- Erin Field warms against hammocks after an accident involving one left her quadriplegic. On the day of the accident in 2017, she was with a boy she'd just started dating. They both sat in a hammock, and a chimney collapsed and fell on her, leaving the 28-year-old paralyzed from the chest down. Now she uses social media to spread awareness about quadriplegia and to warn people of the dangers that can come with using a hammock. "I need to start making people more aware," she told Inside Edition Digital's Andrea Swindall.
she's a prime example of "if she can do this while in her condition, then what am i doing in my life" kind of person
So true. I have a lower back injury, and I became so unfit this past three years. I am very disappointed with myself. She is inspiring
OMG!! 🙄
What is wrong with people?
Listen to the video!!
The hammock was tied to the chimney. The chimney fell on her.
She is an amazing woman with a great attitude. ❤️
I would crawl in a hole and feel sorry for myself. I am not a positive person.
Praying for her !!🙏💜
Exactly, thank you so much!❤
I am so glad her boyfriend stayed. She is a ray of sunshine.
shout out Jack ❤

I know of one other girl who was quadriplegic because of the porch pillar her hammock was attached to collapsed on her, followed by part of the porch roof. She felt lucky to be alive, her doctors said two inches forward and her skull would’ve been crushed and she would not be here. Please heed the warnings and try to prevent these types of injuries.
I had a broadcasting professor in college whose wife was killed when a tree that was rotted fell on her while she laying in hammock. Just a sad freak accident.
I've heard of so many hammock accidents by now, I'm pretty sure I'll never use one ever again, no matter how safe it looks.
There have been deaths from hammocks too! Something you wouldn’t think is dangerous IS.
there's deaths from drinking too much water. pretty much everything in this world can kill or hurt you in some way
Mother and daughter in my neighborhood were on a hammock between two trees.
Tree snapped, fell on the, mother broke her pelvis, daughter died.
Be very, very careful where you place a hammock.
Poor young woman.
Always play it safe, even when you're high on happiness.
Best wishes to Jack, Erin Field and her lovely family.
Thank you so much!🥹♥️
You have so much strength and if half of this world had an tenth of your positive attitude we would all live in a better place
Wow thank you so much 🥹♥️🙏🏻
Amen 🙏🕊️
damn, I'll never go near a chimney
Walks by their fire place every single day.. You know there is a chimney above that fire place right?
I truly think the safest way to have a hammock is for it to be in a hammock stand. If it does collapse way less injury if any at all. This video totally missed the mark by not mentioning that
Wow what an amazing man Jack. My 5 year old is named Jack. I wish them both the best. Amazing woman, very inspiring.
Both Erin and Jack have such beautiful spirits❤❤
Aww thank you so much!!❤
If you're going to buy a hammock, buy a hammock stand.
Stay strong girl. You got this.
I would have never though about the danger of what the hammock is attached to, falling on you. Thank you for sharing your story so people can be aware.
This is what true love looks like without any selfishness🤌🏻💗👥
Also, it's a trauma-bond.
@@witriole_22 Yeah Buddy 🧿🦖
Why is she warning against hammocks when the falling chimney is probably what injured her?
Because it was tied to it which caused the collapse
@@kmarch6630 yes but it both : swing and pulling basic physics@ campaign for falling chimneys. You tuber good luck
Fr
Yes ,people may not be aware of how dangerous they can be if connected to an unstable structure.
Because the chimney didn’t just fall by itself. The hammock was tied to it. It was the hammock that made the chimney collapse.
Love her spirit. Would be easy to just be sad all the time and not do anything with her life in her position, but instead, she’s living her best life!
She is absolutely precious and amazing inside and out,,im so proud of her for all of her accomplishments 👏👏,,, absolutely breathtaking
Aww thank you very much 🥹♥️🫶🏻
Since it was the Northeast, it was probably an old brick chimney. Definitely, not meant for something to be bolted into.
Never, will I lay in a hammock.
Good luck and best wishes to you and your family.
Thank you so much ❤
Maybe warn people about tying hammocks to old New England chimneys.
@nannerz1994 . * She did exactly that in this video. She talked about a woman whose son was killed via a hammock. That info is on their website.
That too! I didn't hang it
I’m trying to understand what that would even look like how would they hang the hammock from a chimney?
She’s so positive.. seriously inspiring. She deserves all the love happiness and success in the world ❤️✨
Bless her heart!!🙏⚕️ 🙏
Im so sorry you became a quadriplegic . Your doing good in life . Im a Paraplegic L1 incomplete and it was hard for me i grieved over my new life and i was also sick to my stomach first few months but it could been the medicine
What a great man she has. ❤❤
You're such a strong, selfless amazing woman to turn a tragic accident into good for others. 💪🏼🙏🏻 You came from the mold God made us to be from!
Thank you so much!🥹🫶🏻
She’s a warrior!!! I love that she is incredible to share awareness and setting examples for others ❤❤
Hmm..how bout Chimney accident.
Hammock on the ROOF.
@@Tryp-j9da rooftop area that you can hang out on. This happens with hammocks all the time.
Wow what an inspiring story. I only broke my fibula recently, still in physical therapy and having just that is painful and discouraging. The fact that she has a glow and still keeps pushing through that physical therapy is amazing.
