In case you actually don't know. Aperture stops: 1, 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22 ... A factor of 1.4, and then in reality it's rounded off once we get past 5.6, and the 1/3 stop increments are also rounded off.
The XF 50mm f/2 is my favorite Fuji lens.. brilliantly sharp wide open, compact and light weight, nice bokeh, close focusing distance (much closer than the 56mm), very solid build quality.. just a great lens to shoot with. I only use it for photography though..... LOSER!
Yep. Since I got the F2 my 56F1.2 just stays in the bag. I only use because I feel I ought to! (Should sell it really). The F2 works great for 2 people portraits, pseudo macro and headshot video with background context rather than just a blur of bokeh - sorry, I mean Toneh.
Regarding aperture.. if you want to remember one simple rule it's this: double or halve aperture to get a 2-stop difference. So 1.2 -> 2.4 -> 4.8 or 1.4 -> 2.8 -> 5.6 all have differences of two stops.
warmer colors on the 56 which help the bokeh look a bit more creamy. It would be interesting to see the 50 matched up color wise as it does seem to be the superior lens in most regards. Seems you got some cinematic inspiration with the 50mm. First bee shot, and the flock of birds taking off were exceptional.
"Where's he going? He'll end up in the park, what a great day!" This song always gives me the good feels. Makes me feel like everything's gonna be okay.
Phillip Bloom crying tears of joy watching that b-roll. Truly believe that any animal or butterfly content the XT4 has looked better than anything else. It’s got the magic.
Top notch lenses...for specialty use of course. :-) I agree not suited for general vlogging at all. This was fun all the same and the best part was YOUR song- which is probably my favorite of yours so this video was a nice treat. Thank you for your humor, talent, time and humility Sir. Peace.
I liked it better when you were a micro 4/3 loser like me .. the fuji has more warp in it than the starship enterprise. Love your channel however and look forward to your videos!
The full F stops are: 1, 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22. The steps are multiples of the square root of 2 (which is approximately 1.4), each represents a doubling of aperture area and thus the amount of light entering the lens. 1.2 and 1.8 are inbetween values. I preferred the f2. And it's diminutive size and weight should be a boon for vlogging. With it's shallow depth of field the f1.2 obliterated the background and created a surreal look. Whether that's good or bad is matter of personal preference. It's autofocus couldn't keep up with the running squirrels. Did boosting the speed help or just lead to focus jumping to background more often? A shorter focal length would be better for vlogging. Do you have the 16mm f1.4 and/or 23mm f2? I wonder how the big 8-16mm f2.8 would work?
I bought the 56mm f1.2 for portraits because of the nice bokeh. I would never use it for video. But honestly, I think I like the 50mm f2 is better from what I see here. Lighter weight, faster focusing. Might have to sell the 56mm.
Fuji camera's don't track subject's, they only track faces (probably not squirrels!). That's why, when you turn away from the camera and it can no longer see your face it stops tracking you and looses focus. Canon, Panasonic and Sony all have object/subject tracking and will switch to tracking an object (like the back of your head) when it looses your face. I really want to like the Fuji camera's however this lack of subject tracking is a deal breaker. Probably go for a Canon instead as it has good colours (SOOC) and good autofocus, although tempted by the G9 for the IBIS and small lenses.
It always tracks the animals I point it at. You don't even have to think about it. It even tracked that squirrel at the end with the terribly slow 56mm f1.2 Unfortunately it back focused on the tail lol. I get the best results just pointing the Fuji at an animal, it almost always makes the right decision.
@@cameraconspiracies Thanks for the response, is good to know. Has this been the case on all the Fuji cameras you've tested? Have you ever tried tracking anything without a face like a car around a track?
Since you love the 12mm focal length for vlogging, have you tried the Zeiss Touit 12mm toneh/2.8? I haven't, so I can't comment on how well it would work, but it does have autofocus.
Is xt4 your favorite camera? All your footage on it looks great. Makes me want to get one. Is it the camera or have you improved your filming/editing skills over time? Probably some of both..
I thought the F2 Fuji lenses are the best for autofocus and video? That seem to be what other video reviews of lenses for the X-t4 seem to be hovering around. The newer lenses with linear motors are suppose to be the best for this system.
I know it's not the latest or greatest, by any means, but my favourite Fuji glass is still the 35mm f1.4. It's a little bit of magic. However, I did give up shooting in auto & just used manual! 🤣
Aperture is proportional to sqrt(2) ~ 1.4... that's why apertures are often multiple of it. So there is one stop between 1 and 1.4, and another one between 1.4 and 2, another one between 2 and 2.8... you won't get lost anymore.
I prefer the 56mm. In my experience, the lower the Toneh, the brighter the image. Just look at Leica’s Noctilux. Toneh 0.95 is it? That’s why it’s so expensive...
I should not watch the squirrels, I just got through watching the movie Rats: Night of Terror, the ending creeped me out😆 But some Toneh comparisons that will do. Oh and Bigheadtaco mentioned you in hs last video.
I was so confused about that fuji lens announcement. For years fuji said the f2 lenses were modern so better for video. Then recently they said get the zooms or the 1.4 primes.
Casey ! Get away from those bees 🐝 bro !! They’ll phuk you up !! You need to ask peak design for a sweet as hell tripod ! Carbon fibre bro !! You’re an influencer now !! I’ll have it if you don’t want it !! 🐿

