“It’s like an angel rising out of the ashes” is a great way to describe their sound lex, never thought of it that way but it totally paints that picture and feeling
Evanescence and Linkin Park got me through a very dark phase of my life. I cannot speak for everybody, but the sentiment from me at the time was that if your child was listening to either of these two bands, it might have been a good idea to just check in on how they are doing. Amy and Chester spoke to me in ways that no other musicians could. It was like they understood my pain.
I love "Tourniquet" I thought they'd never put it on the radio at least not the original recording of the song, but they did in the city I live in. I was so surprised.🎤
Her voice always reminded me visually of Eve. When God put Adam into a deep sleep and took his rib and made her. I feel like when she opened her eyes and spoke she said " I " the same way Amy said " I die again. " How she stretched out and screamed " I " is her speaking into existence. Her voice is a gift
I know people will say this is wrong, but I’ve seen interviews of Japanese female rock bands say that Evanescence was some of their inspiration. This explains a lot of the NOW harsh music with soft female vocals in today’s popular J-rock & metal.
actually no early nightwish and some of the 90s gothic metal bands like tristania and theatre of tragedy the main inspiration for many women fronted metal bands but i see why evanescence get the cake bcuz they were mainstream
@@MrConstant23. At this point it very much is a band and when Ben Moody left it was felt. Amy is definitely the face and the voice, but Ben was a BIG portion of the artistry.
"An angel rising out of the ashes" is a perfect analogy for what I first felt hearing this song. Lex, you are the RUclips Queen of musical interpretation.
She could sing the phone book contents and I'd pay to see it in concert lol! She is an angel! I absolutely love her version of Sally's Song from The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton. It's hauntingly beautiful and in the live version she not only plays the piano but ends it playing the harp! There is nothing she can't do!
there's something special about beautiful feminine voices in the midst of the chaos. Perhaps it speaks to my primal nature, the angel in the battlefield keeping me fighting for survival
Amy Lee has such a powerful voice. Edit: Evanescence is probably the most dramatic example of the contrast of a high, clear piercing voice set against a hard rock background, but if you are looking something similar in other bands, you might check out the contrast between Babymetal's Su-Metal and her backing Kami Band in "Rondo of Nightmare" Live at Budokan. Ditto for Bring Me The Horizon's "Kingslayer" which also features Su-Metal contrasted with the band's heavy growls.
You give into the beautiful voice singing the beautiful melody powered by the heavy music. Gotta give it up Brad. lol Great reaction by the both of you.
I so love when you wear that hat! You so rock it. Because of my age my daughters were like. What you like Evanescence????? I absolutely love Evanescence!!
My love for female singers with both powerful AND beautiful voices started a long time ago with Pat Benatar and has evolved to Amy Lee and Lizzy Hale. And wouldn't you know it.... they did a song together called "Break In" that's a total eargasm!!
This ENTIRE album was amazing! I remember going on a pre-order list, waiting for this album to drop and my music store to call me that they had it in. I left work when I got the call, rushed to the store, bought it, and listened to it the rest of the day at the office. Not a bad song on the album.
Ah yes, the incredible Amy Lee. What else is there left to say about her. All the accolades in the world are true. Nowhere is there a finer female singer/songwriter/performer, and I love her and everything she gives us and it's been that way for the best part of 20 years. By Amy Lee, all others are judged, as far as I'm concerned. I love it that both you guys 'get it' with Amy. PLEASE give us more of your lovely reactions to her musical catalogue. Subscribed!
This song, and as a whole the band Evanescence, works because Amy Lee has such a powerful voice to pair to the instruments. She is classically trained and can hit all the notes. And there is just something special about that blend of pure vocal power colliding with the messy rock instrumentals that makes for some of the best songs. "Going Under" in particular brings it all together perfectly. Crazy thing, even after 20 years, Amy is still belting this song out with the same power & clarity, if not even more. Great reaction!