I’m in tears…❤❤❤
Yikes...talk about a "freak accident".
No kidding!
How is she a quadriplegic if shes moving her arms ?
Only some of the arm muscles and not others.
She can move her arms but they're weak.
Fine motor function isn't working right. Like typing (on a keyboard or on a phone) is harder for her while it's pretty easy for most of us.
Woman: "i was so depressed. My friends were gone back to school. I went to a therapist"
Reporter: "But she admits she never got sad about it"
Woman: "I was depressed alot"
Okay....
I was never depressed but I definitely had sad moments
They met in Boston, at a hotel? She said it was a 3h drive for both of them. Sue the one/company who was responsible for the hammock.
We actually met at my brothers apartment in Boston and it was his hammock
People not getting this is pretty frustrating. She said it’s not so much the fall but what falls on top of you that injures you. Don’t tie them to any brick structure at all
Yes exactly!! Thank you 🙏🏻
your doing great
I wouldn't really say I was extreme hammocking lol but thank you❤
She got a gem in form of Jack🎉
Absolutely ❤
The music transition 2:17 was at the wrong time. She was literally talking about the worst part of her story and yall playing happy music.
🤣🤣🤣
Great advice!
If only, ...if only each of us could have a free "get out of jail" card to quickly reverse a nasty incident in our life. I used to think that as a child. As an adult, I realize we most likely would need more than one card, but for some, one would be enough. If only.
not even disabilities can come between true love. wishing her and her soon to be husband the best in life.
Thank you so much!❤
@@ErinField you're welcome, you know what they say, if you can't stand to be with someone at their worst, you don't deserve them at their best.
They should change the title to “chimney accident” because the hammock had no part in her accident, it didn’t cause the injuries she received. It was the chimney that fell, even though the hammock was tied to it.
oh my god. hoping the best for her
Thank you so much ❤
@@ErinField love your positive outlook on life ❤nobody deserves to be defined by their disability, and I love that you have used your story to inspire and help others.
Let's talk about the BF and what an amazing man he is. Best of luck to them both
Aww thank you 🥰🙏🏻
Cherish good health people
Hurt me to hear her call herself gross around 5 minutes.
Im happy to see her self love and acceptance is boundlessly growing
I feel like my disability is nothing compares to hers.
Your disability is still valid❤
What does the hammock have to do with the chimney?
The hammock was tied to the chimney. When they sat on it, the chimney toppled over.
For those asking about what happened go to 6:40
Your one Amazing lady that has a wonderful loving man ❤❤ best wishes on your Recovery be praying for you 🙏
My uncle fell on his back when he was young of a swing now he's in his 30s and struggles to walk
So proud of u Erin
i will pray for you but your "man" is a role model!! we will do a Rosary for nine days in row!!
Be strong and keep faith alive!!
Well I am never using any hammock again or getting one myself either. I would also rather be dead than be completely paralyzed.
Best wishes to you, Erin! May all your dreams come true and may you enjoy your journey to achieving your goals.
Aww thank you so much!!❤
Back in high school, I had a friend who could use her arms, but not her fingers, and had to ride around a motorized wheelchair.
There was a hammock...on a roof????????
It was a rooftop area of an apartment building where residents could hang out
Why is video caption about the hammock instead of the chimney?
Right? So stupid. The chimney did this, not just simply falling out of the hammock.
@longlegs2121 yeah it's like tying it to a car and blaming the hammock when the car drives off and you fall on the floor 😂
It’s what the hammock is attached to that falls and can kill. You would think a whole brick chimney would sustain someone’s weight in a hammock, but it obviously didn’t. There should be better warning labels on hammock anchoring instructions
It’s still a hammock injury because the hammock being tied to it caused the collapse
Because it doesn't matter that it was the chimney, it could've been anything it was tied to. Happens all the time with other brick pillars or dead trees. This is a serious hammock issue.
True love ❤️
Such a BEAUTIFUL love story ❤❤❤❤❤
@@SundaysHealing indeed 👍🏻❤️💜
It's not the hammock accident why introduce it as that?
Because the hammock was tied to the chimney but it wasn't strong enough.
Prejudice anti-hammock propaganda. The big Air Lounger lobby got to Debra Norville.
Great story! Thank you!
I'm sad then I'm happy for her
You got this, girl!
Its a good thing i dont even know how to get into a hammock, and for that reason, they've always scared me enough not to attempt getting into one. Love that shes so positive... love that Jack never left, even though it was a newer relationship when it happened. ❤
I wonder how many hammock accidents happen on the reality show Survivor?
Jack is gorgeous!
God bless this young lady & her wonderful fiance🙏🏼. Her story was very humbling & reminded me of how grateful & appreciative I am for my own & my children's health & happiness.
Thank you so much ❤
Missing information. What does the chimney have to do with a hammock? No photos of the place before the accident?
Read the description and 6:40
What does the chimney have to with a hammock? THE CHIMNEY FELL ON TOP OF HER WHILE SHE WAS SITTING IN THE HAMMOCK. Do you see the connection now?
@@maxfrax333 Who t.f. ties a hammock to a chimney? That's beyond negligent. Hope she sues them for $millions.

