I couldn't even begin to describe how much you've added life back into my daily grind through your cuisine, especially during rough times. I'm immeasurably grateful😊
Awesome recipe, simple quick and delicious. My husband was diagnosed with cancer and one of the recommended foods was rice and lentils combined with lean meats. I have been trying to find healthy simple recipes and having stumbled upon this, you got me creative. Please keep posting your ideas as I think your recipes are going to make a difference to my husband’s health during his chemotherapy and subsequent recovery. Sending much love from London UK 🙏🙌
What beautiful video! Clean, efficient kitchen, and lovely soft music as background. Gorgeous! Not to mention the delicious lentil rice recipe, for those of us who love this food. Thank you.
Hi Yeung Man. I have been trying out your recipe for the last two months and they are simply amazing. The variety, consistency and appearance not just on your video but what I am able to produce is just encouraging. I made the aim to cut down meat this year, and with your help, I have been more plant based! Please don’t stop! I look forward to purchasing your book soon! Cheers
Dear Yeung Man, I "love" your recipes! Not only are they delicious, they are nutritious and offer so much variety in taste and texture! Your presentations are beautiful. May I also say your personal Countenance is remarkably appealing! On all levels you have my vote! God Bless you and the service you are doing for all budding vegans and budding cooks! With love and gratitude I heartily submit this!
Love watching your recipes. They are so delicious and therapeutic. I couldn't go past today's recipe without making a comment that this recipe is quite similar to a popular Indian recipe commonly known as 'Khichdi'. Combination of Rice, lentil, vegetables and spices makes it super delicious and super nutritious.
RUclips added this video to my feed. I watched it last night and decided to cook up the recipe. It was amazing! I am working on my new vegan lifestyle for health reasons. Thank you so much for this! Btw, your spice cabinet organization is incredible!!
Your videos are works of multi-media art. The music, the sound and rhythm of your voice, the visual beauty. I watch these as much for that as the recipes.
I am making this for next weeks meal prep. You are going to make me a vegan or at least a vegetarian. I am so into your cooking. And yes the quality of your videos and everything you put into them is just simply outstanding.
cooking is my favourite form of activism, the main thing non-vegans complain about is having no food to eat... all these videos show otherwise! Hopefully you try a lot mroe plant-based :)
@@pbsquilz I plan on trying a lot of plant based meals. I am even wanting to try the tofu recipes he has made. He has made me change my thoughts about tofu, lol
@@meldixon1327 love to hear that haha! As someone who kind of got stuck in a routine of just making either sea bass and rice, or chicken and rice (with veges), I had a lot of new found love for cooking recently when I became vegan and I've definitely just felt happier and healthier eating plant based foods, aside from my moral reasons for veganism.
Absolutely LOVE this dish! I do want to mention for anyone trying this, I Used brown rice & it takes more more liquid than recommended, maybe that and a half. And time wise too, time and a half. Also I double the spices to add more flavor! And I added a bay leaf which topped it off. Super yum!!
My family love this recipe. My grand daughter often takes this to school in thermos for her lunch. Sometimes I sprinkle toasted sesame seed on the top, it takes it another level. Thank you for sharing.
Really relaxing, gentle, yet inspiring to watch. Absolutely beautiful looking food, tutored by an equally lovey soul. Gotta say, I do make this lentil dish, (or a pretty close cousin to it), in my rice cooker, as one of my "go-to" quick dinners. It is always a hit with others who I eat it with. Subbed, and seriously looking at the books to buy.
I love the voice-over on the cooking process. It's not the cheery, bubbly "I'm using all the crap on RUclips that I learned waiting tables to maximize my tips!!" thing. It's like a professional intel analyst commenting on the feed from a spy camera, if spy cameras were used for stealing other countries' best recipes.
I made this for dinner tonight. I thank you from the bottom of my heart so so delicious. This recipe is definitely something I can see making very often. Love your cookbook everything looks and is so delicious. I enjoy watching your videos. You don’t over talk them to death. You get right to the point and let the food speak for itself I appreciate that. Thank you again. Looking forward to owning all of your cook books.
