This also makes an incredible soup if you do not add the rice and use slightly less water. Thank you so much for this recipe and mesmerizing video.
Dearest Bumbi, I NEVER spent 25 minutes cooking onions and had a good laugh when I heard you say so. I've been wondering for many years why my onions never looked the way I thought they should! Just found your site and everything looks soooo delicious. I can't wait to get started!! Thank you so very much for lovely videos.
Last year, I made this for my meal prep week and I swear I ate it two weeks straight and doubled up on the onions (the best part). I had some fresh dill that I needed to use and added to the "raita" and it was pure perfection! This is a regular part of my meal prep at least once a month. Thank you so much, Bumbi❣
I just watched this video, and knew I HAD to subscribe. You’re the real deal. I’ve been learning how to cook Indian food for the last few years and can’t wait to give your recipes a go! Thank you!
Hello Bumbi, First time on your site, love your soothing voice and presentation style. This recipe sounds and looks so delicious, I can’t wait to try it. Thank you!
This is very similar to how we make it in Cyprus, but traditionally without the vegetables! Beautiful recipe and so charmingly and lovingly presented! Thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH! I have never cooked rice on stove but turned out perfect. I used a canned lentils and more rice and added a bit coconut milk, it's so delicious!!
I have shown the most basic yogurt cucumber side. You can even add some chaat masala or dry roast half a teaspoon of cumin seeds on low heat, crush it and add it.
Thanks to you Bumbi - I don't have to look anywhere else to find delicious recipes - your prep, cooking & seasoning methods are so very healthy and the results is what I want. You have that instinct that works for my sense of how to get the most flavour out of the ingredients. THANKS & much love !

Wonderful recipe with such a beautiful flavour & your clear detailed perfect instructions…..thank you so much. The vegetarian friend I made it for was delighted & so was I 🙏🏻

I'm from the middle east, we cook this dish a lot, I absolutely love it. But, we don't cook it with all those veggies. Just Rice, Lentil, onios, cumin, salt, and water. However, I'll try your recipe, it looks delicious too. One trick we use for caramelizing onions, we sprinkle some flour or corn starch on them before frying.
I used bacon grease to caramelize the onions and added the bacon bits at the end along with the onions. I thought about adding some additional bacon grease instead of ghee, but the clarified butter looked so good on video that I went the extra step of making some to add in. It was delicious!!! Your video and manner of teaching is wonderful.
