Thank you for all of the easy to listen to information, and normal human interperations. This sort of info helps when I hire fabricators to be sure that the work they do is appropriate before the work is completed and I notice a problem after the fact. Keep up the great work.

As a 25 year welder and The "GO TO" guy at work to weld anything, you are spot on. I had to learn all that you said through experience 20 years ago. I use helium at times (only ever on poured aluminum castings) and the sole purpose is as you said being skilled and it is used for that and that alone. Helium mix burns out poured aluminum castings impurities a lot better than 100% argon. Keep up your teachings as it only betters people to learn the proper way.
Justin! I'm NOT a welder, not in "the business" at all...just a 49 year old hobbiest trying to learn a brand new skill that is exponentially a thousand times harder than I ever thought it could be!!! First I need to say MUCH respect to you for your incredible skill at not only actually welding, but for your incredible skill as a TEACHER!!!! I have learned more from your videos and simple, no bullsh*t method of "telling it like it is" (this video being case and point!!), than I ever thought I could, aside from enrolling in a welding school. I'm turning 50 in January 2020, and the only gift I've asked my wife and kids for, is for them to send me to Vegas for a few days to be taught, hands on in person by you.... here's hoping they listen to the request. Never welded before. Just bought the new Miller ac/dc. Fascinated with tig welding. Trying something new at 68. Love your video. Watched a lot of other channels you by far are the best in explaining the process.
Dean tig is easy esp if you have HF, the scratch start could be a bitch but learned in 30 minutes of practice. If you are comfortable you will make a better-looking weld, get a chair with wheels, you also need to rest your welding hand on some sort of guide, roller, sliding wood or steel to avoid the shaking weld or minimize it. Last thing a foot pedal is a must. You got this go for it have fun.
@@carmo9693 yes, but high frequency start is bad for implants. Some welders get away with it, then it's lights out. Like welding in the rain. Not a good idea
Man, this is invaluable information. These tips would be so hard to come by without going to a school or knowing someone who is a master welder. Thank you justin for all the information. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
No nonsense and no monotone marathon. Certainly, the easiest person to watch and listen to when researching welding. Thank You for the clear direct information. ( Also, I appreciate your natural, masculine , "All American" good looks.... and handsome demeanor). Keep up the good work. Sincerely!
Thank you for these first class tutorials. These are exactly what I was looking for - no nonsense, practical advice for the beginner, that cut out the mystery and home in on the critical elements. Can't wait to get back to the shop tomorrow and start practicing. I'm working through all your fundamentals videos. Great stuff.
Your advice on sticking with standard consumables while you are learning basic TIG skills is priceless. I bought the fancy cups and gas lenses when I bought my welder a few months ago, but they are not being used until I have got the basics firmly in hand. I have not seen the advice to stick with standard consumables “Early on” anywhere else on RUclips. You are exactly right. Thanks for saving me, and others, from that pitfall.
Man! These videos just keep getting better and better. The information is nicely broken down with wonderful supporting graphics and just the right amount of humor to keep it light and interesting. Good work!
It seems obvious that you’ve done well working under the helmet and earning a decent living; it’s also obvious you’ve learned a ton along the way. I hope you are successful at replacing your income (and more) with a shift towards teaching as you have a real talent for it and have a lot to offer. Your audience will certainly benefit and you’ll likely never know the full “positive impact” you’ve had on an entire community. Keep up the good work Justin. Thank you.
Thank you for your service Justin, and thank you for creating these great learning videos. I can MIG but am very new to TIG. One of my biggest questions is gas flow. Most tutorials tend to gloss over this. The formula of 2X the cup size is far better than the set it at 15-20 CF and forget it that I was recently told.
I literally just started Tig welding this week and your video cleared up so much confusion there is about all the variables in tig welding. Thank you! This is a great beginner video.
I HAVE BEEN WELDING FOR 40+ YEARS. MIG & STICK & OXY-ACET. I JUST BOUGHT A TIG MACHINE & KNEW NOTHING ABOUT TIG. I LIKE YOUR TEACHING STYLE! I WILL CONTINUE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO'S, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

THIS is the instruction guys like me have been hoping for - Thank you, Jason! Seriously, my friend, this is a Godsend! So very VERY clear and easy to UNDERSTAND, thus reducing mistakes to a minimum.
