"The FCC wont let me be...they tried to shut me down on mtv" -Eminem
Lex: what is he talking about
Brad: i have no clue
Me:☠☠
I know 😂
They're young. It's understandable lol
Low key hysterical
😂 nice one
the whole message of the song hahaha
you have to remember the time he came out. there was nothing like him. he had parents, congress, and even the first lady denouncing his music and trying to get it banned. there was an entire crusade against him. he opened the doors for so many people after him just based on the fights he had to fight regarding obscenity and free speech.
2 Live Crew kicked down the door, and Em ran in and yelled, "BIIIITCH!"
@@NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself 2 live crew got robbed. as you said, they kicked down the door.
There was Marilyn Manson. Even Kurt Cobain was hugely controversial for a time.
You'd think people would be reminded of the value of freedom of speech, all the way back to Carlin and Bruce before him. But they're right there waiting to be the new censors, forgetting their pasts.
Rap/ hip-hop has always been controversial, usually for either subject matter or for vulgarity, something the FCC was created to monitor on media airwaves. Eminem wasn’t the first on that list, but his rise to stardom absolutely propelled him into that conversation because of the reasons I mentioned. The adults tried to suppress it, and that only made us love it so much more. The fact that I grew up near Detroit certainly meant he had more exposure locally, but he also had personal issues that made headlines, like his very bitter breakup with his wife Kim, which was present in several of his early albums.
Brad: This was really popular back in the day.
Lex: What day?
Me: Bahahahaha…….
I lol when she said that 🤣
This reaction KILLED me! They were so lost on Eminem and how much he pissed EVERYONE off when he first came out. He was so in your face and didn't apologize for ANYTHING!
What day
Me: all day every day
For Me: 2002, Cottonwood, AZ
I was 9 years old 😜
“Back in our day!” - A very frustrated Brad. 🤣
Its funny watching Brad be Shocked that Lex has not seen or heard something, welcome to the struggle we go through almost with every video lol.
...But that's EXACTLY why we watch too!
it's honestly kinda cool to see react her to soooo much classics, not only eminem but 50- many men for example
@@FsxPlayer112 👊😉agreed
But it is that much better when you know the backstories, how he was getting censored, attacked, sued, and just generally smeared.
Then when they think he's gone quiet, he drops an album that's like a nuke.
I just wish they would do a 10 second Google search to get context before each reaction... No idea about Explicit Lyrics label, or Osama at the end.
Just admit you didn't understand it. No analysis needed. 😂
The rap game wouldn’t be the same with out him. “It would be so empty without me”
eMpTy V
@@GODHATESADOPTION MTV
@@Cthulhoop nah it was always empty v
Back in the day Eminem was so controversial for the time that the FCC was trying to censor him and the media was trying to get him cancelled but the more they tried the more popular he got
This song is about how people love controversy that Slim Shady cause, Like the first bar he said 'I've created a monster cause nobody wants to see Marshall no more, They want Shady'
Em and Dre were always tight and still are. Dre is basically Em's mentor and Em is fiercely loyal to him for giving him the oportunity.
And they made each other MILLIONS of $$$
Debbie is his mom, so when he says "I just settled all my lawsuits, F.. you Debbie!!", he's referring to his mother suing him for helping him be successful. Quite ridiculous!
She "helped" him into drug addiction and mental health issues🤦🏼♀️ Cool parenting bro.
Need to react to Dr. Dre feat Eminem “I need a doctor” you’ll find out how closed they are.
🎯
Was coming to say the same thing
💯
@@wetraccoon99 they should check both
I concur!! Definitely a banger!!!
I love how his radio edit lyrics are just as good as the original explicit lyrics. What a legend, you can’t argue his grasp on language.
what!?!?! YALL HAVENT HEARD THIS?!?! HE SNAPPED!!!!
Eminem will always pay homage to Dr.Dre for saving his life. React to the song I Need a Doctor. It'll show The Love That Eminem has for Dre and vice versa... he is still dropping beats for Eminem, and they are still very close
That sax in the back is everything.
This song isn't too bad censored, but I always get caught off guard by the clean versions. This one doesn't have too many parts that are different but the different parts are pretty different. 🤣😈🤣
Pretty well summed up! On point!
Chickens they come they go.
"Jump back, jiggle the hips" always catches me off guard
@@JakeR541 haha yeah but it's one of the better clean versions of Em, Stan for example is... yeah...
