy unit for welding on Common nozzle assemblies.
All thumbs up!!! Always learn and smile a lot while watching Jody. Quick and gets to the point. A wealth of great advice, tips and context for whatever you're welding
jody u r the man. i wish i could work with u i would learn a gell of alot. am 33 years old and just started welding, i have the MIG down to a T but TIG is an artform in its self. keep the vids coming love it. regards dan, salford, england UK
Man oh man, your welding skills just blow me away! Those welds looked like they were done by a computerized machine only better...I guess that comes with lots of practice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
My UniMig ACDC200 came with the big assed 26 that you showed at 18:15. It is SO heavy on the hoses and quite a pain to use. I am looking to get a new torch for lighter work and this video was fantastic.
What amazes me most about your welds is the amazing consistency of the final product. I like to think my welds are almost as strong, but even with bracing and practice I rarely get such a consistent bead.
I'm a welding student I gotta thank you for all your vids I wanted to mention a good tig practice is using a socket wrench to walk the cup and get the motions right although I'm still having some trouble with my root pass 6g
This is exactly the video/information I was looking for. I have a Everlast PowerPro 236 which came with #26 torch and i've been looking for a smaller torch but had no idea how the numbering system worked. I think I'll be going for a CK#9 (or maybe that Weldtec Stubby Torch) after watching this as I'm not welding anything too thick and no long runs.
Don't feel bad about getting confused with the numbering. When I first got my Everlast welder I was in the same boat. Going with the CK torches is a good idea if it is within your budget. They make welding much more comfortable.
I bought the CK17-12-rsfsx. I might have screwed up that model but close to that letter combo. Love the CK light gas hose set ups. All made in America also. (Quality). Will be buying my CK stuff here since your a distributor. Awesome info
Hello, thank you for the detailed explanation. I could watch these videos for hours. I myself have been looking for a CK worldwide flex loc 150 for years. Unfortunately, they are outrageously expensive in Europe. Greetings from Austria / Schwechat
Good video. I have been Tig welding since 1979 but always learn something. I mostly weld 4130 aircraft weldments. My favorite torch is the water cooled weldcraft 20. I got over 20 years out of a Linde HW 20, I consider that pretty good since I used house water for about ten of those years. Current machine is a Miller syncrowave 351 but I really want a Dynasty 200 dx after trying one at a trade show. Thanks for the great videos. Kevin
Holy smoke; so much to know, to learn - thank goodness for videos such as yours. I am totally new to tig welding, deciding to go tig rather than oxy for mostly brazing purposes, of which I have had nothing but problems: much smoke, spatter and the blowing of holes in 3 mm mild steel plate, as I have tried and failed time and time again to bronze fill cutouts of a metal sculpture I have been working on for some time now. I have up and down the amps, paid particular attention to ridding the metal of surface impurities, cut the argon flow just to see if it would make a difference, but all my efforts have been in vain. My machine is a UNI-MIG WELDING ARC 170 DC INVERTER AIR COOLED using pure ARGON, so if you or any of your subscribers/viewers have any hints and tips it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, your welds are nothing short of works of art. Just an observation, dear sir, but true nonetheless. Best wishes.
sir thank you!I I IM 43 BEEN WELDING SINE 94, MY FATHER HAD HIS OWM BUSINESS! WE WELDER EVERYTHING ,FROM30,00GL.TANKS TO STAINLESS MANIFOLDS.ONLY THING ALLY NO ALUMINUM.I ONLY SAW IT 2,all those years.I'm very good with stick, excellent at tig .love your kids man!!!
I really like when you give general summations like "This is the type/size/number I use for most jobs." For instance, the gas lens, torch size, tungsten size etc. It gives me a good reference point to use all the addt'l details with. Also, brilliant move in becoming a product distributor. You've built such a bulletproof reputation that if you say something works better than what I'm using, I'm gonna believe you. High time you started making a few bucks on that :) Just don't abuse the trust please. Best wishes & thx for the videos.
Nice video, Judy. You asked about torches and welders we are using. I have water-cooled CK flex-loc 230 amp torch with a #7 gas lens and a 10 year old Lincoln Precision Tig 225. If I can find the money I just might get an Inverter, but I had a bad experience a cheap Everlast a few years ago so I will probably look for a used Dynasty.
Now I can see why This Old Tony keeps bringing you up in his videos..... You got some seriously impressive skill there w/ that weird walk you was doing on the steel in the beginning.