After 12 years of mig welding and owning a tig plant for a good few years and not using it, your video is one of the only ones that have given me the mental kick up the arse to blow the dust off of it and get practising tig. Subscribed 👍👍👍👍
The best explanation I've heard on how to weld. I wish you made this video 10 years ago when i was learning how to tig. Would have learned so much faster than i did. Kids have it so easy these days. Lol
I just ordered my 2024 255ext today. Haven't tig welded in 20+ years. I have to say that out of all the videos that I have watched about tig welding for beginners this is BY FAR the most informative! I will be checking out your uther vids! Thanks!
Thank you man for bringing my ego back into check, Seriously! I'm a heavy steel stick and wire feed welder for 44 years. I'm just getting back into TIG welding for light gauge fabricating at work in the process of retirement and making a go of my own Custom Industrial Furniture Business. And of course I will be building my hot rods an bike that I never got to build working and raising a family. But, I thought exactly what what you were saying all the super bitchin' stuff was going to fix all the stuff I forgot how to do... it didn't, only practice is going to fix it. And maybe watching a lot of your videos.
I saw this video a while back when I was a hobbyist welder, and I still am, but now work in a tool shop where I sell welders along with many other tools. Thankyou for the information you give in your videos, is very helpful. 😊
Excellent video here man. I've got an AHP alpha tig 201 XD coming. I started welding four or so years ago. I started with SMAW. I am self taught watching RUclips. I started with videos like this one. Mostly ChuckE 2009. Anyway, I was told that I should start my welding experience in SMAW and so I did. I spent a lot of time under the hood practicing and I've come a long way. Three years in and I bought my first wire feed. I bought an Everlast i mig 230 i. Great welder! And super good price. I'm rambling here .... Thank you for making videos like this one here. I know no one in person to get help from and I've got many questions about tig. You are answering those questions here in this video. I can hardly wait to put that tig torch in my hand next week. This video here will put me a mile ahead and I'm grateful! Happy welding to you all and good day!
I just bought a TIG and I have been struggling due to not having a manual and not having a clue. Thank you for this video, the first 5 mins was enough to clear up some of my issues. Like all of your videos clear, concise and exactly what we need! Thanks Justin
Dude you're a natural talking to people and I appreciate the way you drill in important parts. Very well done. This will be my first sub after being on youtube near 2 decades.
Very much liked your video. Old oxy / acetylene, steel rod, brazing, silver solder guy here who could finally afford a good tig machine. I think your no nonsense, stick with what works, and it's all about skill level is the best thing you can ever tell all us wanna -bes welders. Thanks. Now I'm heading out to weld with fire.
Still a different process. There are mig aluminum applications that will benefit from mixing helium in the gas so it doesn't pull as much heat off the puddle. Same goes for tig. I have a 185amp machine and that is not enough for me to properly weld aluminum that is thick or large enough to pull heat away and prevent a proper puddle. If I use 100% helium I can run an open corner on 1/4" aluminum at proper balance. Can't do it on straight argon unless you can preheat it enough to lower the amount of heat being pulled away.
I've been arc and MIG welding for years, (over 55) I just got my TIG welder and after watching your beginners videos I am more confident that I can figure this out
I have zero experience on a TIG, hobby level only on arc and MIG welding. My welds might stay together, but I would never be so brazen as to challenge someone experienced with these machines. Niave I am not, and practice is the only way to become comfortable with the process. Good safety is always a must. That arc is as bright as the sun, and it WILL burn unprotected skin. Good videos, much appreciated.
Awesome video. I bought my welder a couple of years ago and started out with whatever instruction/information I could find on RUclips but nothing was as clear, concise and complete as what you explained in this video. You covered all the “must know” points for us complete beginners and I now understand why my welds are so inconsistent. Thank you so much for these great tips and keep them them coming.
Hanks Justin. I haven’t welded TIG in 50 years. Just starting to get back into it and watching videos first. Thanks for great review and well done presentation.
You're very good at explaining these basic procedures, and dispelling some of the hype and 'mystery' surrounding TIG welding. Beginners learn more from looking at bad welds than they do, good welds, provided you demonstrate the reasons for the 'bad'.
