Personally I think “Digimon worlds DS” is the best choice for first time Digimon fans. It’s the prequel to dusk and dawn and champions ds. It actually explains how to play and had a lot less grinding than champions and dusk. It is a lot more in-depth battle system and is a small enough change for Pokémon fans to enjoy it. To my understanding Digimon ds fans wanted a harder game so they made champions then they wanted it even harder so they made dawn and dusk. Not the prime game to start out with tbh.

@@JoordyDreaming I mentioned this when I made a comment on jaidens video but, the 3 codes you get in the first area can help you breeze through up till mid gold tamer which is a decent way through the story then you are already set up so you should have strong Digimon to replace the dot Digimon. Personally I went with guilamon line, Greymon line, and seadramon line. But I can see it being a bit of a hassle if you don’t use the codes.

@@RayquazaBath I mean I don’t disagree. But in the case of jaidens situation I would still go with ds. Also I liked the mechanics in ds with the 5 slots and attack patterns. But that’s just me. You could defeat all Digimon without giving them a chance to hit if you strategized right. But the digivolve menu I will admit is abismal. Mainly because I leveled up my metal Greymon in a vanilla ds game. Then I still couldn’t get Omnimon because it was locked behind trading/online features. That’s the only real gripe I had with ds. But it was so minimal it really didn’t matter much to me because there were plenty of other Digimon I could evolve I also liked guilmon’s mega form because it was reliant on game play time which I found to be a cool touch.

Cyber Sleuth eases the player a lot more into its systems and actually establishes its world in a decent manner.

I will defend the game a bit here. Yes the encounters and level design are extreme, but the battle and digivolution mechanics are great. Battles are really fun as they incorporate some tactical decision making. You have to make choices about attacks based on which squares they hit in the battle, and how far back in turn order the attack puts you. It does a lot to spice up battles. I think digivolution was also fun, if a little overtuned in some areas. You have to get certain stats and types of experience. That usually happened as you progressed through the game, but some had moderate walls that you had to overcome if you wanted to get a certain digivolution early. There were definitely a lot of digivolutions that required too much though. Overall the games are fun if you’re prepared for a more hardcore experience, and I understand they’re not really for everyone. I do still love the games though.

In Pokemon, the monsters are natural creatures like regular animals IRL. It makes sense. She wants to know what the Digimon equivalent is. Saying they're digital monsters doesn't cut it. Are they naturally occuring creatures in a digital world? Is there a non-digital world like the Megaman Battle Network/Starforce games and they were created by humanity? If not, where exactly do humans fit in? How is it possible for the biological and artificial to exist in different states in the same world?
I think this is what she meant and from the perspective of someone that knows nothing of Digimon, it's a valid question.

I can do better on the whole name thing. Anyone who knows Japanese knows that each sound/letter in their alphabet is composed of a consonant sound and a vowel sound. So in each single letter space, they are fitting in the equivalent of two English letters. So for them, a space of five letters is actually plenty for them. They can get Kudasuyoshi out of that space (not that that's an actual name, but you get my point). So when the game was localized, they didn't (or rather, couldn't) alter things to add more letters for names in other languages. Something to do with how the memory in the game works...I wish I was more knowledgeable about it to explain it in better detail. But...I digress...The naming thing was not made with anyone other than the Japanese in mind. Hell, naming your character in Pokemon Blue and Red had similar limitations.
To be fair to Jaiden, it isn't necessarily her fault she thought Digimon was similar to Pokemon. When Digimon came out, it was marketed as if it was similar to Pokemon. That's how advertising works; you try to make it appeal to the widest audience possible, often using the broadest or most general truths available, regardless if it gives people the wrong impression, because what matters is if the product you are advertising sells. And in Digimon's case, Pokemon was already extremely popular at the time. So the marketing team made it seem like Digimon was similar to Pokemon in marketing in the hopes of riding on Pokemon's coattails and bankrolling on Pokemon's explosive popularity. That being said, I remember a lot of people thinking Digimon was just an imitator and ignoring it as a result, so I guess that instead of riding the blast, Digimon just got caught in the initial explosion and took damage instead. Whoops...! Don't trust commercials and advertisments, kids!

If you haven't played it, I'd recommend giving it a chance, especially if you played and enjoyed Legends Arceus, and *double* especially if you played and hated Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (that might seem counter intuitive given that Platinum was a sister game to Diamond and Pearl, but trust me, the additions and changes Platinum made were a WORLD of difference).