Your passion for food preparation is contagious! Thank you for the quality presentation and heart you infuse into each recipe video. Always worth the watch!
This is definitely not the Rice-A-Roni from my childhood. I can’t wait to try this recipe. I love the whole presentation and vibe of your this video. Being a photographer and having worked as a sous chef and caterer I really appreciate that you don’t jam through a recipe. You make this an actual experience. This is probably the best find of the day. I’m always searching for easy delicious, healthy, vegan options.
I used to love Rice-A-Roni, the San FranCisco treat, growing up as a child. Little did I realize one serving gave you like a 2 day portions worth of salt.
I've cooked it for lunch today. Delicious! I topped it with some fried tofu just to add some extra protein and grilled zucchini, just because it's zucchini session now. Thank you for this perfect one-pan recipe! Tofu and zucchini was prepared in the same pan and set aside till the lentil was cooked. I would never ever destroy a one-pot dish 🙂
This is an amazing recipe, and you made me drool! I love your videos. You work cleanly and methodically. You speak clearly, purposefully and your gentle voice gives a meditative feel to cooking. I've been cooking some of your recipes, and I just love them!
Love the inspiration I find here! With all the fresh ingredients I was surprised this one fell a little short. I served with super easy homemade peach chutney thankfully I had on hand which brought it to a 10 for us. Next time I’ll add some slivered almonds for texture. Thank you Will!
Hi, there!!!! Just watching your video and you can't imagine how I felt when heard the name "Portugal" mentioned🤗!!!!! So, so proud, as a Portuguese citizen. Love your recipes! Also, the tone of your voice and the calm approach to what you do are other main reasons why I like watching you so much. Best of luck!
At the beginning of Covid I started making your plant based ramen recipes. Few months later I turned vegan, which was the best decision of my life. Your videos played an integral role because the recipes are delicious and your way of making the videos is very calming. Thank you very mich Wil. Still a big fan of your videos. Best wishes from Germany
That looks so yummy and easy to make. I can think of so many spring veggies to serve as sides with this dish. Local potteries are a great source of unique serving dishes that also support small business owners.
I saw this today , I watched, I wrote the recipe, cooked it and it’s delicious. I put very warm water over lentils to speed up the softening. Thank you. So flavorful!!! The lemon is perfect.
Thank you for sharing your plateware with us. I love how your food looks in the bowls you use...actually Iove how all your food is plated up. Thank you!!
As a diabetic, I will substitute brown basmati rice. Because it takes longer to cook, I will either use leftover rice or first cook it for 10 minutes less than fully done. I do love the variety of tasty foods featured by this talented man. I could listen to him talk all day
You could try just soaking the rice and then cooking everything together. Maybe not 8 hrs like the lentils, but an hour or two. That should definitely help.
Get Laxmi Basmati Rice at a Indian store it’s diabetic friendly I believe a 51 on the GI index, it’s delicious I use that rice not because I’m diabetic but because, I eat low GI foods.
Will, you are sooo creative. I wonder how you get inspired to come up with these dishes. And the fact that you’re a photographer doesn’t hurt either. You sure know how to make your dishes look so irresistible!
While I’ve never considered following a completely plant-based diet-this…could change my mind. Such a tasteful delivery (no pun intended). From the music to the visual elegance and even your speaking cadence, I was mesmerized. Thank you 🙏🏻
Made this today and it's so good!! I added fresh lemon and parsley as directed and I had some cashew crema, so added a plop of that too. YUM!! Would be good with vegan yogurt, too. Really delicious simple one pot meal. Thank you Yeung Man! I am obsessed!!