Hey man what's your take on the longevity of everlast welders? I keep looking into the everlast 252 sti so I have everything from the start but I can't find enough consistent info good or bad to determine if it's gonna make it for the long haul. Keep up the great tig videos I've already learned alot from you
Absolutely, positively the best starting tutorial for TIG, hands down. The only complaint I have is where was this video 6 months ago when I started teaching myself TIG welding. Great channel, keep it up.
Top Ten video if you are TIG welding and learning. Invest 22 minutes now and save a thousand times that later, plus be a better welder the whole time. You hit the ball out of the park, Justin.
Acquired my first TIG and I really appreciate this episode. I'll probably appreciate it even more during the next several days/weeks/months as I begin this skill building adventure.
Man... I've been teaching for 13 years now and aside from Jody's videos this is one is on key man! Great job and hope to continue to see you succeed in your new endeavors! Great job and hopefully I'll get out there some year for some titanium training.
I have paid for a local tig class and to be honest they are mig welders trying make some money. This channel has way more USEFUL info than many local resources
I was a welder in the industry for almost 20 yrs. I always heard silver was the best color for SS. How ever, The old timers always told me that the color don't Exray! Love the information!
Not just how to do it right but every way you can do it wrong and the principles behind both. Simplifies the troubleshooting for the novice. THANK YOU!
Justin this video just confirmed and taught at the same time I started off the scratch start on a gas miller generator with a pedal amperage control back in 1982 but was always a pain to do a just quick light weld on steel. Then I made a 12v car alternator 1 hp 110v motor as a scratch welder with a pedal amperage control from miller machine which worked sweet and used that for the rest of my light welding up till 2017, then came in the cheap Chinese hf welder to try as a goof, I have to tell you doing steel and not having to scratch is a pleasure, while I haven't done the pedal amperage control just yet I seem to get about the same weld for each. They all weld they all never had a failure either, and being a mechanic by trade and making one of a kind specialty tools that take an extreme use and loaned out so you know that is disastrous just by knowing people. I love your saying if it works for you, well it has over 38 years for me. I am grateful a welder taught me just enough to get me started and you in the past couple of years have helped me tremendously. Thank you, Justin. BTW why would someone not like this video. Keep up the videos.
Justin, I can't thank you enough for your videos. I'm learning how to TIG weld entirely on them. Every topic gets fully covered in a very reasonable and intuitive way. Thanks man!
All of your videos are on the money, never stray from the topic. Very much appreciate your videos. (Andrew). Thank you very much. Just want to say you down to earth humble and happy to share your knowledge.
G'day from Australia. I am new to TIG welding, having only just bought my first TIG, but I found this particular video brilliant. It answered most of the questions I had, perfectly, and even answered questions I had no idea I needed to ask!! Thanks guys.
Probably the most usable info I've seen yet from any of the TIG welding youtubers. Thank you. Now to get out there and practice with my coupons from weldmetalsonline. Now to change from the gas lens back to standard cup.
2 words... Freaking awesome! This is the best video I've seen to date. Justin, I've weld using stick and mig for a long time, not professionally but enough to do some damage, but I'm new to TIG welding. I don't have anyone to show me how to do it, so it's all trial and error... mostly error. Needless to say, I've been overwhelmed with the enormous amount of information out there that everyone shoves at you in their videos. In this one video, you have helped me sort through so many of the needless info for a beginner and saved me countless amounts of time (as well as ARGON) trying to sort through all the info. All I can say is Thank you!
Awesome ! I bought a Brand New Everlast 211si, looking forward to my first Tig. Welded Mig and stick last night with it, Mind Blowing, I've never owned a Machine so nice.
This is exactly what I needed. I just acquired a pair of 2009 Miller XMT 304 TIG/MIG/Stick boxes; one appears to be 100% functional, one not so much, but it'll either be a parts box, or sent down the road, if it's an easy/cheap fix. They came with nothing, including no power cord. This is my first foray into TIG, so I need to learn the basics, and you provided an excellent step in the right direction. Thanks... Now it's on to the two vids you recommended. GeoD
I am 67 and I just love the skill of gluing metal together, did the research of the different models at the time sycrowave and Lincoln. I looked for problem resolutions the list for the sycrowave was very long, the list of problems for the Precision tig 275 was empty. I have no formal education in welding so I wanted to by a tool I could not blame as the cause of my failures. What you have just said in this video I have not heard before. Other than with the Transformer machines use what works, I have heard that. I have repaired a pair of glasses. I have welded a roof that was cut off a Prius and I have welded a power unit back on to a boat motor. I appreciate the effort you put into your videos.