@Rage Kage "it's literally a bad story and the characters are the most bland of all"
Hop going through an entire character arc revolving around questioning his own worth, Piers, Marnie and Team Yell desperately attempting to breath some life into their home, Team Star being cast as the villains when they were the victims of bullying (which is a sort of event I've seen play out in real life, albeit not on such a large scale), Arven being put through the emotional wringer with his entire life, Grusha having a drastic change of outlook after an accident forced him to give up something important to him, Lilly and Gladion struggling to deal with the fallout of their abusive mother's actions (at least before USUM butchered that story line and added a few gaping plot holes), Kamado needing to be saved from a self destructive path that he went down out of desperation to protect his people, and Volo being pushed to the point of madness through the hardships of his past all beg to differ. Pokemon's story telling is more subtle than in other games, but that doesn't mean it's bad or that the characters are bland. I love a story that gets me to think and analyze and look for more pieces of the story (especially when that analysis is directed towards characters), and pokémon does just that. Older pokémon games weren't as well written because they put so much focus on the evil teams, which more often than not felt like very flat villains (with the exception of Team Plasma; they had some pretty thought-provoking story going on), but more recent games have turned to more character driven narratives, which has lead to lovable and memorable characters. I'll be honest; before Sword and Shield, I struggled to remember the names of most gym leaders (with the only exceptions being the ones that were note worthy, like Giovanni, who was story relevant, or Whitney who was just kinda made into a meme for being so obnoxious to battle). But more recent games have given a level of life and personality to the characters that actually makes them stick in my mind now. If you asked me to name all the regional gym leaders for any gen before Sword and Shield, I genuinely don't think I could do it. But after Sword and Shield, I could probably name the majority of them, if not the entirety of them, which I think is a true testament to how good they've gotten at making memorable characters. Honestly I can't comprehend people who don't like the stories in pokémon, because it's truly some phenomenal stuff, especially in how they deliver some of it. Like, every story's got it's exposition, but pokémon's mastered some creative ways of delivering story with significantly less of it; whether it's being able to read character journals, involving pokémon to imply certain things by using what the player already knows about that pokémon through pokédex entries, set dressings, or more recently using flashbacks, pokémon's genuinely got some really good story telling, especially in more recent games. They just take a different angle to story telling that requires a bit more effort and thought to get a clear picture, and I personally love it. So much better than stories that beat you over the head with their point (you wanna talk about a pokémon game that *actually* has bad writing, I still haven't finished Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon because the degree to which they shove the message down your throat is just so overwhelmingly obnoxious, and it takes forever for anything even slightly important to truly get going).

1:55 I'd actually Sun and Moon actually WAS the last good mainline Pokemon game (if you don't count Legends as a mainline game, because that blew it out of the park).
Sun and Moon had Novel deviations from the Gym Leader challenge. A unique twist on the 'evil team'. Solid cut scene animations. A good roster of new Pokemon. The introduction of regional variants. Ride Pokemon doing away with HM Slaves. It had a good plot and good characters. A lot of great new innovations that sparked the franchise.
Sure, Ultra S&M was a quick carbon copy ripoff with little additions, but the new plot wasn't bad, and did a good job to smooth over some old plot holes.

Having played close to a half dozen different Digimon games over the years. While I enjoy the franchise the number of ones which were memorable and well-designed experiences versus the ones that found the janky and inconsistent in quality over the lifespan of Digimon games. Unfortunately, leaned towards the latter in my opinion and considering what the popularity of the franchise is more based off of in comparison to say a franchise like pokémon which primary focus was towards the video game. In all 100% fairness. I love the Digimon Dusk/Dawn games. HOWEVER. They are hard as all fuck. I noticed she didn't have any Digimon in her farm, which is part of the fun. If you're going straight through ONLY raising your starter Digimon you're going to be bored out of your mind. The reason spawn rates are super high and why they're mazes is you're expected to raise multiple Digimon as well as multiple farms. Your Digimon in the farm would appear on the top screen and talk to you and you can watch them train. It's very much a precursor to Cyber Sleuth which fixes essentially all the issues in Dusk/Dawn by toning down the sheer size of mazes (a little too much IMHO) and making Digivolution a LOT more streamlined. In Dusk/Dawn the Digivolution tree is fairly limited. I can't just start off with Koromon and end up getting any Digimon out of it from enough evolution and de-evolution. You have essentially one path that splits on occasion and you HAVE to have the proper stats to do it, which of course are gained from training on the farm, evolution/de-evolution, and friendship levels.
Dusk/Dawn are basically Stockholm Syndrome the game. As a Digimon fan in the early 2000s we had barely anything gamewise so we sucked it up and played it.
I specifically remember it was a nightmare to get Lucimon (which to this day is a favorite). You had to raise Devimon and Angemon to a specific level and I think they had to have specific stats before you could DNA Digivolve them into Lucimon.
So. I love the game because I'm a Digimon masochist.

i used to remember the correct routes in all the dark pokemon caves because I didn’t know that you could use any non hm move in the overworld… also i didn’t speak any English at all so there was no guides I could use, I had to learn the layouts by trial and error

I'm a fan of both franchises as I grew up in the 90s so playing the PSP Digimon Aventure fan translation was a great nostalgic playthrough. I even have videos of me playing it on my channel

Digimon World Dawn was the first digimon game I almost finished. But, I soft locked on the final boss by saving right before it and you can't go backwards after entering the boss area and I found that it was much stronger than me.

8:12 Those are all their *english* names though. TK’s name in the Japanese version is Takeru, which is more than 4 letters. And so is Tai’s Japanese name, Taichi. And Matt’s: Yamato

He's not that wrong. In most cases Digimon are have a way to resurrect after death like the Village of Beginnings. But that's where a plenty of nuances come into play.

The funny thing is I've been looking recently to try Cyber Sleuth and when Jaiden said it wasn't what she was looking for I tought "WTF! It's the best pokemon-like digimon game XD"