Thank you Chef, this was a fantastic experience. It probably wasn't even needed, but since I had some leftovers I added some chorizo just before the lentils - the extra flavour and oil added a whole extra layer of flavour and nutrition to this already excellent meal. I look forward to having this delicious (and easy) meal again and again over many years,
Wil, I’ve repeatedly watched your videos so many times and I’m so thankful for your channel. The artistry is phenomenal, the food, exquisite. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Wil, tonight I finally made and thoroughly enjoyed this recipe. Delicious!! The squeeze of lemon juice at serving was on point. Thank you for sharing ❤️
2nd time coming back to make this recipe/video. I’m a big fan of legume/rice based recipes especially with how affordable they are, and I love how comforting this combination of flavors in the dish is with the tang of lemon!! I plan to try some more of your recipes in the future.
I'm new to your channel. I appreciate the way you present your recipe: Calm, to the point, deliberate movements, not rushed, and respectful. Thank you! Your recipes are outstanding and I can't wait to get my signed copy of Cooking with confidence.
Just subscribed today. I am subscribed to a number of cooking channels, but the way you conduct your show is so relaxing and enjoyable. I will check your other videos. This lentil rice looks truly delicious. Cheers!!
Well, this showed up in my RUclips feed and it sounded like a good recipe. Rather than just skipping to the written instructions and ignoring the video like I normally do, I was immediately drawn in by the almost meditative quality of the video - the music, your soothing voice, the entire cooking process were all so relaxing yet compelling. I hadn't planned on a trip to the grocery today, but I'm going to get the couple of ingredients I'm lacking and make this delicious-sounding (and looking) dish. Thank you!
That looks and sounds absolutely fabulous, and I'm going to have to make it very soon! I truly appreciate the way you make your videos, Mr. Yeung; you don't talk constantly throughout, but just enough to help your viewers know what to do, and you speak so gently and quietly, with that lovely low key music in the background---well, for me it's like watching a beautifully choreographed dance, of sorts. Such a refreshing change from cooking videos where someone uses "flash and dazzle" techniques, along with almost nonstop talking, to keep their viewers engaged. You don't need any of that, and I appreciate it very much. Your beautiful, yet simple food presentation does the talking for you.
We have a similar recipe called khichri, which is usually eaten when a person has an upset stomach. So the local version doesn’t have a lot of chilli powder but a lot of cooling whole spices such as green cardamom, fennel seed, salt and some black pepper. The spicier version is eaten as a regular dish which is accompanied with a yoghurt side and some pickle and pappadom.
I'm partially Arabian and find this dish to be very comforting. The video presentation is beyond professional! Those plastic containers you keep all of your spices in! I need those! I have a small eat in kitchen to work with. So it should be a fun challenge organizing spices, herbs, self canned goods, and fermentations. You just got me excited about this dish and I can't wait to cook it in my kitchen. Oh, btw I subscribed and I'm following 🙂
Thanks for your recepie and clear, unhurried delivery. Rice and lentils combine to produce a perfect balance of amino acids essential to health. So, this dish has it all: flavour, health, nutrition and economy.
NYC would love your natural, wholesome and scrumptious dishes in a restaurant. Your simplistic, unassuming and well-guided recipes are the next best thing. You brought healthy eating to a whole new level of joy! Thank you for your exceptional guidance!
the complete opposite of his "I want to get to know you better" scale ! 4:29 - THAT is the cupboard of GEEKNESS squared. and the reason this guy is single.
Where I come from we have a similar dish called mjaddarah.. We cook the lentils and the rice together. In another pan, we cook onion slices with carrots and green peppers in olive oil and squeeze a lemon on top once they're done.. It's quite delicious 😊
My Lebanese Australian aunt used to make “judderah” as we knew it. She always served it with her crispy fried fish, freshly caught. God I miss it, and her.
Hannah, my body is not a fan of broccoli so I like he idea of changing up the broccolini to the carrots, peppers. Do you use the same spices shown in the video or different ones? Thanks.
Wow! Can't wait to make this today - it's perfect for our family and looks absolutely delicious. Thank you for your high quality production value and your creative, yummy, healthy, well-written/communicated/descriptive comments. You are truly appreciated. Peace.🙏🏽👍🏽👊🏽
The lentil and rice dish was great, I did it as the recipe which was delicious, but when I made it again I included a couple of additions, a tad of white miso and reduced the amount of veg stock bouillon, I’m in a miso phase and I buried a few frozen blocks of spinach, whilst the pot rested after cooking which added more colour and more nutrition, both ways are winners. I am really enjoying this new calming channel discovery 🙏 thank you.