My Toneh tshirt arrived yesterday. I am happy.
A-Roll B-Roll C-Roll, Squirroll.

This is your best period mate. These and the earlier videos are so enjoyable to watch even now.

Also has near silent focusing for video. I saw it on Gordon 'Laing' Laing's video.
Fuji colors are pleasing...has to be said.
Vlogging with 50mm is certainly more
C I N E M A T I C
56mm for vlogging. Only this channel does vlogging like this.

"He's allergic to frogs.....but that's ok"

Hell yeah! I'm getting use to this waking up and watching my Canadian camera friend😁
At 5:52 I saw the Tony himself... wait... no, it's Kasey! The animal B-Roll with the soundtrack: EPIC!
You can see him at 14:37
This is the best lens comparison video on RUclips, along with the greatest b roll ever known to man, or alien.

Cough 50mm f1 cough
Very cool slowmo b-roll Kasey! I wouldn’t have thought that the Fuji could pull that off with that lens. 🤣 for the Toneh cameo!!
Phillip Bloom crying tears of joy watching that b-roll. Truly believe that any animal or butterfly content the XT4 has looked better than anything else. It’s got the magic.
56mm was very soft on widest 1.2 aperture. 50mm on f2 is sharp enough, has faster and more silent focus. It looks better for video
Nice review, Sam Rockwell
Haha

“Oh, hi there! Name’s Kendrick… Foarnsfarther… You good? You need a drink? Alright.”
That squirrel b-roll footage and song had me think I was watching an Attenborough documentary. Great review of these two lenses!
50mm T2 did the best job!
Extreme closeups brought to you by Gordon Laing, autofocus brought to you by Helen Keller.
I've never seen the 56mm perform this good with AF! Please share your AF settings! 😍
Tracking +4, Speed -2.
@@cameraconspiracies Thanks Kasey!
Oh, poor foooj. This was your best outing?
I used to have it on my xpro1. Manual focus only LoL
My 56 is hideously slow on -2, I have to use 0 speed and 0 tracking and it’s pretty good.
I liked it better when you were a micro 4/3 loser like me .. the fuji has more warp in it than the starship enterprise. Love your channel however and look forward to your videos!
Very cinematic on the 50mm T2. Loved the wildlife B-roll ❤️
When the bee hovers the lens, now thats what you call a bee roll.
When I need a squirrel fix, I come directly to this channel.
ya know.. i kinda like cameras... they are neat.. but you just plain make 'em fun! :)
Another great episode of Squirrel Police Conspiracies -- "The Great Nut Caper"
Those B-rolls and the music were pure epicness ! Long live the Toneh.
Some of the best squirrel video yet!