I mentioned Evanescence in one of your other videos because they are just so amazing and Amy Lee's voice is like spring water. Evanescence Tourniquet, Oceans, Lithium, Like a stone 👍👍👍👍
Lex you’d love “Taking Over Me” / “Tourniquet” / “Call Me When You’re Sober” & I highly suggest checking out the band “Within Temptation ; another absolutely 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 female voice in (gothic) rock .. my favorite is “All I Need”
If you want some awesome female rockers I suggest The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm and if you want harsh female vocals In This Moment all three are amazing
Brad immediately smiling in the beginning 😆 Evanescence is just so great!!!! Please react to Evanescence - Imaginarium, or Everybody's Fool!!! Everybody's fool has to be official video though
I want to see someone react to Tourniquet for Evanescence. And Lex you certainly can't go wrong with Amy's voice. Her voice just matches their voice perfectly.
Most of my favorites are songs that are hard and soft at the same time. Queensryches album Rage for order has that feel. Although not female vocals, it has that layered and atmospheric sound. The song Neue Regel is one of the best. It would be great to see you react to that one.
Personally this is my favorite Evanescence song...I love all of their music, but this one has a sinister sound that contrasts so differently...I just love that this sound works so well for her, and was so surprising when I first heard it...
Please do yourself the justice of watching and listening to the official music video in your own time. The extra audio layers added and the the whole visual experience will definitely hype you up so much more than just the audio, which I must say is genius. Amy Lee can do no wrong.
I think they messed up on the lyrics, instead of, I die again, I think she is singing I dive again, which makes more sense with the following lyrics, plus I think they added a word or two here and there.
If you haven't already heard it, I'd recommend their song "My Last Breath". It has one of the *best* little guitar riffs that always makes me feel shiny when I hear it 😁
Brad, you need to incorporate the "Power Sway" into your arsenal. It is very useful when dealing with Evanescence and similar bands. It is similar to a simple sway, but there are "punctuations" when either the bass/drums or a singer hits an emotional point.
Hey, I just wanted to suggest a song that isn’t reacted to by RUclipsrs that much but I loved it back in the day: N.E.R.D - She wants to move (official music video) Many thanks
I know plenty of songs have already been suggested from Evanescence already but I'd like to suggest one more.... "Imaginary" which is one I feel gets forgotten a lot.
I LOVE AMY LEE!! This band is incredible, so many bangers, her vocal range is amazing and just as magical live 🌹🔥 I recommend LOST IN PARADISE If you want range and angelic vocals, DO IT 🌹
I know you guys generally react to older music, but I have a suggestion for something that just dropped today. There is this AMAZING drummer named Yoyoka. She's most recognized for her RUclips vids playing to classic songs, but she's now starting to release original stuff. SHE IS 12 YEARS OLD, yet plays at a top skill level. Search for: Yoyoka - Sparkling (Official Video) It's instrumental hard rock/metal.
Amy Lee's voice is definitely angelic. Have you listened to other tracks from Evanescence like, Tourniquet, Lithium, Cloud 9, The Only One? She makes a simple noise in, I think it's Cloud 9, that's just her going "uh uh" that is hypnotizing. Only Amy could make a simple noise sound heavenly.
You mean her eerie sounding voice at the beginning before the lyrics? "Uh uhhh uh uhhhhhh...uh uhhh uh uhhhhhh" "If you want to live, let live. If you want to go, let go"
"It's sounds so pure, like a natural spring.. an angel rising out of the ashes." - I swear Lex has the soul of a poet
And loves guitar solos (or other intricate/melodic parts)... Definitely fun to watch.
And she's not wrong.
“It’s like an angel rising out of the ashes” is a great way to describe their sound lex, never thought of it that way but it totally paints that picture and feeling

