- This is a video about the storyline of Richard Harrow from Boardwalk Empire. Richard was brutal but most of all very loyal. Hope you enjoy.
Richard is one of the saddest characters in the series because from the outside he sees himself as a monster because of his face but in the inside he's actually a good person that wants a Normal life and wants to quit being a assassin
I cant believe how this character and series are not more popular!
I agree. Before I started making them I searched YT for others similar and didn’t find a lot on the show at all. I hope these are doing BWE some justice. Thanks for watching
Because its REALLY a deep show and can't be easily dissected. As far as complicated Story telling in an HBO series. 1) Boardwalk 2) Deadwood and 3) The Wire. (I know everybody thinks the Wire is the greatest, but I think the Wire really spelled it out for the slow kids.) Boardwalk and Deadwood, you have to really TUNE in to the episodes and pay attention to the dialogue to get the pay offs.
A few have called Richard Harrow the greatest character in television history. I wonder how many others feel the same way. His death was emotionally draining.
As sum one that can Relate to Richard Harrows character it was Emotionally upsetting indeed not just his death But his story in genneral. His character is unmatched in my opinion.
I agree with that statement. He is iconic !
And yet, his death was very beautiful too. He was welcomed home by those he loved, and who loved him.
He's def my favorite character in a series for sure.
Richard was my absolute favorite. I flew between truly liking him and sometimes getting on to MYSELF for liking him. Questioning.
Richard is the only character that nearly brought me to tears.
His loyalty and code of honor made him an endearing figure. i especially loved how he rescued Tommy.
Oh yeah.
Nucky, Chalkie and Richard were my favorite characters, damn I love this series
Thanks for watching fam. Have a good holiday
Jimmy, Richard, and Chalky are my top 3 characters in this series.
Thanks for these videos man. Love them.
I appreciate you watching my friend
Richard's death was one of the saddest in the show. I really was rooting for him, but I knew it was a long shot.
He was almost there 😔
Facial prosthetics for veterans were actually made out of rubber during the Great War, after which they then switched to using tin sometime after the armistice, not wood. In the episode Emerald City, Harrow tells one of Margarette Schroeder’s children that his mask is made of tin.
My uncle is a huge fan of the show and also a historian. He said the exact same as yourself, that Veteran masks would be made of wood. However, he theorised that because the glasses were built into the mask, tin may have been used as a one-off (or at least a rarity) to ensure strength and minimal maintenance.
In WW both the British and the French used tin. The reason they used tin was you could manipulate tin to fit the disfigured soldiers face or what was left of it. Tin was also lighter in weight than wood so it would be more comfortable for the soldier to wear for prolonged periods of time.
In Paris there still is a tiny museum where a collection of these mask appear on the wall. It also shows the visitor the process of how the mask was made and fitted to the wounded man’s face. They also show you the pictures of the ghastly facile wounds of the victims. It takes a strong stomach to look at how much damage a high speed bullet or shrapnel can do a humans face. These masks gave at least some men the ability to go out in public and live a somewhat normal life. Also there was a country estate where these men could go to and be around other soldiers who suffered a similar face. They also formed a veterans group to lobby for better benefits.
The British had a special hospital, Siddcup, where all facile wounds were treated.
Something tells me that the Americans used tin mask on their own wounded.
“Bro” this and “bro” that. Literary garbage.
Richard was a badass character. Definitely one of my favorites in a show of great characters
when they made the guy kill himself, the guy says "There I wrote the confession you wanted" and Richard says: "Its not a confession, its a suicide note"
bonechilling
Richard is the most handsome character in this whole movie. He plays this role of the two sides of a sensitive human and the opposite a bruital killer. The mask portrays the two characters completely.
Great content. Much appreciated. Richard is an absolute favorite on one of the best shows ever, as far as I am concerned. His arc in the show was very interesting and tragic.
Thank you for watching. Have a great new year
I'm glad it was Richard that got revenge for Angela they did her dirty
Liked and subscribed. Richard and Chalky were my fav characters of this show and this was some good content.
I appreciate you watching my friend🤘🏾
I'm actually binge watching BE now , haven't seen it all in a few years but Richard Harrow is the most tragic interesting compelling character of all time, period. not to mention badass assassin .Thanks for this, Jack Huston deserves much recognition for his portrayal of Richard Harrow !
Favorite fictional character of all time✌️
Being a vet, jimmy and richard always ressonated with me. They were from my great grandfathers war (had a lot of the same thoughts about WWI that my great grandfather did) & yet they said and acted like my gradfathers, or fathe or uncle did after their war, or like myself and my friends acted after our decade long nightmare.
Even my great great grand father wrote down a lot of the same thoughts and emotions after his time as a colonel in the union army, or my multiple great grandfathers after watterlou, the revolution ect.
They somehow nailed that universal feeling that you find at the VFW, with guys 70 years older than you who you have never in your life met before.
Thank you for your service and thank you for watching🙏🏾
I've only started getting into boardwalk Empire very recently. Your videos really help me make sense of complicated characters end story lines. Thanks.
