    Extraordinary musicians, extraordinary band. One of the pre-eminent post-punk bands along with The Banshees and PiL. Shame Howard's charisma was misinterpreted as arrogance or being 'difficult', I think it hampered their potential to be huge, sales-wise.

    Is it really 13th September 1978? 5:50 it says Vatican fumée noire, obviously meaning black smoke at papal conclave - which could make it either 15th or 16th of October 1978.

    Such a brilliant band, John McGeoch is the best guitarist of our generation by miles, Barry Adamson's bass playing is sublime, Dave Formula a wiz on the keys, Doyley (not in this clip, think that's Martin Jackson) a top skin beater, Howard's a great lyricist but an absolute flog :)

      MAGAZINE - Chorus, French TV 13th September 1978 (3 Songs) Howard Devoto 1214pm 20.2.23 yeah i liked j mcgeoch, also.. i used to pronounce it magoff. until that banshee woman said it was pronounced mageeoch or some such. can't quite rightly recall. hilarious trynna locate a lip which doesnt feature shot by both sides............................................. p.s i am sure i saw him in manchester the other month looking a bit bemused as some burd traipsed him all over the shop. i did have my camera and film that day, also... damn!!!

    • @joydivisionboy1
      @joydivisionboy1 Год назад +3

      @@JJONNYREPP i used to pronounce it as McGock given his Scottish heritage, only found out the real version by watching youtube videos, Magazine only came to Australia once and that was after he joined The Banshees, again when The Banshees came down here it was not long after he got sacked and Robert Smith was on guitar, he toured with PIL but i completely missed that, and seeing that i've never been to any other country i missed seeing him play live altogether, one of my greatest regrets.

      @@joydivisionboy1 MAGAZINE - Chorus, French TV 13th September 1978 (3 Songs) Howard Devoto 21.2.23 0235am ahahah... seems they, it... magazine, tried to play new zealand and failed. so they say. i thought they live album it released was via a new zealand recording.. .. seems it was mebourne. cant imagine why he got sacked. not as though he was a wild man of rock. or maybe he was? i dunno much about musical groups and their wild ways or who sacked whom or why. maybe he shagged that banshees burd? no; cant say i have toured with a band. something i should do, perhaps. go to every gig???? it'd have to be one of my myriad obscure bands i enjoy else I'd never be able to afford it... hmmmm...no; i aint seen PIL play. and we certainly have missed the good ol days of lydon and co, that's for sure. not that he will like me for suggesting that. old lydon, i mean. old bob with the banshees. didn't he play on the tube with it, with the banshees? or did i dream that??? well, if magazine only visited the antipodean regions once i am surmising that live album i possess, the melbourne gig, is where the recording was lifted - for the band's live album released. it's not a very engaging recording. magazine seemed to have the same sound guys as the smiths - they have no desire to put more bass in the drum monitor or allow the lead guitarist to crank it up a notch. session musician sound engineers, perhaps.. or probably free lance liggers who usually set up for maida vale peel session recordings....?