Well presented information. All the classes I've taken and jobs worked have been with a 20 style water cooled. Want to see more of the weld tech I like that the whole head comes off like that.
An excellent presentation Jody, you answered a number of questions I didn't even know that I had. When eventually I can afford to set a TIG machine beside my stick welder I am sure I will have a much better idea now as to what features and capabilities will best suit my TIG needs.
Jody - I really appreciate your explanations of the various torches - certainly clears up most of my questions. I have a couple that I did not explicitly hear an answer to:1) Can you use a water cooled torch without water? ie, can you use a #20 but without water - but use as a #9 rating? 2) Can one use tap water to supply the torch (with appropriate adaptation) and have the discharge go down the drain? (rather than circulate - or is it required to have ice-cold water?) Thanks again for your clear, information-packed and enjoyable videos.BestHugh
Hi Jody, I've got a Weldcraft CS310, now that Miller owns the brand it's named W-310, good torch pretty flexible for a 310 A. torch. rarely use it past 175-200 A. Never feel the heat. Like the small lenses cup for tight spots. Sometimes I feel it's a little bulky for smaller jobs. But used on a 350 A. machine I don't worry about burning it off. Keep on the excellent teaching and going into details, every time I tune in your channel I've learned something new. Take care, Pierre
I'm looking forward to using the water cooled torch that came with my everlast welder. It was a pleasant surprise to find it in the box with the welder. I really wasn't expecting it.
Nice video. I have a kemppy inverter 220 with wc 20 style torch. Also bought the ck flex loc with the super flex hoses... red and blue . Its ausome but i found that with the help of the tig finger a simple nuber 20 tourch could do almost every thing i need. I take the ck out every 2_3 months. Looking forward for the most needed tig cups review. Thanks from israel. Eran
ck top torches, I like the ck 20 flex with the super flex hoses , use it with a dx 200 and coolmate 1 supper set up have the euro stye butterfly handle wich makes it a bit chunky but need a switch for clambering around stuff
Love your videos! I watch all of them. I had to go out and buy a water cooled #20 CK flex-lock torch about a year ago after seeing the video on that. Useing a #7 cup and stubby gas lense. My welder is an old Miller Sycrowave 350LX from the late 1990's I picked up used for a song. I am currently biulding a custom motorcycle out of all stainess steel. I have pretty much learned to TIG weld from watching your videos! Thanks Jody!
Jody I have to ask about the way you hold a torch. you hold it like you are holding a hammer most of the time. sometimes you hold it like a pencil. is there a science to the way a torch should be held or is it just a matter of comfort and how to get in where you can fit in??? thanks, great video
Great informational video as always I’m curious how the rv antifreeze is working and any one else is using this stuff. It’s close to 40 bucks for actual tig coolant and here at our local Walmart in the spring time rv antifreeze is 1 dollar a gallon so if it works this would be a no brainer lol. Can anyone get back to me with any info or experience they’ve had with RV antifreeze in a TIG cooler Thank you Jody for all your videos great stuff
"Water cooled machines" Some of those old time TIG machines, like 330's, passed the water through the machine with solenoids and the whole deal. Great videos. S/F....Ken M
Great job!!! It is really hard to locate all the variants out there, and yes, I know there is many more options out there, but this one really helps out allot, Thank you
I'm really looking forward to getting the water cooled torch that comes with my Everlast TIG welder. I'm getting tired of using bulky air cooled torches.
Love your videos, You said I one can hook a water cooled torch to any welder? What about a Eastwood Digital tig 200. Love the welder but long runs on heavy aluminum and I will fry my 17 that comes with a 200 amp unit. Would love to hook a water cooled of the same size. What torch and how would I hook the lines? its gas cooled style torch?
weldingtipsandtricks Hello I have been watching all of your videos and am a big fan. I have a Lincoln Square wave Tig 175 and was doing a small repair job on a steel bracket this weekend for a friend. I was having issues with the torch lighting. It kept wanting to light from up inside the torch from the gas lens. Torch is a Lincoln PTA-17. I ground and tried new tungsten, double checked my ground, cleaned my piece and to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hey Jody, I recently bought your Tig pro consumable kit. I really am liking it. So this may sound crazy but I am using a weldcote auto darking hood $145.00. But when I use ceramic gas cups or any gas cups I get arc flash. I take the gas cup off and go to the regular long cups I get no arc flash with hours of welding. Same exact material and amps I took my hood back to my weld supplier because I thought it was the hood. Came home fired up welder exact same thing with brand new hood. Do I need a better helmet. What do you recommend!?