Richard is hands down my favorite TV show character 🙌 👏
The most haunting and sympathetic character in TV history. The scene where Richard was pasting pictures of family scenes inside his scrap book, knowing he will never have a family of his own haunted me for weeks. He reminds me of the main character in John Ford’s masterpiece, The Searchers. Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne. The classic anti-hero role that has been copied in filmdom for the last 65 years.
What a character!!!!
Scene when he tells Jimmy he could kills the Mother, Sisters, and Dentist to see if the brothers would come out and Jimmy was like. I'll think about it had me in stitches.
GREAT video. Boardwalk was such a well written show with so many complex characters and Richard was right at the top.
Thank you and I agree with you.
Love the analysis. He definitely was my favorite character in this series.
He was not a monster. He was a soldier. He just needed to know the objective and he was on the clock.
Off the clock, he reverted to being an individual.
Rest in peace Richard Harrow the real g
Next to Nucky, Chalky was the most interesting character in the series. I loved Narciss's soully on his charismatic presentation coupled with his carribean education gave his character sophistication the series needed.
I cried when Richard Harrow died, probably more so than the death of Chalky. His character was so compelling! Watching this video left me feeling the same sadness. Boardwalk Empire was a great series - one of the greatest I would say.
The instant friendship and level of loyalty and trust that formed between Jimmy and Richard was beautiful and heartbreaking to watch, as well as how Jimmy's family welcomed Richard into their fold. I can't watch Jack Huston in anything else and not see him as Richard, no matter how good he's been since. Incredible show.
Richard Harrow was a BEAST!! One of my favorite characters from the show.
Great video. Always was my favorite character on Boardwalk and there were some epic ones.
Thank you, I appreciate you watching
Loved his bond with Jimmy.
I think the "dentist" here was the fifth brother who wasn't a gangster, not just some dentist.
He was my absolute favorite character in the show. A beautiful tragedy of a man.
That "63" wants near the final tally. It was before the massacre at the bordello along with a bunch of others as well.
You're a diamond in the rough, my man !
🤣🤣One of the best comments, I’ve gotten dog. Thank you
Great video, bro. One thing I must say, even though it's a small thing, his face prosthesis wasn't wooden, but made of tin and hand painted. There were real examples of veterans who'd been disfigured during the first world war with similar prosthetic masks that the creators of the show based him off of.
Good catch my friend. Thank you for watching.
I've never heard of this show before, it popped up on my RUclips a few weeks ago, the butcher scene, looked very interesting . Then I bought the series on Vudu and binge watched it. Richard is the only character I felt bad for, he's the only one I wanted to live at the end with his new family. His death was sad.
Thank you BROTHER from Derbyshire England 🏴👍👍
I am a sucker for period pieces like this, hell on wheels, gangs of New York. The costumes, the props alone. Boardwalk is some fantastic writing, as Jeffrey Wright stated.
Really enjoyed that video sir! Excellent work - subscribed 👍🏼
I’m glad you enjoyed, thank you for watching my friend
Amazing video sir
@@grumpymrpug9282 Thanks fam, I appreciate it
I'm glad you make videos of boardwalked empire 👍
I’m glad people like you take the time to watch. Couldn’t do it without y’all 👍🏾👍🏾
Richard Harrow is a unit man that dude was off the chain. My favorite character
The dog fought for things that are important to a dog. A home, a pack, a meal, a warm place to sleep...... Things that a dog would find important. My dog is the sweetest dog you ever want to meet. Hes just a 100lb dog shaped blob of love covered in fur. He
This was good work, nice inflection and tone, kept it interesting. You could do audio stuff imo.
Funny you say that. I actually do voiceovers for people’s companies. Haven’t done any commercials or major carton character yet but I’m working on it. Would love to narrate espn 30 for 30 series or something like that. Thanks for watching, Have a good holiday
It’s not that he was remorseful for being a killer of deserving human beings. Putting down a beloved innocent dog is hard on him because the Dog is pure of heart. Humans want to hurt us, Dogs just want Love and to give us Love in return.
Richard would have killed Owen I love Charlie Cox too but Richard is a killing machine
Great videos! You have a good voice for storytelling, keep going, improve the visuals and you’ll blow up in no time!
Thank you, I appreciate it
Hi came across this, I love the character Richard Harrow, thanks for doing this x
Thank you for watching
I call him PFK...Plastic Face Killah. Every time he would do his this thing, I would chant PFK! PFK!
One thing the dentist was also a dalessio brother thay were family they wouldn't care if it was just some random dentist. He was just not a "bad guy"
Good work on these videos brother, these were great characters.
Thanks, you watching means a lot
One of my favourite characters in any series
Owen showing up in the box dead was by far my favorite scene
The story writers really screwed up the ending of his character. I stopped watching the show after he died in the last episode of season 4. I can see why they shortened Season 5, the two most interesting characters were killed off the show, Jimmy Darmody in season 2 and then Richard in Season 4. I thought his character deserved a more dignified death, which is why most people stopped watching after Richard died.
I so badly wanted him to get his “happily ever after”. His story will always make me sad, but I’m happy Tommy got to stay with Julia.
Great a video my dude!
Lotsa good info when it's put back to back like that.
I'm subbing, Id like to see you continue, going show to show.
