According to Helen Chase’s biog, the date of this is 8th June 1980, not August. Which means it’s late McGeoch! as he left the following July. Anyway thanks, it’s great and more interesting than ‘Play’ I’m thinking.
John is a tad loud in the mix here I think, but what an awesome gig! I'm so happy that a live Magazine concert exists featuring John, that is as good as the recording on Play. Which is one of my favourite albums, but even though Robin Simon does a fantastic job, nothing beats McGeoch on this.
The date of this gig must be the 8th of June 1980. I saw them one day earlier in Velp near Arnhem, The Netherlands. The last gig of John McGeogh with Magazine was on this day, the 8th of June 1980. A monumental day with a tear and lots of loving.
Their finest moment to me. What fabulous band they were. All of them are fantastic musicians.
This set is just gobsmacking. I wish it was twice, three times, ten times the length.
they are all on FIRE on this set. 7:20 ff permafrost solo , slap that bass fretless and McGeoch. Rock me Dostoevsky!
Not fretless, just notes bent to hell!
This recording gives me chills. McGeoch is so inspired.
His last gig with his band.
best band ever
Grappig, die opname heb ik ook nog op cassette. Geweldig optreden.
Just a brilliant recording from a great band thank you
This is brilliant! Thanks for posting
Brilliant, only just found this. Miss the backing vocals on You Never Knew Me.

It's definitely McGeoch, Robin Simon plays different solos on Permafrost and Shot By Both Sides
And URGH. Something weird was happening. Intangible difference.
@@spensert4933 It's also why Devoto disbanded the band in 1981 because he didn't feel the sound was the same afterwards.
Just found out this was his very last gig with Magazine. So it is very special, that it is recorded in such good quality. A great GIFT!
There are not enough superlatives to describe this band live.
a great band that somehow didn't make it in the States. History will remember them.

The dutch did something good now and then. But here: then.
Honestly it's alright that he's a bit loud, usually he's mixed too quiet compared to Dave especially in most live recordings.
Great set this from that tour. Great venue too BTW.
Awesome upload.
John McGeoch a legend

Oh my, wonderful band indeed

MY FAVOURITES
Where can I download this bootleg? It's of high value since McGeoch left soon after this gig.
I can send it to you. Mp3s though.
@@Dadaistics That's fine! Do you need my mail address?
Tremendous!
Like the backing vox on I'm a Party: this track didn't get played much?
