Extraordinary musicians, extraordinary band. One of the pre-eminent post-punk bands along with The Banshees and PiL. Shame Howard's charisma was misinterpreted as arrogance or being 'difficult', I think it hampered their potential to be huge, sales-wise.
MAGAZINE - Chorus, French TV 13th September 1978 (3 Songs) Howard Devoto 20.2.23 1210pm a bit of magazine and then straight over to the Vatican for a 12 am mass.... "can you stay for another drop of win, howard?" "no; i gotta fuck off now i've a mass at 12!" sadly that's the kindda world you wanna live in... the life i was happy to dwell in.
Is it really 13th September 1978? 5:50 it says Vatican fumée noire, obviously meaning black smoke at papal conclave - which could make it either 15th or 16th of October 1978.
Such a brilliant band, John McGeoch is the best guitarist of our generation by miles, Barry Adamson's bass playing is sublime, Dave Formula a wiz on the keys, Doyley (not in this clip, think that's Martin Jackson) a top skin beater, Howard's a great lyricist but an absolute flog :)

@@JJONNYREPP i used to pronounce it as McGock given his Scottish heritage, only found out the real version by watching youtube videos, Magazine only came to Australia once and that was after he joined The Banshees, again when The Banshees came down here it was not long after he got sacked and Robert Smith was on guitar, he toured with PIL but i completely missed that, and seeing that i've never been to any other country i missed seeing him play live altogether, one of my greatest regrets.

Looks like McGeoch is playing a Strat on Give Me Everything
Shame he's mixed so low on it though.

The venue is Théâtre de l'Empire, Paris, France September 13th 1978. The show is Chorus broadcast on 15th October 1978. Hope this helps.
"Vatican : fumée noire" : excellent ! 🤣

I think the drummer is Paul Spencer.
@@peterg8686 It is indeed Paul Spencer drumming here

Paul Spencer should've stayed on longer with them.
Parade sounds raw and lacks of charm and drama… the later live versions were far better, specially on PLAY! Album
RIP John Mcgeoch
More awkward than normal Devoto, terrible start
@@dee_seejay Yes, and I think he was going to do some French language lyrics so I think he was sh*tting himself. That said, good performance overall