Thank you for putting taste into plant based ideas, that my family and I never thought we would be able to endure. We are rounding the corner on healthier options and home cooked meals that are fresh, tasteful and enjoyable making due to finding your channel! Thank you for you hard work creating uncomplicated food. 🎉
Thank you, Mr. Yeung, for this outstanding recipe that is now going into my regular rotation! An added benefit is that it’s vegan, which just widens its appeal to those seeking a healthier diet. I followed your instructions to the letter, with the exception of substituting jasmine for basmati rice (only because I didn’t have the latter on hand. The result was perfection! I would be interested in your advice for using brown basmati in this recipe.
Just made this dish... absolutely love it! Didn't have any parsley so used fresh coriander. The lemon juice makes it sing!! This is on my 'favourites' list. Many thanks for this more-ish recipe 👍
This looks delicious, will definitely try it. Never put lemon on the rice before but looks good. I also cook the lentil with bulgur (cracked wheat), tomatoes, saute onions and a tablespoonful of tomato paste. It is absolutely fantastic and very healthy, of course. Thank you for your video. I will be following you.
This is called Khichdi. Indian recepie. We in India have many variation of this recepie. This is very healthy food. Feeling happy to see our old age food finally getting recognition. 😋
Easy instead of rice use broken thin spaghetti more delicious with bit of olive oil at the end and chilli 🌶 Italian recipe once lentil full cooked add extra water when boil boil add the pasta salt till al dente enjoy
Always on the lookout for tasty renditions of lentils and rice (made some delicious cabbage rolls recently, half lentils and rice, half buckwheat with added crispy fried onions in both). Yours here looks mouth-watering. Your background music (and photography) make your already delicious recipe videos into art pieces, confirmed only by the fact that they are vegan. Thank you.
Just made this and my kitchen smells devine!! Love lentils and rice so was excited to see this recipe. Loved that I prepped everything, it all went together easily and had minimal clean up in my kitchen. Loved adding the lemon and parsley...Will be a regular in my kitchen!!...thank you for sharing!!
I loved this recipe. I made a mega batch and froze portions.. One of the tastiest, healthy, filling but light, bowls for a quick meal on its own or as part of a larger meal. A great staple to have on standby and one you can add your own touches to for variety.
In India we cook this similar dish named "Masoor pulao". However the proportion of rice : lentil is slightly different. We use 60% rice and 40% lentils. Great style of showing your recipe, Mr. Man. Thank you.
It's called Mujaddara, originally we made it with Freekeh before importing indian basmati rice became the norm in the 12-13th century. Lentils/Dhal food for the "poor" and so delicious.
I made this last night. I feel like Super Woman! Not just because I made it but bc it tastes so unbelievably healthy. I ate it for breakfast and plan to eat the rest for dinner. A million thanks for this, YMC🥰
I agree delicious my boss love it I cooked right away when I've done watching this ..when I served I'm nervious hahaha to their comments hahaha but I was surprise when they it's amazing Soo yummy ...ooohhlay ...hahaha nice food
OMG! I feel like I finally found the style of food I'm looking to cook because of the simplicity, the ingredients, and the vegan options. I'm pretty clumsy in the kitchen but this looks manageable to me. I would love if you make a video giving a shopping list of ingredients that you usually do. Spices, and more. Thank you 🌸
This looks so yummy, hearty and delicious. It looks pretty easy to make, too, which is right up my alley. Another one to try and soon! You're a gifted cook. Thanks for sharing.
I look forward to adding this variation to my repertoire. As a vegan living in the south of France for the past fifteen years, lentils are a staple in my diet. Thank you.
Oh my goodness! This tastes WONDERFUL! A perfect dish after a cold afternoon digging out from a snowstorm. I forgot to soak my lentils the night before. Instead, I started everything on the stove and then transferred it to my Instant Pot for 14 minutes. Perfect!!