Hey chase not sure if you fixed your problem but was reading thro and saw this. If you adjust the sensitivity and delay on your hood. It will help with this. And move your head so you can see the arc more it should help
What are your thoughts on the two different styles of gas lens that CK has? That is, one of them has the collet body and mesh as one solid piece as you showed, whereas the other type has the mesh as a separate piece that screws onto the collet body. The separate mesh system also uses push-on cups whereas the regular gas lens uses the regular screw on cups. The replaceable mesh in theory should be cheaper to start out with since spatter can foul a mesh instantly and you ruin the benefit of the laminar flow. A long cup might give you better protection from that by keeping the mesh further back from the arc. If you foul the mesh on a gas lens, you have to replace the whole gas lens collet body which is more expensive. Thoughts?
hey Jody I'm in welding school and you helped me out a bunch thanks. I would like to know where can I buy ghetto weld craft stubby torch been all over the net and can't find one and I really need one thanks
I have a WP17 and WP26 (actually ESAB branded.) I love the 17. The 26 cable is massive and stiff. So, I avoid the 26 unless I need it. You might mention the difference in cable size and weight in the next vid.
There are a few videos out there that go over various tig torches, size and amperage capability. I know everlast has one on their site and there are a few others you should be able to find with a quick search.
Personally I stick to using a big touch start 26 with a valve on it for everything. Does everything it needs to do and maybe smaller torches are comfortable true but I can make large and small sound as a pound welds with mine.
Thank you for another great video. I was wondering if you could help me I am looking for a tig welder. I have done much in the automotive trade due to health issues but have been doing better and looking to get some work done on some of my projects. I will be doing car and truck repair and mods mainly with a few other projects mixed in.I have about $2500 to spend I know their are a lot of cheap welders I could buy but I would sooner spend a little more and get one that will last and do anything I may want to do. And anything besides consumables that I should look to also buy.
Hi I started off with a cheap hf DC machine 200amp, I wasn’t happy with the results so decided I need to upgrade to an A/C D/C 200amp machine with all the whistles and bells, I’m now able to produce what I would consider to be reasonable welds, but one thing I’ve wondered for a while and I’m probably going to get shot down for this, why is it not possible to lay a length of filler rod into the weld and weld over it, just asking 👴🏻
very good videos. I do not understand English very well but still I learned a lot. is difficult to find good videos on welding Spanish. and hopefully one day make videos in Spanish and it would be very useful for Spanish speakers. greetings from mexico.
Jody, I just bought an old Lincoln idealarc tig 250 and a Lincoln 300, the machines came without torch, hose, and water cooler. Can you give me some advice on where I could get some torches and hoses for them?
Jody I have an Everlast power pro 256s that comes with a 17 style water cooled torch witch is to bulky and heavy, so I bought a CK-9 flex witch is great to 125 amps. But for heaver welding I use the 17 with a home made water cooler from a jug and a RV 12volt water pump and power supply that works pretty well for the work I do ( not all day ). I was thinking of a ck flex loc in a 21 style, I was wondering what you think, please let me know. Love all you videos and of course you Tig fingers .
Hey jody I run a new arc RT2000 and I have only used it for stick and thinking about see how it runs on tig and never brought a new tig torch and I like button (H.F) start and just wondered what u would recommend?? (My name is Tommy)
Jody, Great review. Can you show changing two water cooled torches, meaning removing one torch form the cooler and putting another torch to the cooler. What are the things to consider and why? Thanks a lot.
I bought a miller demention 400 I have a mig and arc setup for it I would like to learn tig welding but don't know what tig torch setup to start with I don't plan on using it much so a water cooled is not necessary.
This is hands down the best, clearest, and comprehensive instructional video on TIG torches out there. Outstanding
This is the best welding channel. So little advertisment although he has a store. And for once someone who is actually a beast in welding, not just welding shopowner!
Thank you Weld Master Joda... Tig, Stick, Mig, Blow torch. This Kat does it all !!!

Great job of explanation you are doing. Watched lots of your videos when I was studying welding at trade school.
I like the trim line and the roto head. And once i get a bit better at tig i will hafta decide on wich one to outfit my everlast mts 221sti with.