That focal length really does look great. Very pleasing indeed.
Some of the best squirrel footage I have ever seen! Who would have thought that longer lenses reached farther?
I bought the 56mm f1.2 for portraits because of the nice bokeh. I would never use it for video. But honestly, I think I like the 50mm f2 is better from what I see here. Lighter weight, faster focusing. Might have to sell the 56mm.
Someone has to make a dope as remix of his "can we fly" song and I could totally see it in a top 50 Chart. That Part sounds amazing tbh!
The Fuji 56 definitely had better toneh, but horrible autofocus.. What caught me off guard was the TUNE and u singing!! Top40 material for sho!!!
Damn! Are you now releasing videos daily? My fragile little brain is getting overloaded!
The 56 1.2 did much better than I thought it would.
Hopefully they send you a copy of the 50 f1.0 once it's out so we get to see how well it works.
This is both very informative and hilarious. "A pain in the bitch" cracked me up xD

The bees are helping you get the B-roll.

Man guess I can watch squirrel, birds, and dog all day long. Also cool music 👍
That squirrel-roll was glorious!
That song was amazing. It was like Death Cab for Cutie but with a bad drummer
Tony’s video was way more blurred when he was near the lake lol 😂
I thought the F2 Fuji lenses are the best for autofocus and video? That seem to be what other video reviews of lenses for the X-t4 seem to be hovering around. The newer lenses with linear motors are suppose to be the best for this system.
Let's declare Sep 10 to "Toneh Celebration Day" and continue doing serious stuff starting tomorrow.
PS:
Don't take serious to serious.
I know it's not the latest or greatest, by any means, but my favourite Fuji glass is still the 35mm f1.4. It's a little bit of magic. However, I did give up shooting in auto & just used manual! 🤣
I will say the 16-55 is great for video but it’s heavy on my xh1 for vlogging. Especially with a mic and external monitor lol
I like about the 50mm that it's a WR lens and can focus shorter
that broll was national geographic level
50mm f2 for me...new to fuji guess this is on my list of must buys
I get the feeling we soon will have an indie album released by Sony Music Entertainment
Aperture is proportional to sqrt(2) ~ 1.4... that's why apertures are often multiple of it. So there is one stop between 1 and 1.4, and another one between 1.4 and 2, another one between 2 and 2.8... you won't get lost anymore.

The Toneh 1.2 looks so fucking good
I love the 50 F2 for pics it's sooooo good..
Will you be trying the new 50mm F1.0?!!
Holy Grail Challenge: catch the squirrel of hope chasing the butterfly of hope... with the 200mm F2
Those flapping squirrel ears. I'm moving to Toronto.
Your outro song was so chill!
There's a very significant difference in the 'toneh' but the de-focused color fringing of the 1.2 is strong.
👍thanks!! pls more fuji lens !!
Looking forward to XC 35 vs XF 35 (f2) autofocus test
Fantastic focal length for the Squirrel/Brid B-Roll. Hell ya Homie. Whats the scoop with the Tascam audio?
it's not about the quantity of the toneh, but the toneh on the 56mm looks magical!
I think we would now like to see you Vlog with the Fujifilm XF 90mm lens. Do it.
squirrel footage rocked today.... love it
This lens is a toneh-monster🔥🔥🔥
hahahaa you are hilarious- most amusing review video i’ve seen. never seen squirrels so beautifully captured before
I love the song.
We need the video equivalent of GR III snap focus. The 56mm is optically more pleasing 3D effect but these AF performances are shocking.
You should check out Fuji’s new vlogging 50mm f1.0 Lens!!
It’s wide angle compared to 56mm 1.2, but offers extra TONEH!! 👍
Best of all your songs 🙏🏽
