- In this episode we take you thru building a Post Frame porch start to finish, RR Building style. I am not going to say we invented this style...but I had never personally seen it done this way before we did it. Like I say in the video, I am not an engineer, nor is this porch design engineered, but our porches are rock solid when we construct them.

You are definitely a high-quality contractor. You take great care in building the porch to make it perfect… I am definitely impressed! Can’t wait to see the next video….thanks…
I read the entire Ryan's ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.
I’m basing my porch build off this with a few twists. Thanks for all these videos. You guys are the real deal.
I know y'all have done these porch videos before but I always enjoy watching them anything to do with framing and exterior siding and trim work. Thanks
Awesome job Kyle and Gregg! Gotta love your attention to detail! Another great video!
Your guys professionalism is so great to watch. Love it keep up the good work and teaching better habits!
Love that long audio Crossfade of the impact driver. Made me really happy.
Did you notice how Greg placed the boxes very neatly and square against the house at the beginning? A perfectionist. That’s why those guys work well together.
Loving the new filming. Added a new dimension to your superb content 👌
Dude ur a god!!!!! Ive been trying to learn all the ins and outs of it for 4 years now. I love the way you display info.
Perfect job guys, I am amazed of your workmanship and how good you guys are!!!!!!!🎉🎉
Love that 45 angle cut so smooth fit in perfect
Didn't know Canelo Alvarez was a builder
Ha! That was the first thing that came mind lol
What a great job you guys did! Very impressive!
Awesome work! I wish more contractors dialed in the details like you do.
"Your work is top-notch! I'm impressed with how much attention you pay to the details."
RR is the gold standard for pole frame construction.
Very informative. Thanks for the video. Love watching this home get built.
The 90s are calling. They want that door back. Porch cover is awesome man good work
Great vid Kyle n Greg and also props to the camera guy👍👍..
Didn't felt like a long video at all....
Thanks again for sharing all your work experience with us, there's always something good to learn from.
I wish all bosses were like you Kyle!!!!!!
👍💯👍
Very nice..bring back the days where I used 6x6 for framing the decor I used to build..I used lag screws to connect everything..😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
RR.. you should start including the outtakes/bloopers at the end of each of your videos :) Would show the world we are all human. Love your content and keep those vids coming!
The camera work is threw the roof excellent...no pun indented...also, love the precision in all the measurements...WOW
Those lasers are an amazing tool makes life easier great video guys
Absolutely superb Professionalism, keep it up.
Having the right tools is key
Very inspiring for my next building porch.
Great video! Thank you guys for posting.
I enjoyed the video of course, but I was really impressed with the videographer, well done 👍 it was like watching a PBS episode of “ This Old House “ Kyle your the new Norm and Bob Silva combined
Love the tools in this video. I have carpenter jealousy 😂😂 that laser is mint!!!!
that's amazing! I never would have thought 42 years ago that they would make a circular saw that could cut through four 2x's at one time! Any time dad and I cut big cedar beams, we would do our best to line up the cuts when we would flip a beam to cut through the other half! You could always tell when you done it that you had to make a second cut; it was never perfect.
Makita made one around 1980 .
@@roccoconte2960 I was framing residential homes since 1976 in Oklahoma and never saw one!
@@comingtofull-ageinchrist6736 it was 15 or 16 inch blade they were about 250.00 at the time I almost bought one
Thank you for this ! Good job ! Hi from ILLINOIS
Great Job guys!
Awesome job Bro love your work.
Whoever you now have doing your video work, is doing a really good job. 😎
Great information on the 2x12 ill try it on my next one.
Nothing like having the right tools for the job... makes things so much easier. Your typical DIYer has a much tougher time taking on a project like this, but good, informative video.
Just my 2 cents worth but I really prefer these videos than tool reviews etc. these videos are the reason why we all love you guys and got hooked on the content.. even the original 1 angle mounted to the lift shots I love… Annnnnyway… that’s just my opinion, it’s your channel so run it how you want.. I’ll still be here for the build series
Can’t please everyone so I typically
Do whatever is interesting to me. I do however appreciate your feedback and would agree I typically would always rather be building. Some people like to hear about tools or other odd ball things as well
@@RRBuildings can’t believe you read this and gave a reply. I can only imagine how tough it is to find the balance… running a building company and RUclipsr… I appreciate you providing us the videos to entertain and educate us all.. i hope you are financially rewarded for the effort you put into your videos.
Great work!
Excellent craftsmanship. Really enjoyed watching professional at work. Very well explained.
Thanks for your time.
amazing as always
Nice job 👍
I like the cedar posts too.
Great job Enjoyed it. Thanks.
I've heard people argue that all the prep, math and layout is a waste of time but they don't get to reap the reward of finishing the build that is square and exactly what it needs to be. Too many times I have had to help cut custom pieces for every sheet because the person in charge didn't want to take the time to layout properly. Its delayed vs instant gratification and I think in the end your way is faster and produces a better product.
👍
Great video. You have great skills.
you are amazing craftsman wow greetings from the netherlands i learn much from you thnx for sharing
Great job, love your attention to detail. Would love to have your skills.
It will be nice for the family to make memories in a house that will endure for decades, if not centuries.
A compliment to your camera man/woman! Great job! Well done! 👍😁
👏🏻
Took that 12” like nothing. Classic.
Missed the obligatory "That's what she said" comment 😛
The look on your face after you said it! 😂
I was expecting Greg to say something like “like your mom” 😂
I'm pretty sure you can't say that on RUclips kyle
That would of been classic if Greg would of said that.@@kickyourfaceandlaugh607
Love it!