Thanks, what other shows would you like to see breakdowns of.
Richard wasn't a monster, when you are in war for a very long time you get desensitized to violence. Your brain changes after war because it is a survival mechanism. I can't count how many young Afghan kids get blown up by IED’s when I was over there. It's a totally different world that most people wouldn't understand.
Richard harrow was the best character in Boardwalk
You did a good job, your voice is pleasant but get the film clips in line just for me?? It brings it all back if they fit smooth.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching
Hey my friend! Sorry I haven't checked in for awhile. I still believe that you have a great future in YT . Good content and great presentation. But I have a question for you - didn't you already do this video. It says you just posted it today, but I swear it;s one of the first videos of yours I saw. Either way, I wish you the best as always.
What’s going on brother. Just uploaded a video on The Darmody’s go check that out and it will make sense I promise 🤣. Hope all is well with you my man
Richard was def an animal!! Him Joe Masseria and Chalky were my fav guys but I enjoyed everybody… the series was on the level of The Godfather of the 70s…
In the long run Owen was a good character but a weasel type u cant look past
Hell yeahh, I’ve been saying this bro
I'm reformed for yrs now. But when I had my crew. I would have loved to have a guy like that
I am happy for your reformation brotha. Thank you for watching
And he can't be a varsity athelete😊
Relax Uncle June🤣🤣
Jimmy would've look at him like that in real life too. When you're in the big leagues, vengeance has rules. One of the most sacred, you DONT target family. Not wives, not kids, not even second cousins twice removed. The dentist, however, is fucked.
By far my favorite character in the show. Also the most honorable charactor.
Nucky, Charlie are my fav two.
It's been a while since I've watched the series. But, from what I remember, the dentist is not a random dentist but another brother that also happens to be a dentist. The idea of Richard killing random ass people is not consistent with his overall character.
an excellent show
He couldn't adjust to regular society, so he kept living in a world where he was most comfortable. The face was a great symbol of how he saw himself as a monster, as someone who already accepted his soul was irredeemably lost. A tragic story and, in an underrated show full of great characters, he was my favorite.
Loved the show ,great vid
Thank you, I appreciate you watching
No reason to have him killed like the way they did smh they could’ve just let him live his life and rise Jimmie’s son and caught him how to shoot and Tommy would’ve taken over the game that would’ve been a lot better then his death and how the show ended 🤦♂️
Can you do a video on Owen Slater? I agree Charlie Cox gave an awesome performance. Have you watched Charlie Cox in Daredevil?
Yes, Bernthal is one of my favorite actors as well. They did work in season 2 together.
Richard was definetely my favorite character. Too bad he didn´t have a happy and peaceful end with Tommy and his wife. Good job though, I enjoyed your explanation very much. Cheers from Brazil homie!
The dentist was another brother
Be carefull with that posture man
Just click on your channel these insights are pretty good
Glad you enjoyed my friend
One of my favorite characters.
Great job!
Thank you bro
Just found out about ya channel 👍 and I've just finished broadwalk 👍 he was born in King's Lynn Norfolk ENGLAND 🏴 I LOVE AMERICA 🇺🇸 UNTIL KID SNIFFER JOE .😡
You know how bad ass you have to be to take a group of ppl out with only one eye!!!
do you ever plan to make a 10 best villians list that would be wild.
Richard is cool like Alejandro from sicario they truly good guys amongst bad guys and are extreme killer's cause they need to be to survive you truly have compassion for them cause they didn't choose the life they choose to do whatever it takes to survive I've always admired folks like this the underdogs
I wanted a happy ending for this character. I was so sad that he died before re-uniting with his wife and son.
Easily the two most likable people in the show, if the only ones 😅 you know, minus all the killing… except the dentist. They have it coming.😂
I think it would've been better if Richard survived and spent season 5 hiding from Chalky’s crew. His death just completely spoiled the rest of the series for me. I'll never watch season 5.
You are so far off with the "boogie man" label.
Richard was an honorable warrior just trying to fit into a world where he no longer belonged.
Thanks for watching bro
In my opinion, Season 4 is what killed the continuation of the series.
The original John Wick aka Richard Harrow was the best of the best u could ever ask from a character of that species ❤
Dude at frame 4:25 the mask is on the left side of his face? Someone F up there.
Richard’s mask was computer generated so only thing I can guess is that for that picture they tried it on the other side of his face. Thanks for watching boss
His mask isn’t CGI, why would it be? It’s just a simple prop. His fully viewed damaged face is CGI..
The image might have been flipped.
Yes to Gilian
Just did a video about Jimmy and The Darmody’s. Working on a video about Gillian’s end as well. Thanks for watching
I don't think you can be willing to kill a mother, sisters, the dentists, completely innocent people, and still be an honourable man.
The Dentist?!
Richard was pure overkill, i guess god sent em that dog. I don't blame him ending his own life, he got tired of fighting & was ready to give up. Never got to see all of it 😢
Get 'er done.
Extremely underated comment
Mr. House alternative timeline
Karmic retribution fully referenced
How come Richard respects Nucky so much that he even not willing to revenge him for Jimmy?
Savage 💪💪