Awesome Video! very informative.. my 3favs were the number CK20 Wcooled, weld tech stubby, and the air cooled number 9
Love all your videos Jody. Thanks so much. You have taught this old dog some new tricks!
One of your best videos to date! Thank you for some much needed information!!
Thanks Jody, all those tips really help a lot.
Hi Jody,
I've got a Weldcraft CS310, now that Miller owns the brand it's named W-310, good torch pretty flexible for a 310 A. torch.
rarely use it past 175-200 A.
Take care,
Pierre
By FAR the best Tig man out there!!! THANK YOU!
Chris Meyer Mr. Tig who? Never heard of her lol
I'm looking forward to using the water cooled torch that came with my everlast welder. It was a pleasant surprise to find it in the box with the welder. I really wasn't expecting it.
Hello, I am wondering what tig welding machine is best for its value?
Awesome video to provide perspective on TIG torches. Do you have a video talking about TIG torch cups? I can't seem to find any. Thanks!
Eran
This may be my favorite video, so, so much good information! Many thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
ck top torches, I like the ck 20 flex with the super flex hoses , use it with a dx 200 and coolmate 1 supper set up
have the euro stye butterfly handle wich makes it a bit chunky but need a switch for clambering around stuff
Your welds are bloody amazing.
Really great video that answered so many questions. Thank you very much. Definitely buying stuff off your website this week. Michael
mig-tig & stick welding each have their unique skill sets. so that means alot of practice in each... the more torch time the better..
Jody I use a CK FL150 and a CK TL210 on a Dynasty 200DX.
can you post a video about what cup i should use for what situation?
thank you.
Jody I have to ask about the way you hold a torch. you hold it like you are holding a hammer most of the time. sometimes you hold it like a pencil.
is there a science to the way a torch should be held or is it just a matter of comfort and how to get in where you can fit in???
thanks, great video
Great informational video as always
I’m curious how the rv antifreeze is working and any one else is using this stuff. It’s close to 40 bucks for actual tig coolant and here at our local Walmart in the spring time rv antifreeze is 1 dollar a gallon so if it works this would be a no brainer lol. Can anyone get back to me with any info or experience they’ve had with RV antifreeze in a TIG cooler
Thank you Jody for all your videos great stuff
"Water cooled machines" Some of those old time TIG machines, like 330's, passed the water through the machine with solenoids and the whole deal. Great videos. S/F....Ken M
What would be a good setup for a beginner? Rig machine and what not.. thanks Jody!!
Now that I know you have a store I will be buying all my torches from you in the future; I have a Dynasty 200DX
Great video brother. I like the longer videos, more learning is better than less!!
I'm sold on getting a water cooled torch for my everlast tig welder. I like the fact the torch is smaller.
loving the look of that weld-tech stubby torch Jody
Sensational! - just no other appropriate word for it - now I finally understand
i think im gona start back up with the stubby 17 sounds like what i need thanks for all the info.
Thanks for the awesome vid! would LOVE to see the micro in action! Could come in very handy...
weldingtipsandtricks Hello I have been watching all of your videos and am a big fan.
Tremendous films, I really appreciate your time and all the great information. Just subbed. Thanks
And anything besides consumables that I should look to also buy.
good info from the man who's used them all, thx!
Do you have any experience with Kemppi torches?
very good videos. I do not understand English very well but still I learned a lot. is difficult to find good videos on welding Spanish. and hopefully one day make videos in Spanish and it would be very useful for Spanish speakers. greetings from mexico.
the 17 that you show with the red flex cable. I have an everlast 140st and need a new 17 torch
Jody, I just bought an old Lincoln idealarc tig 250 and a Lincoln 300, the machines came without torch, hose, and water cooler. Can you give me some advice on where I could get some torches and hoses for them?
Jody, I have Miller 250 syncrowave, with a a/c torch,, I would like a water cooled torch, !your thoughts?,, Merry Christmas !,, Love my Tig finger!
Do you need to change entire cable when switching out torches or can you just change the torch.
I have a Lincoln precision tig 185. What do you recommend?
Always an excellent presentation!
Thanks, Jodi! rc
everlast 250ex it came with a 26 air cooled. I would like the 17 150 amp. thank jody
Can you please recommend a tig gun to plug into a miller 300p diesel welder?
Is there a chart for the makers of the torches, the cups, and any other adapters for the machine?
I just started welding with a syncrowave 300 the size of a small refrigerator with a water cooler. No peddle just learning the old fashion way.