Definitely going to try this one. You had me at the squeeze of lemon juice. I would have used finely chopped spring onion instead of the parsley but that's just my schtick. Love your work
I can hardly wait to try this!!! As soon as I use up a few things (we’re living in a trailer temporarily - little storage) and get some newer herbs and spices, it’s DEFINITELY going on the menu. Seeing what goes into it, it may just become a favorite.
Even though your description was outstanding (as always), when I made it today I got to experience the truly flavorful beauty of this dish. Sometimes I can't easily find the ingredients living here in Vietnam but this one was easy and so tasty.
I still want to know what's in the boxes? I love the cupboard-organised system. And as an update, I have just made this today but with mixed lentils "Lovely"

Wow, you are too kind and it is my pleasure to be cooking together. Keep well and happy cooking 👨🏻🍳🙌🏻
I hope it works Kristina.🍊
Now that is some serious organizational skill! Those cupboards Wow!
Cheers
I'm much the same. Mine never look quite as good but I put it down to the Australian ingredients 🤣
Beautifully presented.
Love your cooking...Very Proffessional.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I approve this message!!!
Actually in my house we making same recipe called dalcha rice
Your recipe is delicious.. your presenting de vídeo I feel it very neat❤❤❤ thank You
I just found your channel and love how you present the clear instructions and cooking. Love your spice cabinet, too.
🙌🏻🥳👨🏻🍳
I appreciate your gentle yet methodical way to cooking. Your passion is palpable and I can't get enough of your videos. Thank you for sharing.
RUclips added this video to my feed. I watched it last night and decided to cook up the recipe. It was amazing! I am working on my new vegan lifestyle for health reasons. Thank you so much for this! Btw, your spice cabinet organization is incredible!!
👨🏻🍳🙌🏻🥳
Not for the animals?
@@suzyvegalicious5646 What a rude and naive comment 😑
@@onomeokurume9772 really? Why?
@@suzyvegalicious5646 because there are no bad reasons for going vegan, jeez.
Your videos are works of multi-media art. The music, the sound and rhythm of your voice, the visual beauty. I watch these as much for that as the recipes.
Oh wow! That of very kind of you 🤗
I love your organised spice collection!!! Definitely will make it.
Cheers!
@@meldixon1327 his bulgogi is delicious, it's a particular favourite of mine. You should try it 😋🤤
Not only does the food look delicious but I love everything about this channel. Informative, relaxed and classy. I'm here for it!
Thank you.

@@YEUNGMANCOOKING Question can I use red, green lentils in this dish?
Absolutely LOVE this dish!
I do want to mention for anyone trying this,
I Used brown rice & it takes more more liquid than recommended, maybe that and a half. And time wise too, time and a half. Also I double the spices to add more flavor! And I added a bay leaf which topped it off.
Super yum!!
Kind of you to share 🙌🏻 and sounds great!
So relaxing. And the music. Heaven.
🙌🏻😊
This is definitely not the Rice-A-Roni from my childhood. I can’t wait to try this recipe. I love the whole presentation and vibe of your this video. Being a photographer and having worked as a sous chef and caterer I really appreciate that you don’t jam through a recipe. You make this an actual experience. This is probably the best find of the day. I’m always searching for easy delicious, healthy, vegan options.
I used to love Rice-A-Roni, the San FranCisco treat, growing up as a child. Little did I realize one serving gave you like a 2 day portions worth of salt.
I love traditional Lebanese Mujadara, but this recipe is so good and has become my new favorite dish. Thanks Wil!
Yum! Great and delicious additions 🙌🏻😎👨🏻🍳
Great idea! It looks like a great base recipe too that you can add what you like.
Great idea for me to steal from you. Thank you for posting!😊
Thank sounds absolutely perfect! Yummm
Do you cook the rice before adding it to the lentils?
Your presentation and delivery is so calm. May other tubers learn from you . Thank you
This is an amazing recipe, and you made me drool! I love your videos. You work cleanly and methodically. You speak clearly, purposefully and your gentle voice gives a meditative feel to cooking. I've been cooking some of your recipes, and I just love them!