I watched Final Destination when I was very young and since then I look at the world as a series of accidents waiting to happen. I would've seen that collapsing chimney a mile off. 😂

So true

Ok Americans and their like ,like like ,like like like like like like ....... , it's so frustrating, feels like a 3 year old trying to speak. Don't even have a verbal control over your mother tongue.
No, I completely agree, it was hard watching it back lol but I was just talking a lot and kind of forgot it was an interview
@@ErinField It's you 🥺🥺 sister. I apologise for my rude comment, I am not an American so it's kind of weird for us to listen to this particular style of talking. I hope you have a speedy recovery and a happy joyful life. 🥰🥰🥰
Omg! Poor woman!
Under one hour 👇
Gerd is worse
Was it the roof or the hammock ir bit of both that cause the accident especially if the roof fall on her and the hammack . And thats good he stayed and they engaged
So it was like a rooftop area that anyone in the apartment building could hang out on. So there was no roof that fell on me, it was just a chimney on the edge of the building that was attached to the other building.
This is exactly whh I don't do adventures like mountain climbing, rock climbing, skiing or hammock. Exactly why I stay to myself, my movies, my shows, my favorite UFC fighters and boxers & that's pretty much it. None of that wild life adventure stuff. Too risky man, tok dangerous. That's not long term life goals, that's short term temperament fun. I wanna be an immortal, a vampire amd finish everything I set out and want to. I don't even have gardens, cause want to avoid snakes, poison ivy, hidden creatures. And I don't take buses anymore. Anything dangerous is a no go. Even car crash and plane crash id risky but life's a gambit. If you're truly a main character then the plot will serve you and your story. And you will survive to finish your story with plot
Here's your $200k bill. Sorry
I will pray for you! To recover I believe in miracles from Prayers from Heaven God heal her.

Damn sucks for her.
Huge respect, absolutely HUGE respect to Jack. Most would have left not him though.
Tragic accident. Never liked hammocks, too uncomfortable.

A support pillar not strong enough to hold a hammock? That girl can’t be more than 120lbs. Sue the construction company.

LOL
😱😱

As with most awful things this type of speech originated from the damn states
Yeah, that was hard to watch back honestly😂
maybe you shouldn't tie the damn hammock to a chimney next time,😅😅
Maybe you shouldn’t comment such stupidity next time 😅😅
She didn't tie the hammock herself. It was already there. It was dark and she didn't see where it was attached.
@@userbutnotabuser24Exactly, thank you!!!❤
Blame the chimney not the hammock.
How does that make sense? It was the weight of us on the hammock that pulled it down. That's how all of these hammock accidents happen by attaching the hammock to things that aren't sturdy or a dead tree. This is 100% the cause of the hammock.
Quadriplegic that sounds like a superpower. I wish I had that.😂❤
Don't gotta wish when you can make it happen 🥰👍
so the hammock has nothing to do with the injury??
it's only where she was when the accident happened so the thumbnail should read