I always use my Master Trim Side Long Saw for the Big Cuts
man that is great work. I wish i could hire you guys. But will try to follow your work on my porch
Awesome job brother
GOOD AFTERNOON & HAPPY EASTER
Great video and detail. What is the advantages/disadvantages of framing with purlins vs 16/24 oc roof rafters? Thanks
The imperial system is difficult. (I'm watching from Russia) And this is work and projects, tools and equipment - really cool work.
Wow that drill is bad ass
Really enjoyed the comment as you went along. Good job. That big saw, tho.
Excellent video. Good demonstration, tips and teaching .Thanks guys.👍💪
Always fun watching you guys build. Give Greg a mic lol
It would be nice to see the end result... the content was great, and I was looking forward to the end product...
Those GRK screws are the best, expensive mind you but worth the extra money!
Beautiful
Hay Kyle: yesterday I saw these guy's building a barn dominium, I thought it was you guys. they were using the same materials and tools like you do. I said to my self. No way it's not Kyle and Greg. I said hell no, I'm not watching those guys. I watch the real thing. Thanks for your vlogs. I saw them guys and felt a weird way like some one stole something from me. 😄
I put down woven 12' sub-base fabric on the dirt to keep out of the mud. Landscape staples to hold the fabric from shifting too much.
Good Job 👍
Just bing watching the home buil. On the majrex , if able would it be better to roll it out completely on the wall going along pressing it to the tape making corners better and reducing joints ? I know it would take more manpower.
God bless you and Greg as well as your families.
My knees hurt just watching you kneel on that rim joist.
he does it on concrete like a champ too, brutal to watch
Lol I drive by that place everyday crazy to see it on RUclips
Hello RR,
Your videos and channel in general, brine EXCELLENT information!
If it's no bother, please.... Could you tell me, what types of timbers did you use in this porch for: the columns, beams, joist, rafters and eaves?
Nice one👏 Awesome... How old this now that little green hitachi now?? Looks like still work with no problems... Should have some tool review, how you think tools work over the years of use maybe 🤔
Hey happy Easter you two🤝
This guy is spot on with his work. Anyone who says he doesn’t know what he’s doing is higher the giraffe balls
I want a beam saw for christmas
For light structures such as your porch uplift forces due to wind often will control the design so your column bases and the anchoring to the concrete is important.
you are for sure pro status.
Does there need to be a type of flashing between the wood and the existing wall?
Cover photo is so badass
Gawddamn! Now that’s a skill saw
perfect curve!!! never fails!💯💪💪💪💪💪
I’m going to start counting how many times Kyle says Greg in each video. 😂
If I tried to walk across that beam, Greg would be scraping me up with a stick and a spoon.
Come on guys.. wear some safety glasses. Love your channel
😂
You need a ladder 2’ higher. Also get that ladder closer to work point. That leaning and stretching along with being too high up shorter ladder can get you. All it takes is 1 bad fall.
I am concrete on floating slab @ 20+" above grade (the house was set 5 ft above grade and back-filled 3 ft - due to a high water table). There is no basement. One quote person told me that I will get leaks and rot if I don't put my porch level 2" above grade (ugly patio). It's all concrete below 16-18". I just want a porch slightly below my sill that could've been installed in the first place. I think that if drainage is proper, there should not be a problem.
This Video very, very Interesting! To first the good work with to Explain and then in Quick passing through. Very Instructive. Thanks
I would be very interested to know the cost of this build. My family and I are moving to North East Texas towards the end of Fall, and we are set and decided on going the post frame route, but since its still a fairly new craze, there isnt a lot of detailed information on pricing.
A couple of questions: 1: Why not do a ledger board at the house for the rafters to frame into? Maybe overkill but would be easier to frame (for me a least). 2) why a 2x12 rafter for such a small span? (A 2x6 would work) #3: the porch roof is too close to the higher roof - looks awkward and how in the world did you attach the sheathing and roofing under the higher roof? Enjoy your videos and appreciate your level to detail.
Beautiful video and a professional job.
@rrbuilders- hey kyle, i have asked this question a few times. Can you please explain, when you are calling out "grade", such as on that concrete patio and this porch. Where and how are determining your grade point, then level? I can only assume that the porch you are working on has a slight slope for water to run off, but i see that your laser (180) is near or at the middle of the porch. So one part, near the house has to be higher then the outside edge. All of that seems a bit confusing. How do you determine where you are setting that laser/grade? This is all new to me. Have been in construction for 20 years, but have never ran one of these. Always just showed up and started banging nails. All the grade work had already been done. We live on a farm, i will be purchasing this laser set up as it will come in handy on many projects for the future.
Hahaha. Das beste am ganzen Video ist die gelbe Stabilia WASSERWAAGE. 😂😂😂👍🇩🇪
What’s your opinion on the Lp smart siding? My local hardware store just got it and I’m interested in your thoughts.
Kyle wouldnt it be good practice to treat the ends of the posts that are going to be exposed to the weather? Also is there something that you could put between the wood joints to help keep rot from happening?
Yes especially and cedar cedar tots really fast especially western red cedar if it was mountain cedar it’d be different I been doing this 22 years western red cedar is trash imo but all we get in texas
Nice ! One question , what kind of gun did you use to nail the brackets ?
It's called a placement nailer or Tiko nailer... It only shoots nails into metal hangers
do y'all not use H clips on the roof deck? Dad and I always did here in Oklahoma to keep the deck even in between the rafters.
Ты крут мужик, молодец💪💪💪👍👍👍
Where did you get that drill? I've never send a concrete drill with a guide like that before. Looks awesome
Kyle: its actually snowing out.
Gregg in muffled tone: yeah its snowing f#@$ face
kyle. you should invest in a Dewalt laser tape measure I recently bought 1 and they are well worth the money
When you gotta go you gotta go Greg 🤣🤣🤣
What's the best chalk line? Iv had many and not one I like or holds up for very long.
