React to Em’s song “Without Me”. It’s old school Em and he says “we need a little more controversy because it feels so empty without me”. He uses the nan nan nanna nan nan na na near the end of the song and that’s why Tom MacDonald did the na na na’s in Dear Slim. and it’s perfect because Em used to be the controversial one and now Tom is. An icon was born. Growing up, I saw MJ, 2Pac, and Em was the last great icon I ever came across...the sort of guy that can walk in a stadium and everyone lites up.
My kids grew up listening to Em because we listened to him and yes this song was right around the time Apple came out with the Mac home PC with good old dial up connection, huge cell phones and if you were well off and had a nice ride we had car phones with a cord lol. This song is actually off of his first album. When he came out we only had 1 MTV and they played music 24/7. Who remembers watching Em for the first time on MTV? I’ll never forget it, we had a houseful of friends over and we all loved Em from day one. Always love your guys reactions!
"I should download an audio and mp3"... That's a dig at Britney Spears because it was almost entirely her and Metallica (Lars Ulrich more specifically) who started the whole 'downloading music is illegal' scam. They were likely both just puppets of the RIAA, but they were directly responsible for Napster's demise and RIAA changing laws in their favor to make downloading music illegal (As opposed to sharing something you purchased and/or recording off the radio which were both well established as legal at that point).
I love this song so much, cause I was bullied in school for being white, fat, and shy asf and I was tired of it finally, I memorized this song specifically, cause I had a plan. And when I felt comfortable enough to spit this song without the music playing, I embraced it and I wrote slim shady with a sharpie on my off brand converse tips lol and when I went to school the next day dressed like Eminem in the tee shirt and stuff in this video, my mama let me bleach my hair and everything cause she saw how bad the bullies were and said I was gonna show they couldn't hurt me anymore lol and that day at school, they started in on me, I didn't say nothing, I sat down like I always did, and I started working on my morning work and one of my main bullies, he spoke out and said, "Will the real slim shady please stand up?" And I stood up and I threw my hand up, spit the first verse and got half way through the chorus, then got sent to I.S.S. They called my mom and when I got home, she said I went too far with it, but she said she was proud of me lol Was totally worth it and the bullies eventually stopped, but this song definitely made me feel more comfortable at school in my own skin after that. Lol Edit: Oh, I forgot to add that this was in 6th grade and until the day I graduated, this was an on going joke around the kids about me in school lmao and even still now as an adult, every other year on fb, people that I went to school with will post "I repeat, will the real slim shady please stand up?" on my wall. It's hilarious to me, cause it brings back a great memory I hold dear to me lol

Dwarf is a technical, medical term. I can’t keep up with politically correct terms. :) I liked this. I’m like Lex, I knew the hook. I don’t think Tom’s point was that EM change his views. When I watch this, I can’t help but being even more impressed with Tom and Nova. Because EM had a whole posse of people who helped with the concept of his videos, shot the videos, had powerful$$ producing his videos (prob with his help), but it wasn’t done by just two people.
This song was so insanely massive back in the day. I was 13 back then and most of us didn't have computers home back then (and internet wasn't what it is back then), so we were just waiting for this song to come on the music TV. Every 1-2h it would repeat and we were so pumped. Then someone "burned" me the album on a CD and I could rock it on my walkman 😄 I don't know if you know this, but Eminem really had three rap personalities: Eminem, Marshall Mathers, and Slim Shady, and all of them are different. - Mashall was hardship and challenges in real life - Eminem was rapping about crazy stuff, hoes, booze etc - Slim was rapping about really harsh stuff like death, rape etc
I grew up with slim. I liked him back then in his hey day. But my music tastes changed because for me rap went downhill. I've always enjoyed rock, rap, dance, techno, country, 50s and even some jazz. Currently I listen to mostly new rock. Love your reviews guys. You're my couch gang gang

