Too much to correct by peoples sweeping statements that are wrong so I'll be quick. I'm Welsh, a celt so let me explain a few things. Firstly the Norse were attacking defenseless English, they were attacking Saxon invaders. England and the English kingdom was even properly formed before "Alfred the deceiver" died and his son Aethfled the Useless was totally ineffective as king. The Roman's subjugated us Celts in 100 A.C.E and when they were wiped out by the Ostrogoths the GERMAN Anglo Saxons filled the gap. So the Vikings raiding were killing Saxons, so any English members on here bemoaning the plot, unless your worried about ubisoft's making a pretty good looking game, fighting invader Saxons, they have done their homework like odyssey. English from their own perspective are the good guys because they are defending their home from the 'heathens'. The vikings from their own perspective are the good guys because they are raiding England (historically) to make a settlement there as they wanted more fertile land given that most of scandanavia was freezing so the ground was hard. Also vikings believe the only way to enter valhalla is to die a warriors death, so going to fight an enemy was seen more as a necessity than an choice.
I know right? Saxons need more love what with the Vikings series, the last kingdom and now this all portraying them as weak pussies. But everyone has a massive hard on for Vikings with that dumb ass none historical haircut.
It's fashionable at the moment to present the Vikings sympathetically as those who just 'got a bad rep' via historical revisionism and paint the Anglo Saxon Christians as the bad guys. Alfred the Great is the oppressive Templar tyrant and the invading pillaging rapists who massacre monasteries are the good guys lmao. It's interesting as Alfred defeated the heathens anyway and their leader converted to Christianity.
There were elements of this trailer that felt a lot like the trailers for AC: Revelations (one of the best trailers) and AC: III. I'm also glad to see the game getting back to a time in history that's closer to the formation and existence of the actual Assassins and Templars the games were originally inspired by. Looking forward to where this one goes!
Lol in that times the assassin were existing sinxe round about 900 years, bayek founded them in 20 bc. I think this ac will explain how the conflict between templars and assassins started and how templars got founded. I mean the cross we were able to see while war was declared.
@@astrimba5252 I meant the actual history of the Assassins and Templars, not the AC history. The two groups came into being a couple of hundred years after AC: Valhalla is set. I'm hoping to see how the conflict developed in-game as well, I think the story could start to feel more familiar and closer to what the conflict between them was like at the start of the series.
They could've been a bit more accurate with arms and armour of the time rather than 'fashionable furry leather Vikings' and 'futuristic Saxons that look more like Normans' Also. Shield wall? Nice nod to the Hutton hoo helmet though.
Ubisoft, like Hollywood, never let historical accuracy get in the way of a good romp. When it comes to Vikings the silly costumes and use of armour/weapons 100s of years too early is almost a trope in and of itself at this point. Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom book series is good for (mostly) historically accurate Viking action.. unlike the (still awesome) show, Vikings.
Mbah Dota 2 yes because god of war invented Vikings and Norse mythology and the Witcher invented RPGs. I hate these comparisons because there are plenty of distinctions between AC and other games. It’s like saying Rockstar invented westerns or cod invented fps
Altair said.. La shai'on waqe'on mutlaq, bal kullun momken.. In arabic.. That means.. Nothing is absolute, everything is possible.. (an understandable sentence) Even in Assassin's creed odyssey they said that.. Nothing is absolute..
I don’t know how this is still assassins creed. Everyone’s just jumping on the Vikings/Last Kingdom band wagon. no helmets, no chain mail, no large shields, leather leather leather leather and fur.
The vikings having the big horned helmets, chain mail etc is a myth, they never actually had those, this is actually pretty accurate attire for the vikings
Clone324 ikr there wasn’t even an England back then only Wessex , Northumbria and a fewother nations , also the Vikings never conquered the entire islands
the vikings did use shields and ac: valhalla i think will include shield use to the main character.. is it so difficult to do the same for odyssey? greek hoplites used shield more than any other fighter and their shields were their best weapon
They actually came out and said the reason they didn’t use shields was because you play as a mercenary so they wanted to give them a more unorthodox style. If they used a shield it might suggest phalanx which would require a team of people.
Marius Elgohary I be naming my male character as Uhtred lol change his hair to black lol like the tv series last kingdom if not seen it go check it out

Aye bro dont ye know its current year all the vikings where black muslim lesbians pffffffft bigot England is a black woman jesus its so obvious valhalla is for everybody even if it says in the stanzas its not bruh get with the times 🙄
I assume they might base it off the massacre of the Viking settlements in England. I mean obviously the attack wasn't motivated by 'evil' they were massive threat if there was ever another Viking invasion which there were, all the time. Not to mention this is Alfred the Great we're talking about, the King that put in all the ground work for a united England. The King of Wessex that managed to keep his kingdom the only bastion of relative peace while chunks of England were under Viking subjugation and constant threat of raiding. He poured his life into maintaining the defence of his kingdom. So yeah to sum up this rant I have issue seeing him be played as the bad guy especially against Vikings of all people.
I’m happy Alfred is getting some respect he’s not counted as a proper king by most people but I just wanna see the him get some cool scenes cuz I’m called Alfred lol
Trapp B yeah it annoys me that when in history they talk about English kings the first one is William the conqueror they ignore Alfred and all the ones before

How come the English are the bad guys but they’re the ones being invaded
This is set in the Vikings perspective, so England are kinda meant to be the villains.
@plusmetal rise Never ever take an assassins creed game to be morally correct.

Ubisoft, like Hollywood, never let historical accuracy get in the way of a good romp. When it comes to Vikings the silly costumes and use of armour/weapons 100s of years too early is almost a trope in and of itself at this point. Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom book series is good for (mostly) historically accurate Viking action.. unlike the (still awesome) show, Vikings.

the vikings did use shields and ac: valhalla i think will include shield use to the main character.. is it so difficult to do the same for odyssey? greek hoplites used shield more than any other fighter and their shields were their best weapon
They actually came out and said the reason they didn’t use shields was because you play as a mercenary so they wanted to give them a more unorthodox style. If they used a shield it might suggest phalanx which would require a team of people.
They didn't want people to turtle in Odyssey so they retracted shields and spear throwing.
