@@lisasforehead6043 Oh dang I forgot about starlux. This is based on my experience. Heard they will fly to CGK in 2024 so I'm excited.
It's nothing to write home about because they still lag compared to their Japan, Korean, and Singapore counterparts. It's important to not compared China Airlines to U.S. based airlines because obviously the East Asian airlines will always outperform the likes of United, American, and Delta. But to be fair to the three unofficial U.S. flag carriers, they also offer the least expensive options. So poor people like me really can't afford East Asian airlines. We have to fly U.S. based airlines.

I have flown China Airlines about a week ago from SFO - TPE - MNL and reverse. I got to say that I was more than impressed with their hard product and their service. While the cabin is structured in an elegant way, especially the lighting gives it a very comfortable and stylish look. The IFE is equipped with the new Panasonic Explorer Map and has a fairly good selection of international movies. The food that was served was amongst the top 3 Eco meal experiences I have ever made, serving two hot meals on the long whole tracks (meals even included prawns) and one full hot meal on the 1h40 leg from TPE to MNL. Considering that other SkyTeam airlines - like AeroMexico - would not even serve you any veritable snack on an almost 4h route between SFO to MEX (where my journey started and begun), the service I have received on China Airlines (numerous water runs/
several servings of alcoholic beverages (spirits) included, was beyond spectacular). The whole experience comes with a great hub - where layovers are very feasible - and a very considerate service by the crew. 10/10 - would fly them regularly now.
I agree with you. I love China airlines’ crew who always provide an excellent service. Been flying with them over 7 years and services are consistent.

I flew the reverse of this route earlier this year, and then TPE-LAX afterwards. It was my first time on China Airlines and I was so impressed! I've flown both EVA and China Air in the past year and they're both some of the best long-haul economy experiences I've ever had! Taiwan is killing it!
Im about to take the same trip, from lax to sgn, i got an economy but their website is a pain to deal with, how are they charge you for baggages or are they free? I have heard 2 baggages are free 50lb each, does that sound right to you?
@@um8440 I backpacked through Vietnam so the only bag I brought was one very large backpack. I checked my bag and was not charged any additional baggage fees.

Economy class passengers to both Eva and China Airlines can check 2 bags at 50lbs each for free when you travel across continents (Am to Asia, Euro to Asia...etc). Free baggage rule becomes more astringent when you fly within Asia. @@bobjones1999

This is an excellent product on a narrowbody aircraft. I'm glad that they decided to retain personal IFEs simar to SQ, unlike most carriers that cheaped out their Y seats on narrowbodies.

Another great video. If you haven't done so, I'm interested in your take of Indonesia's SuperJet. A new-ish low cost carrier.
I flew with them in a A350 last Christmas and it was great, nice looking plane and a great cabin service. IMHO, this airlines is underrated.
Good review, and I liked the coverage of the public transport aspects. May I suggest that the subject airline's 'tech' - website, app, bag-drop terminals - is worth a mention in your reviews.
Talking about TPE and IAD…. A while back Taiwan was doing a tourism campaign and one of the promo pieces contained a picture of TPE’s terminal 1, or so they thought . Whoever put together that piece used a picture of the IAD terminal. 😂

Context about the Pokémon livery in 3:08
B-18101 is a part of the Flying Pikachu Project which the Pokémon Company collaborated with airlines across Asia to apply special Pokémon liveries as a series.
As of October 2023 when this video is posted, 7 aircraft from 5 carriers are part of the project. Skymark and ANA have 2 aircraft each, with China Airlines, Scoot, and T-Way each operating one.
B-18101 took on the Pokémon livery and launched in 28 September 2022, and I was among one of the passengers lucky enough to get a ticket for its livery maiden flight CAL7616 from TPE to TSA, touring the Ryukyu archipelago all the way up to Kyushu and back

Additional fact: Garuda Indonesia is going to have 2 737-800s in a Pokémon Livery by the end of the year, similar to Skymark's arrangement. Additionally there are 2 more Pokémon themed planes that are outside of the Pokémon Air Adventures program and part of the Pokémon Local Acts instead. Those include a Air Do 767-300ER themed to Vulpix and a Solaseed Air 737-800 themed to Exeggutor.
China airlines probably offers the best narrowbody experience in the world on their 321s, both in business and economy.

That cabin while minimalist, looks very relaxing, ideal for a 3-hour hop. However, there doesn't seem to be power outlets, which is surprising for a new plane. Also, is it just me or is that tray table absolutely tiny?
USB only for plebian class, for some reason outlets are in business only.

Just curious but how do you think china airline compares in price compared to other Asia airlines?
Cause the quality is amazing no doubt but they are not as cheap in comparison to other airlines with lower quality but offers a good price instead.
As in price. Is it similar to ANA, Emirates, Singapore (expensive ones)
Or ethiad, china southern and vietnam airlines (not as expensive)

The official name of Taiwan government is Republic of China that founded in 1911
Republic of China was replaced by People's republic of China 1949,now even people in Taiwan province no longer think republic of China is alive

Great video. The CI logo, livery, decor and in-flight service look great, too. I'd still be very reluctant to fly CI, though. CI's safety record is very bad, and a drawback like that isn't easily or rapidly eliminated, no matter how good the airline might otherwise seem.
They haven't had a crash since they were reformed in the 2000s. Internally they are like a different airline. IMO they have a very good safety record now.
Agree with @t4w1m94. CI is definitely worth a try. They've undergone reform (from the early state-owned to quasi-private market-oriented operation; ex-Air Force pilots to civilian-trained) and have maintained a good safety record for almost 20 years. And yes, CI's in-flight service is fantastic. Quite a few Taiwanese may now prefer CI to EVA in some ways.