love the Green Lantern shirt!! but also, i haven’t heard this song in foreeeeeever, my moms got together in 2003 and one of them is a huge rap fan, but i had no idea Eminem had pro-equality lyrics. super cool to revisit, thanks brad and lex!!
Eminem hit my bro up on the street. Handed him a demo tape. It was so good he called me that night to come over and listen to it. I remember saying, if anyone from Detroit makes it it should be him. He was so good even back in the days in the basement of St Andrews aka the shelter.
When your mentor is sitting in the studio and shaking his head and thinking to himself, Man, this dude crazy as hell, what the fuck have i created" - Dr. Dre during the entire time he was producing the second and third Eminem albums. Every time he'd make a beat and Eminem would come in with a piece of scratch paper and say, "I'm ready" Dre had no idea what he was about to hear but he knew it would be epic. Those multisyllabic rhymes were way ahead of their time and he's kept the complexity of them ahead of everybody for 25 years. I remember one song where a small part of a bar was "I'm diabolical, you're gonna die a ball licka" and he bent the words the way Jimmie Hendrix use to bend missed notes to turn it into the right note. When you're playing 10 notes every 2 seconds, to hit the wrong note, realize you hit the wrong note and bend it to the right note before the note even makes its sound is weirdly comparable to what Eminem does with words as far as genius is concerned. And that genius separates Eminem from the rest of the lyricists out there. Others can do it but not at that level
This is why the whole video of "Without Me" Dre is just shaking his fucking head at Em.... ahaha! That is literally their whole relationship... Dre just like dealing with crazy ass Em... ahaha!

Why these new rappers like MGK and Tom always want to be like Eminem and compare themselves to him why don't they do their own style because there is only Eminem no other can be like him

Also, no shade, but the Britney outfit Eminem was wearing was identical to an outfit she wore in her debut song Baby One More Time.
I was gonna request the same one. This is the song that showed his lyrical and speed powers and just shot Em to the top of the rap game. And he just kept getting better, which is insane. Lol

Criticizing the Government is not the same thing as being Counter Culture. Eminem's Counter Culture Status back in the day had little to do with his Politics and more to do with the delicate sensibilities that he wasn't just offending but demolishing on a massive scale due to his wide appeal, which in turn got the attention of the government. Eminem isn't offending anyone but maybe a few HYPER sensitive snowflakes these days.
That Britney outfit was from her first video “baby one more time” . It’s so cute listening to youngsters try to figure these songs out. Like there’s a bunch of references to Tom green who I’m sure they have no clue about, or Carson daly, the drama with Christina talking about Kim on TRL, how huge boy bands and spice girls were at this time. It makes me wonder how many 70/80’s songs I’ve heard that I didn’t fully understand
Yeah, it's obvious they were completely oblivious to most of the references in the video. Eminem was huge partly because he was a reaction to the Christina/Britney/NSYNC bubblegum pop era. There was basically nothing like Eminem back then, and it was a time when being yourself and speaking your mind was culturally celebrated as the coolest thing. He was also calling everyone out for being two-faced hypocrites.
Em meant as much to me as Tom said he did. I can't count the number of times I got lost in his music. I've walked from school to home and didn't remember how I got there. I can rap this entire song, I always feel so bad ass. 🔥 You can see how much Tom was influenced by Slim. I listened to a bunch of Em’s songs reverently, then played back “Dear Slim.” So many connections and references from his songs from 2000.
40.4k!!! Keep it going! Eminem came out swinging, but he had that big label budget behind him too with being a Dre signing. It's crazy how this industry takes artists and over the years either hollows them out or even worse kills them (the 27 club is a great example)... Eminem never really spoke too much on political things, social issues of the day etc. so he's a little vapid for my tastes. Tom out here changing lives with a positive message, meanwhile 'Slim's' message led MANY impressionable/dumb kids making dumb ass mistakes...like bleached tips lol
Eminem always talked about social issues and politics... there is a reason that both Bush and Trump har the secret service investegate him. And I'm pretty sure that this is also what måde Tom feel inspired by him...even if they dont agree politicaly 😊