Amy Lee’s Voice is Hauntingly Angelic. Check out the Song “Tourniquet” Extra Heavy Song with Amy’s Absolutely clear Powerhouse Vocals
They should check out “My Tourniquet Demo 2”, I think the demos are better and heavier in my opinion.
I love "Tourniquet" I thought they'd never put it on the radio at least not the original recording of the song, but they did in the city I live in. I was so surprised.🎤
@@laurak9666 That is surprising but awesome 👍🏻 Such a great song
Amy does what is often called cry singing. Using some of those same sounds in her lyrics. Very effective and haunting.
I missed this on the livestream. So glad you got to hear another one of their songs. She gives me chills every time I hear her.
💯
"It's literally like drinking a glass of natural spring water" Hahaha!!! I think Amy Lee would love that comment!

Well, some named Evanescence by name. So there you go.
Man, that is super cool.
Wake up! They copy and steal other reactors material word for word
Their "You Never Call Me When You Are Sober" video is a must. Sweet Sacrifice is another banger.
Tyvm for alluding to the fact it's a band
@@MrConstant23. At this point it very much is a band and when Ben Moody left it was felt. Amy is definitely the face and the voice, but Ben was a BIG portion of the artistry.
@@MrConstant23. Not sure what else it could be, given that Amy is not playing guitar, bass, or drums along with piano and vocals. 😅
One word I have for this song is just beautiful!! Captures the essence of dark and light!!
"An angel rising out of the ashes" is a perfect analogy for what I first felt hearing this song. Lex, you are the RUclips Queen of musical interpretation.
Nice couple. Always fun to see what cooking in Lex's brain.
This song really deserves the official video for your reaction.
You nailed it....she was like a bird singing in a thunderstorm.
Her voice just has a not to high not to low, she’s right in between but can belt when needed
Mezzo soprano. Just right.
my farther loved her style he passed away last year at 70 still loved amy lee
Absolutely one of the prettiest voices to come out of Arkansas.
Amy Lee is such a powerful singer. I highly recommend checking out the live acoustic version of this song from back in the day.
Her voice gives me goosebumps every time. 🥀🌹
Brad! When you hear heavy metal, BANG YOUR HEAD!!
One of her more current releases...
USE MY VOICE is a call to arms and amazingly inspirational!
Amy Lee has the voice of an angel

Just barely on this listen I thought of the similarity to Babymetal that way. It's a super interesting parallel.
I love your confused reaction about the "heaviness" of the music with the purity of her vocal. That's what we love about it! Lex gets it :)
You give into the beautiful voice singing the beautiful melody powered by the heavy music. Gotta give it up Brad. lol
Great reaction by the both of you.
I so love when you wear that hat! You so rock it. Because of my age my daughters were like. What you like Evanescence????? I absolutely love Evanescence!!

I really loved this album when it came out. Hearing songs from it now make me miss my Adidas shell toe shoes from high-school haha
You guys should listen to her singing with Korn. They sing Freak on a Leash. It's amazing.
I love Evenesence and Amy Lee is a phenomenal singer.
Amy Lee. What a voice.

Evanescence - Lithium
🎸🤘
FINALLY.......LITHIUM IS AMAZING.....SHOWCASES HER VOICE
you can tell Lex got into Amy after my immortal hahaha

I highly recommend you both checking out Everybody's Fool one of the most underrated songs I feel from this incredible band

I COULD LISTEN TO AMY SING THE PHONE BOOK!!
Great debut album!! Amy Lee is a treasure!! I believe Fallen has sold close to 20 million copies, released in 2003
Amy Lee voice touches my soul !! Voice of healing angel !!
I think it's 'I dive again'
You know...going under.
Yes! So many people that make lyric videos don't seem to know the lyrics and don't check if they're correct. lol
Should of done the music video it’s sick
Evanescence - What You Want
Brad immediately smiling in the beginning 😆 Evanescence is just so great!!!! Please react to Evanescence - Imaginarium, or Everybody's Fool!!! Everybody's fool has to be official video though
grew up on everybodys fool fricken love it still listen to this day
Amy says that Imaginary has been and always be in every concert because it reminds her of what their sound was supposed to be.
You guys are so observant and smart.
This is my favorite song from them! Thanks for reacting to them. So much power behind this song. Check out the music video.
I just love it when Lex rocks out!
If you like this one then try 'Lacrymosa'. It's all based around Mozarts Lacrymosa. It's beautiful.

Great song. Evanescense first album is da bomb.

Amy Lee made this about getting out of an abusive relationship, just made her a stronger woman. And there’s no denying she’s a rock star!

It’s not just about listening to the music its about feeling the music too, go on a journey with it
Really the only female rock singer i really liked. her voice really shined through.
Aren't the lyrics, "I dive again"? I've always thought that's what she was saying in the context of the song.
Yep. Lyric writers always get it wrong. Same in "Your Star"where they say "Lisbon" when it's "this world".