🤗
That recipe is one of my favourite ❤ sometimes I add salmon chunks and dried 🍅!!! It’s sooo tasty !!!! Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷!!!!
It is a pleasure cooking together and happy to hear you are enjoying ☺️🙌🏻 Keep well and happy cooking
Me too became vegan at the onset of covid. And Yeung's oven baked tofu pulled me over the edge.
I’ll make this on Thursday. Also, I LOVE your spice cabinet!
RIGHT?
I can only imagine how good it feels to have cabinet like that before the kids turn it upside down and inside out😂😂😂😂
One of my favourite dishes I make! I'm glad you made a version of it. I can't wait to try your version.
🥳🥳🥳
My wife is making this tonight for dinner and I can't wait to try it. Thanks, Wil!
Woooo! Sounds amazing 🙌🏻🥳
That looks so yummy and easy to make. I can think of so many spring veggies to serve as sides with this dish. Local potteries are a great source of unique serving dishes that also support small business owners.
🙌🏻🥳👨🏻🍳
I saw this today , I watched, I wrote the recipe, cooked it and it’s delicious. I put very warm water over lentils to speed up the softening. Thank you. So flavorful!!! The lemon is perfect.
🥳🥳🥳
@@julieprice199 And no doubt much cheaper to buy than rice from a big supermarket chain.
Will, you are sooo creative. I wonder how you get inspired to come up with these dishes. And the fact that you’re a photographer doesn’t hurt either. You sure know how to make your dishes look so irresistible!
I love how peaceful you make cooking 🎉❤ I’m trying it tonight ❤

I liked deep plate to eat in, not shallow ones
While I’ve never considered following a completely plant-based diet-this…could change my mind. Such a tasteful delivery (no pun intended). From the music to the visual elegance and even your speaking cadence, I was mesmerized. Thank you 🙏🏻
😎🙌🏻🥳
Omg, this and a side of sauteed veggies or a huge salad, heaven! 💚
Yep, I will make it with a side of spinach or green salad!
I'm making this one next weekend! My FAV is Single pan Sautes! Thank you for supporting my Vegan diet w/another great meal!
🥳🥳🥳
Made this today and it's so good!! I added fresh lemon and parsley as directed and I had some cashew crema, so added a plop of that too. YUM!! Would be good with vegan yogurt, too. Really delicious simple one pot meal. Thank you Yeung Man! I am obsessed!!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I do love the way you take the time to make cooking a process! Just beautiful.

It’s heavy for night time best for lunch
2nd time coming back to make this recipe/video. I’m a big fan of legume/rice based recipes especially with how affordable they are, and I love how comforting this combination of flavors in the dish is with the tang of lemon!! I plan to try some more of your recipes in the future.
So great to hear 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Looked like he lived alone?
Spices well organized 👏 👌 👍
See I am not the only person who loves your spice cabinet.
And you're presentation.
Very well done.

Where I come from we have a similar dish called mjaddarah.. We cook the lentils and the rice together. In another pan, we cook onion slices with carrots and green peppers in olive oil and squeeze a lemon on top once they're done.. It's quite delicious 😊
mujadarra! +1
I do think he is doing mjaddra with a twist of tomatoes lol
My Lebanese Australian aunt used to make “judderah” as we knew it. She always served it with her crispy fried fish, freshly caught. God I miss it, and her.

My sister and I made this for dinner tonight and we loved it!! Thanks so much for sharing, Will!

Not ideal for dinner too heavy
Better for lunch
I just made this dish and its amazing. I used garam masala instead of just cumin and its really the best dish I've ever prepared :)

🥳🥳🥳
Do you cook the rice before adding with lentils ?
This looks delicious, will definitely try it. Never put lemon on the rice before but looks good. I also cook the lentil with bulgur (cracked wheat), tomatoes, saute onions and a tablespoonful of tomato paste. It is absolutely fantastic and very healthy, of course. Thank you for your video. I will be following you.
The lemon really makes it!