Outstanding video and lessons. I'm new Tig, been welding Mig for a long time and took lessons. Thought no problem, can teach myself easily. Wrong, need to re-learn how to weld. I learned more here than all the books and other videos combined. They just gave confusing info. Thanks.
Great video. It's been 20 yrs since I tig welded and it was on a real nice miller. Obviously everything was all set up. Didn't learn about torch tip material or cup size or any of the set up stuff. I didn't have time to learn about nothing but technique. So as I now have a tig welder n need to do some welding on a car project, I needed this video thank you!!

You covered all the “must know” points for us complete beginners and I now understand why my welds are so inconsistent. Thank you so much for these great tips and keep them them coming.
Great content for us unskilled welders!!!
Hanks Justin. I haven’t welded TIG in 50 years. Just starting to get back into it and watching videos first. Thanks for great review and well done presentation.
Nice clean new shirt
Uniform services are the best thing ever. Always clean, pressed and delivered once a week for cheap.
@@TheFabricatorSeries Nice!
Your killing the subscriber game...congrats. Fantastic video
Mr Justin you have been a game changer for me . You practical approach has not gone unnoticed . Keep up the good work.
The guy has radio voice
If one could harness the energy that you use to gesticulate you could power a small city!!!
Top Ten video if you are TIG welding and learning. Invest 22 minutes now and save a thousand times that later, plus be a better welder the whole time. You hit the ball out of the park, Justin.
I wonder if wearing a welding cap sideways when you’re a bench welder has any benefits or is it strictly for trying to look cool
Yes, it helps the weld stick!😀
You have one hell of a teaching ability. Been welding for years, mostly self taught, and even I picked up some helpful stuff from this.
Gas here is really expencive, I'm keeping my small cup! lol
Acquired my first TIG and I really appreciate this episode. I'll probably appreciate it even more during the next several days/weeks/months as I begin this skill building adventure.
I see what you did there... "SubscRibe"
I'm an absolute beginner and this video was down to earth, honest and easy to understand, many thanks
My old work boy told me to run on positive and once I watched this and made all the adjustments it came out amazing!!!
Thank you brother
You do an amazing job of simplifying this topic without being demeaning in any way. I will definitely watch your other videos!
Just imagine what it would be like taking a class here in person. You get to learn all the other stuff not covered in videos

Of all the welding videos I've watched over the years this is more valuable than all of them combined.
What a wonderful, no nonsense, no buzz word demonstration about how to get going with TIG! I'll see you for a class this summer, can't wait.
Justin, I can't thank you enough for your videos. I'm learning how to TIG weld entirely on them. Every topic gets fully covered in a very reasonable and intuitive way. Thanks man!
Dude you are an epic teacher, step by step and right to point with no BS in the middle.. keep it up, you have a new subscriber !!
You have an amazing speaking ability. Fast and accurate. You never misspeak. Even if you are reading it is amazing.
Insane the amount of positive feedback this guy gets. It's all well deserved!
Been watching all of your TIG videos for a long time and just did order my own TIG machine, here by Tuesday. Thanks for all your info, huge help.
Probably the best TIG rundown I have ever heard.

Wow, no words wasted, full 22 minutes right on point! Thanks so much for your efforts!
Best welding teacher I’ve ever seen and I went to school for a year in welding!!!!
I’m new to TIG welding and your series. You do an excellent job teaching this subject matter, keep up the good work. Thank you.
For me, this is the best welding channel on YT !!!!
Awesome info! I learned more in 20 min than I have in the past hour of other instructional videos combined. Thanks, Scott
Outstanding video and lessons. I'm new Tig, been welding Mig for a long time and took lessons. Thought no problem, can teach myself easily. Wrong, need to re-learn how to weld. I learned more here than all the books and other videos combined. They just gave confusing info. Thanks.
Incredibly USEFUL and deeply appreciative for this initial how to for TIG. Got me a lot more comfortable after watching this!
