This reminds me of when they performed this song in 1988 for "In the round In your face", when it had Joe using the keyboard for bass, and Rick Savage using an acoustic guitar at the end.
@@drby0788 Disgusting may be the wrong word. Disappointing for sure. He's settled for being Joe and Phil's lap dog, for 31 years. He just sits in the pocket, making money fitting in, but never stands out. Phil Collen is a wonderful guitar player, but Vivian is capable of embarrassing him, but never does. All they do is throw away pop drivel, now. It's not terrible music, but is completely forgettable. You'll never forget anything off those first 4 records, will you ? Big difference. Hysteria was a very good record, but like Metallica's black album, it also ruined them, at the same time. Fame does that to rock bands.
We all know Vivian isn't Steve, but OMFG,the man was awesome on this intro!! He plays very differently, far more disciplined, but this was simply EPIC!!! Def Leppard, Forever. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o now.
Dude Vivian is just as good as Steve. Don't be fooled..that guy laid down some badass riffs of his own..of course him playing someone else's work isn't going to be as good as the original..just like Steve playing Vivians older stuff wouldn't sound right either.
This possibly the best live version with vivian on steves parts . other then joe missing the cue to go i do believe this to be the best live ever of gods of war
He recorded most of the sparkle lounge using a Squier Telecaster that cost about $150. The PC1 is the best guitar ive ever played, all Fenders and Gibsons rolled into one guitar.
If Viv wrote all of the intro here, would say the second part of it starting at 3 01 and not including obviously into GOW, is his best work and very Leppard.
absolutely man I wish turn back time and see Vivian Phil and Steve together ....like maiden nowadays ..Def Leppard can work with 3 guitars .... like GNR on chinese democracy times too ..... Hopefully Def Leppard will play with Phil Viv and Pete Willis together as a band in the future
You know, Vivian is good! There is no doubt about it. But it had something missing And for me that was Steve. However we can't go comparing all the time because things are as they should have been unfortunately. And I think that Steve would have wanted things to go on this way judging by some of the interviews. But I'm sure Vivian knew he was gonna run into some people comparing. Me being one of them but definitely not insulting him. Good job dude!!
@jasebrown46 I'm not sure if it was his stick or someother part of his kit went flying - connecting rod or something...didn't affect his sound though!!
@bonfirejovi if hes much better. then why haven't they been able to make music worth shit since hes died. NO balls. He was the genius. Hes the "riff master"

My favorite Leppard song. But DAMN!!! Vivs intro solo, holy shit!! That was epic.
I say that was the only good part of this live performance. Literally everything else was a mistake and should be ashamed of.
What a best improvise intro ever for Def !!
Man...The intro...The hope.....And then.......SLANG. The man has been neutered as a player, for nearly 30 years.
Yeah man. He's a disgusting player and many people have either forgotten or don't realize

love how part of this was used as the opening of the sparkle lounge tour :D
A storming epic of a song, may Def Leppard rule forever
At 3:01 Viv starts playing what is currently their opening music for their picture collage...THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW!!!! I love it.......
Damn that was badass
Vivian campbell 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is one of my favorite songs! I would love to see them put it back in the lineup, maybe for us die hard fans!!! HINT HINT
Fantastic in 2021-------------just as it was in '88, & '92. -------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
God damn, they should let him off the leash more often
damn, the lightshow was spectacular. AMAZING!!
They did this same tune on the 7 day weekend tour at Sheffield Arena in June 1992
Long lead into Gods of War, but worth it,, Ty Vivian Campbell! You made my day! :)
Vivian is a fantastic guitarist and this video is great proof for that!

Long live Steve Clark
ufff este man tok como los que realmente saben!!!!
+Joe didn't miss the cue his mic went out it looks.
vivian did this solo almost the same way he did when he was with whitesnake in 87
Even when he was with Dio to he did the same thing in 1983
Far best live version I've heard of this song and yes Brian Kirk Viv's solo was epic. Sad though that Joe missed his cue.
+Jenny Gail totally agree with you
He didn’t miss it. The mike fucked it
Joes never missed a cue in his life PA fucked out for a second Wireless in its infantry back then
So sorry I never took note before..This is one fine guitarist! Vivian Campbell, was it?
Is phil playing a gibson? no wayy
@patoheavy
yeah exactly right steve is alot better than people ever thought
I think he is playing it to represent Steve

Vivian, you're awesome!!!

To anyone reading this comment, I really need some guidance for this solo before the song starts. It’s tough to learn by ear
Indeed, he played soem gibsons while in the band Girl ... before leppard.
Vivian is playing an Tom Anderson Guitar
no it is VIVIAN who is playing
@jasebrown46 I'm not sure if it was his stick or someother part of his kit went flying - connecting rod or something...didn't affect his sound though!!
This may have been filmed with a potato but at least the sound is listenable
Thumbs up if you think Rick lost his drumstick at 6:24
Right, but don't forget before he played Jackson guitars he played Ibanez, right
no but phil collen's playing a gibson. thats rare for him.