Speaking of Eminem, you have GOT TO listen to “Cleaning Out My Closet”. The first time I heard the song, it hit me like a gut punch. A super powerful song that STILL bothers me EVERY TIME I hear it. Yet……I still listen to it start to finish each time 🤟🏼
MAKE SURE TO LISTEN TO THE SONG WITH LYRICS
That's possibly one of the most honest and raw connections I've ever felt to a song, especially from him, it just hits so close to home for a lot of people. Easily one of my favorite Eminem songs, though one I can't listen to often because of how it makes me feel.
Man, I love this reaction video! First of all, you both are lookers. Besides that, dude, your face shows you are so into the rythm and technicality of Eminem's rapping and her face is just magnificent. I'll deff watch more of your stuff. Cheers from the Netherlands.
It's always fun watching people discover Em's early stuff. I had the Slim Shady LP memorized back in the day, lol. I was about 15 or 16, so it was a big part of my rebellious youth.

Saaame! .... fuck im old :P
You feel OLD ? Well I myself was 38 when it was released
i wasnt even born when it came out 😭
React to Em’s song “Without Me”. Nobody picked up on that specifically except me. #HOG
Eminem is still very conversational he still uses the word faggot and retarded some people have the misconception that he went PC because he is ani Trump Eminem is literally better musically than back in the day and Tom McDonald is not even close sorry

When this came out our major radio station was playing it every hour on the hour for about 5 days!
They called my mom and when I got home, she said I went too far with it, but she said she was proud of me lol
Was totally worth it and the bullies eventually stopped, but this song definitely made me feel more comfortable at school in my own skin after that. Lol
Edit:
Oh, I forgot to add that this was in 6th grade and until the day I graduated, this was an on going joke around the kids about me in school lmao and even still now as an adult, every other year on fb, people that I went to school with will post "I repeat, will the real slim shady please stand up?" on my wall. It's hilarious to me, cause it brings back a great memory I hold dear to me lol
That's amazing and very brave, that's what you have to do stand up to the bullies, happy Eminem inspired you.
Thats amazing, already you had more courage back then than all those people will ever develop in their life, combined.
Hi Stanley.
I thought I was going to cringe but that's pretty wholesome and cool, you're really brave

That's a cool story. I myself am 16. I'm not bullied but I'm an outcast and this really helps me get through every day life.
On the topic of the blowback against Eminem, his song “White America” has a verse about congress and the media zeroing in on him
His reaction to some of the controversy around his stuff is great. Good songs for that are "Without Me," "The Way I Am," and "White America."
“It’s like that, she didn’t grow up listening to a bunch of hip hop…. I DID.” Brad then proceeds not to know any other Eminem song 😂

Midget isn’t a bad term either…they created a BS reason to make it a derogatory term now!
You two are killing me with this 7 and 8 stuff for this song!! Making me feel old!!
This song was so insanely massive back in the day. I was 13 back then and most of us didn't have computers home back then (and internet wasn't what it is back then), so we were just waiting for this song to come on the music TV. Every 1-2h it would repeat and we were so pumped. Then someone "burned" me the album on a CD and I could rock it on my walkman 😄
I don't know if you know this, but Eminem really had three rap personalities: Eminem, Marshall Mathers, and Slim Shady, and all of them are different.
- Mashall was hardship and challenges in real life
- Eminem was rapping about crazy stuff, hoes, booze etc
- Slim was rapping about really harsh stuff like death, rape etc
Portugal here for the Goat Eminem always since day one and forever. Thanks for reacting. Salutes and respect.

Ahhh… that’s pretty nuts. 🤯 On the Jimi Hendrix bit, what song would be a good example to hear the note bending?

Ahh yes... when Eminem was counter culture. The US Government went HARD after Eminem trying to use him as a posterchild for why censorship was needed.
Guess what? They investigated him pretty recently too. He's always spoken out against the government lol
@@valmacclinchy People don't realize how @nal the Secret Service is, anything perceived as a threat or a call to violence against ANY POTUS will result in an investigation if you have influence you'll most likely automatically get a door knock.

HA! this was awesome ! your chemistry is so cozy. Weird hearing Em and being relaxed thanks to your comfy reaction! great
I was 15 in 2000, so this was extremely relevant at the time. Had to hide my Eminem cds from my parents and bought the censored versions 😂

Yes, Let's GOOOO!!!!!!
