Subscribed to your channel now and great review/comparisons. Like that its a fair review with us newbies trying to make a decision on an expensive hobby. You really helped me a new buyer so decided to stick with the OM-MK1 directly from OM System. With their discounts , I have ordered 3 pro lenses (12-40mm F2/8, 40-150mm F2/8 and 90mm Macro all for £3480 vs OM1- MK2 which works out to great deal and more than £1000 cheaper.

Thanks Stewart!!!...I bought my OM-1 Mark II last month after shooting Canon for 28 years, I do not regret the decision at all. I shoot mostly macro but have used it for bird photography and landscape and I love the camera and all the settings and useful additions like ND, Starry Sky, Focus Bracketing, Focus Tracking, etc. The focus peaking is great for my aging eyes when shooting macro. It's all good!!!
A top notch camera and lens IMHO. Love it!!!!

Very nice comparison video! I upgraded from EM1.3 to OM1.1 because I need the AF and subject recognition. Was thinking of upgrading one of my OM1.1 to OM1.2 but decided against it. My buddy got OM1.2 to compliment his R5 so I got first hands experience comparison for what I shoot, mostly wildlife, family and sport. Anyhow, you are clearly super talented with those beautiful macro images. Cheers.

Great video Stewart and very timely as I am about to invest in the OM system after being away from photography for a number of years. I know a lot of people are against the MFT system due to its small sensor but for me it ticks all the boxes in terms of weight, size, cost of pro lenses so will be investing in the OM1 MK2, 12-40 2.8 pro and the 90 2.8 macro lens. Providing my interest in the hobby continues then we’ll see about something with longer reach for a touch of wildlife in the future. Loving your channel👍

    Hi Stewart
Excellent video as always. I fully agree.
I own two Oly, the EM1mkIII and the Om1mkI. I use the first one for macro, landscape and street with immense satisfaction, while the latter only for BIF. I got it used, I keep the 300/4+1,4x with tripod or PanaLeica 100-400 on a walk. It works just fine. The OM1mkII has some improvements, but they are not worth the price in my opinion. I'm happy with it!

Earlier this year I got the OM-5 as a second camera for macro work, because I did have money to burn but not enough for the om1. And I am glad I got this one. Even if it has the older sensor, menu etc, it works great! I do not use it for anything else then macro.

Focusbracketing: The OM1 m1 goes to 1/100 with flash but 1/250 without flash. Usable when shooting in bright sunlight ( but use mostly flash…).
For butterfly’s in flight (pre-capture actually) I’m missing the “insect subject recognition” so use “bird recognition” instead…
Mixed results…works sometimes depending on the butterfly or insect…
An update could help here, please !!!
But indeed have the OM1 m1 and won't upgrade

  • @Juni41
    @Juni41 3 месяца назад

Great video man. I trully appreciate the very in depth comparison. Although I chose to upgrade to the om-1 mk1 soon after it was released, I won't upgrade to the mkii as I find there is very little improvement here.. I heard om system simply had to release a mkii because of naming reason as they no longer has the right to use the olympus brand name. Ence the small differences between the two cameras. But there are two points I would like to talk about even if they don't improve IQ: OM-1 has a better menu system and a much better viewfinder than the EM-1. I find that the OM-1 is easier to setup and I definitely think it's easier to see if the insect is in focus before pressing the shutter. I really hope that the futur OM-1 mkiii will have a big sensor resolution upgrade. 20MP is quite low these days..

Avery interesting video regarding the bracketing speeds.
Currently I use the EM1.3 and I have only experimented with on camera stacking without flash.
Have you done a video about how you determine and setup the focus steps to use with various apertures, especially f14. I have been using f13
Also setting up a flash to sync with the shutter speed for stacking / bracketing. Currently I use a Godox 305o. Can you get the Godox or other third party flashes to auto sync with the camera shutter speed, I have herd that certain OM flashes may auto sync, but never seen a demo on how this is done.
I am keen to try stacking and bracketing with flash but have not been able to work it out yet.

hello, I own a Canon R6 and I still have no negative experiences, I've been shooting with it for about 2 years. As a macro lens, I use the RF 100mm, of the same brand. However, I would like to ask if you would recommend OM for macro photography, if it is better to macro, why and in what exactly. I would also like to know if my canon will work well with the OM camera system, or if you recommend. buying an Olympus macro lens as well. Thank you very much for your answer.

Very helpful comparison! I was on the edge between OM-1 Mark I and Mark II. I'd need it for macro mainly and maybe some travel and zoo animal shots. Think the Mark I will do well enough and there's also a nice deal to get it bundled with the 90mm macro lens for 2.099,- Euros (and I think 1.800,- GBP).
Micael Widell has a code and link for that on his YT channel (video "Why I love OM System...") that's valid until the 20th of July for anyone interested.

@@StewartWoodArt Definitely, it's really hard to find good info on the macro differences. That was my biggest concern but as there isn't any I can save some money. The Mark II seems to have a leg up with people and birding. I don't do those.
Yours and Micael's channel are the main reason I'm switching from Canon to OM System in the first place. Well, at least for my Macro stuff. We'll see how it does against my R7 for animals. ;)

Hello everyone, maybe someone can give me some guidance, I want to buy a OM-1 Mark II for macro photography but Im a little lost on lens mounting system. The Olympus 90mm is a little out of my price range I wanted to get a Laowa 90mm but I don’t know if it will fit the camera because when you choose a mounting system, they don’t offer it in the micro four thirds which I believe it’s mounting system for Olympus. Can anyone give me some guidance on what laowa lens will work with OM-1 Mark II. Thank you 🙏

Not sure what is in the video and don't care as there is every chance it's just another fanboy apologist video making false claims about how the firmware on the OM-1 can't be updated when most of the changes are easily portable to the original OM-1 so there is no point in wasting my time when I already know the answer...