Holy shit. I just learned there are people who don't remember when Eminem was pretty much the entirety of divisive issues in the world. And holy shit part 2, I just remembered that myself...a world when Eminem was our biggest problem.
I was a teen when these came out. Eminem was really controversial at first. He said things people didn’t say at the time. Called people out by name, joked about violence and homosexuality. He came from poverty and both his mom (Debbie) and his ex (Kim) came after him for money. He references his daughter (Hailey) a lot. He was silly and comedic but rarely smiled. Really interesting guy. I get most of the cultural refs bc I was in high school.:)
The guy popping up to say “nobody listens to techno” makes me laugh every time.
I love Lex's face when Brad said "back in the days, our days, when we were young". She's like"I thought our days were still going on" 🥰
hands down my favorite video Em has made. The lyrics, puns, and the batman/robin duo of him and Dre is perfect. Just a fun song/video.
Brad: "This was so popular back in the day."
Lex: "What day?"
🤣
That poor girl must’ve been raised in a cave.
I always love his Slim Shady beats. He's right, I like Slim Shady, always fun. The video is great...lays it all out. Lex is right...I watched this when my son showed me and he was 13 and he is 31 now.
I love the timing in this song! Perfect pauses and drawn out syllables
You're right.
This song and album was worldwide playing forever. Huge album.
Portugal here for the Goat Eminem always since day one and forever. Thanks for reacting. Salutes and respect.
Eminem's music videos are of the best and most funny ever.
It's still no our radio every day in sweden
If 45 gets back this shall be playing at the inauguration... carry on 🤴 👑 🦁 🐘
Gold ☝️
If we're still a country in 3 years
At this point in time, the FCC tried to shut Eminem down. CD's were labeled with Parental Advisory warnings. Look him up, he has quite the history.
Dre was the only one willing to take a risk on em!!!
Facts
Genius level move. He saw Mathers' talent and went * YOINK * "you're with me now."
They used to try to censor this man so much that when they used to play this video back in the day, they would censor out him saying MTV in the line "They try to shut me down on MTV"
When each of his albums dropped, it was like a little more of his story came through. I always felt like his music career felt like a TV mini series as I have been listening to him since his first album. It's been so interesting watching him grow and conquer and fall along the way. Mirroring all of our lives, almost. Relatability is important in music.
Dre opened a door for Em that very few could have at the time and in return Em made Dre so much money his great grandkids are set, they friends for life.
I always took this song as the "world being empty" without him (and his controversy's / anctics) between his 2nd and 3rd album. This was the 1st single off the Eminem show.
Same
How the game is Empty without him, MTV & all ... Aka *Without Me*
I guess Em was in childrens rooms all over the world. Was also my jam in school in germany. Great album, great lyrics, great humor, great video! Still banging in 2021 and lots of nostalgia for me.
Eminem is the first person to show that a rapper can just be himself and still succeed
He’s saying these media outlets wouldn’t be outlets without the controversial content. And he’s saying he’s more than happy to fuel the fire. Hence why he is trolling
Back in the day
Back in what day
Back in OUR day
Edit: btw, i never realized how incredible the rhythm to the chorus is! The way he gives that little break for the snare is just master level
Just have to say this...
There's something about this man's voice that just does something to me. I remember listening to this blaring while cleaning house after dropping daughter off at school.
u guys really need to react the video ''Dr.Dre Tell How He Discovered Eminem In 'The Defiant Ones''' 9min only to understand a little of em and dre history
Dre and Em are like brothers, they are that close to this day. Its why he(Dre) was heartbroken that Em and Snoop stopped talking for a little bit, but patched it bc they knew it'd make Dre feel better. Whom just had a health scare not too long ago.
He made a big huge bang with Dre and was silent for like 18 months. This was the answer to the hiatus.
he went solo backed by Death Row Records (Dr, Dre and Co). Also, Batman (whatever one) came out during this time hence the theme. Remember, this was a world of pagers and simple cell phones . Windows XP / 98 (98SE Service Pack 2 was better than XP) Era. No smart anything quite yet.
Em always more interesting than yet another songs about conquests, guns, cars, money & beefs
I recommend you try his song White America, talks more about how he got the controversy &his connection to Dre. I feel in love with this song (a comeback track) and think he's not given enough credit for the emotion he gets out.
He's the original Tom MacDonald , but more anti- republican, because of dealing with censorship and whatnot, during the Bush/Cheney era. If he began his career now-- he would undoubtedly share Tom's stances. Imo. Great reaction as always, y'all!!
Why couldn’t you do the uncut version? Like….. every Eminem song, make sure it’s the uncut version. I guess it doesn’t matter for songs from the last few years here, but it’s kind of important for most of his career. Especially this time period.
^^^^
required
i mean, the video is an MTV video, so there is no uncut version with it.
@@theghostofthomasjenkins9643 the implication is, don’t watch music videos for Eminem reactions. Watch a lyric video, better yet, watch a blank screen and listen.
I had to stop it. It keeps throwing me off :(
It's like there's a whole alternate universe out there where people (old and young) don't know anything about pop culture from even just a few years ago. I didn't have internet growing up but I feel like we knew MUCH more about our parents' pop culture when they were growing up. I'm just always amazed at stuff like this.
I’m totally shocked that they didn’t catch any of the little jabs and even didn’t say anything about the Batman and Robin theme. I love these two but I’m shocked 😯
The bond between Dr. Dre and Eminem is not something that can be broken. You should look up the story! It’s really wholesome and profound!
Early Em was (at times) alot of fun and tongue in cheek. It's why he was so refreshing, besides the genius talent. At this time he was probably the most controversial artist on the planet, parents (as usual) used him as a scapegoat for why their children were being rebellious, MTV banned some of his stuff but he was huge so it ended up damaging them through reduced viewership, hence the superhero-returning element to without me.
Eminem is the best at taking the shit ppl say about and flipping it on them, case in point the Kamikaze album
the song makes fun about shows , movies , celebrities and songs of that time and i think its about us who cant live without such entertainment...cant live without eminem because we love the controversy
Dr.Dre is basically Em’s Dad at this point. In a positive sense💯
Great reaction as always.
I think long time Eminem fans who were listening to all of this stuff as it dropped are living through Lex to relive their first time hearing these songs. Just head bopping and a smile. Same as we did when it first dropped. Enough said.
Y’all still haven’t reacted to No Apologies from Eminem. Maybe I did miss it tho. 🙂
Do "I need a Doctor" it's almost like a loveletter from Em to Dre.
Loveletter is too exaggerated it’s more of a sincere thank you for everything & I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you💯
Best BFF song. Brings tears after Dre flippin when his son died and Em bringing him back from the edge. Great song for them to react to. Great suggestion.
I love how real y’all are. I grew up being a little kid in the hood and my older friends and shit were like “this white dude only famous cause he white” and shit like that. And honestly, I don’t really remember his music being played a lot in Atlanta and it definitely wasn’t being played in the black community. But nowadays it’s hilarious to me, cause I remember being a little black kid, in the hood , and I was always into comic books and drawing and shit. And was kinda nerdy cause I wasn’t aspiring to sell crack and shit, cause my older cousin was super smart and made it out the hood and got a great job and I always felt alienated for not being “black enough”
And my cousin got me Eminem’s first album on my 13th birthday and I thought it was so unique and interesting and since I was a comic book nerd, I almost felt like a rebel listening to this. Cause all the gAngsta rap and shit didn’t really appeal to me, my favorite cassette that I had back then was ATLIENS by outkast and this compilation my cousin had with Dungeon Fam and these really sick beats from some white kid named Dj NO and killer mike and Andre 3000 was on it.
Anyways. Just building a little context cause growing up in south Atlanta. White rapper meant WHACK as fuck. And I was surrounded by hood culture and southern rap. But I liked the quirky stuff like outkast. And I loved that first Eminem album. But got so much shit from everyone for listening to it that I ignored Eminem from that point. But now it seems like it don’t matter race or culture people seem to love this dude. And honestly. Adult me doesn’t really vibe to it. But obviously he did something that must have really clicked with white people especially. Cause I constantly see his name on top 5 lists. And I disagree heavily but his unique sound and just over all ability to be funny and entertaining and “convtroversial” is off the charts.
“What’s he talking about?”
“Idk”
Had me dead 💀😂
I NEED A DOCTOR, EMINEM AND DR DRE
It's a batman robin spoof. The na na na at 3:56 was music reference played in all the batman episodes.
Eminem kept music industry going almost single handed
Awe, good for your voice brad.
Eminem credits Dre with saving his life by pull him out if his situation so I'd assume they're good friends and all the smack talk about Dre is just jokes and Dre knows that.
I love the contrast of dre looking absolutely fly and shady dressed in a skintight Robin cosplay
Funny hearing the line "embarrassed their parents still listen to Elvis" because now our kids are embarrassed we still listen to Eminem lol. Talk about full circle!
"So popular back in the day"
...."What day?"
Man that made me laugh.
"....so popular back in the day..." "WHAT DAY??!"......🤣🤣👍👍 Lex💪🤣
Well, this one brought back memories I didn't even know I had in me.
Ah this album came out in my formidable years 🤣🤣 I used to drive my mom nuts. This was eminems first big come back. Long before rehab and relapse.
SNL did a parody of this song a year or two ago. Pete Davidson played the Em character and the subject was NFTs. Chris Redd played the Dre character, but as Morpheus from The Matrix. 😄
Classic Slim.
A super hero saving the world 100 bars at a time.
just looking at the numbers
eminem is one of the greatest artists to ever live
old eminem who enter in the history of rap,the best,i like him.😀
Love Dre in this video. Eminem is one of a kind, facts. ❤️🎼😎🔥
Rappers usually make music about themselves and what happens to them. That's why cant comprehend the music. I need a song to drag me out of normal bologney and make me think
I used to listen to songs with my step son and go back and show him the videos from which the songs sampled.
Malcolm McLaren "Buffalo Gals" is what I showed him after had me listen to this.
You guys are one of my "Ok, one more" channels. You are my "Sorry I'm late I was watching Brad & Lex again" channels. You guys are my "Didn't get that done today" channels. Love you guys.
If interested look up the references in the song and video. It still surprises me how he openly gave his opinions about Mobi 😅
you guys are so young, I was bangin this in my El Camino 2000 watts pissin everybody off around me waaaay back in 2000! damn I'm old!
he is a lyrical beast!
This was the song that got me into the Standom. He was goated since this song came out. Also the guess who's back? Back again. Shady's back. Tell a friend. IS SO ICONIC.
AND Em is obsessed with Comics!!!!!!! Which is what makes it so funny too
Every time I watch someone react to this I wonder if people are gonna catch that after na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na he says
Fix your bent antenna, tune it in, and then I'm gonna". I'm rooting for you guys on this one
even though i know it, still till this day i still cant hear it lol
The rhymes within rhymes are out of control.
You have a keeper Brad! Lucky man!
Ha ha we all thinking the same mate
Lot Of LOVE For Brad & Lex. from the UK.
This whole video is just Dre dealing with Em for all these years... ahaha!
I heard this when i was in middel school. It brings back memories. I dont remember a single word of the song but the beat is stuck inside my head.
This entire song is one giant dis track. If you dig into it, it becomes hilarious. (Debbie, Chris Kirkpatrick, Mobie, you name it).
The song is about when Eminem was banned from MTV for awhile. Of course this hurt their ratings, so Eminem is saying that MTV feels empty without his videos on it. And of course he had to make jabs at the same time of what was going on in the world.
This song was way ahead of its time!!
Jesus Christ I think im a stan... I can't stop watching your videos and I gotta work in a few hours
I can't believe Brad heard it but never seen the video! My only exposure to Eminem back then was MTV, and this was the most played video, I'm pretty sure... at least when I was watching. :D And I'm Hungarian and was born in 1990. Not exactly Eminem's target audience. :D
Every scene in there has a meaning yall. The court scene with the frizzy hair chick was hos mom. They had a lawsuit her name is debbie and he threw judge Judy in that one. Him and moby and limp biscuit had a beef, they in there too.
The Goat Eminem
This is one of the cleverest songs ever. This song was an answer to Mtv and the fcc. It is "Mty" without me.
FACT: after this song
Moby changed his name and genre of music
Love this one... Beats hard the video is hilarious
Dre and Em bobbing their heads should be one of those images shot into space, iconic
" This was so popular back in the day."........."What day?" hahahahha
Love this guy, the early years were like if Dr. Dre had a baby with Weird Al Yankovic.
Back in the day was the 70's for me. Lex with the head tilt and "Back in what day?" Classic. It finally struck me like a bolt of lightening. You two remind me of George Burns and Gracie Allen.
This video distracts from the lyrics. It may not be overwhelmingly profound but there is so much creativity in the lyrical delivery of these truths that just dances over this beat. Keep'm coming!
So popular back in the day....what day? 😂😂😂 Too cute
I feel so very old when people don’t know certain songs🤦♀️ that were so big in the day. Me I grew up on Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Motown then all the 80s music. Yep feeling old right now 🤦♀️
I can't believe how how much of this goes over both yall's heads with all the pop culture and general references/ parodies mixed in. I'm not the biggest fan but still get this shiz.
She said "What Day?! Classic
