It's possible to find joy in it, all right. Personally? after a first month of despair, i started finding alternatives and new way of seeing / dealing with food. half an year later, cooking was again one of my greatest pleasures and nowadays, i'm really stunned with what kind of food certain people have in their kitchen (even if they claim to eat healthy); i wouldn't feed my dog with it. And more, if i happen to have a bote of some processed food i used to find tasty before, now it tastes so artificial to me, i can't stand it. So many ingredients we don't even know what they are... Our taste does change, it's a question of educating it - for the better. You will find yourself delighted with the simple taste of an organic (normal, actually) carrot : )
      Love and courage to all

I am going to start low dose naltrexone tomorrow night in hopes of overcoming my Sjogren's, fibromyalgia, arthritis, thryroid, and Raynaud's. keeping away from processed foods, soy, genetically modified foods, and high fructose corn syrup helps but I heard that this medicine can almost cure you.

    • @medronhos
      @medronhos 4 года назад +7

Dear@@Germatti13489, first of all, wish lots of courage. I just want to share with you the huge difference diet makes to my autoimmune situation. It' simply going from totally knocked out and not being able to get out of bed to being a functional, capable of working person. It's so big, i'm sharing it with everybody i can. Besides the foods that you mentioned, it is very important to exclude dairy and gluten - note that oats also have it, but there are gluten-free ones on te market. There are people who react even to rice or quinoa, because actually they also have prolamines; and gluten is only one of them. Chemical medicine can relieve you, but to what price, with all the side-effects. And it will n e v e r cure the origin of the problem, which is in the gut lining. The best thing to do is to consult a doctor in functional and/ or integrative medicine. Wish you to find one as nice as mine (in Belgium, so no sense giving contact). Wish you also lots of patience, for the recovery is slow, and much better days ahead

I've been on the AIP Paleo diet for about 3 months now. It's definetely really tough at first. At least for me. I went from eating so many processed foods, sugar, dairy and just all out unhealthy food growing up. I'm 32 years old now and just now learning what food is actually healthy. Since eliminating the dairy, gluten, soy, sugars, etc. and following the AIP Paleo protocol, I've been feeling alot better energy wise. Still dealing with some autoimmune issues but those didn't come about overnight, and wont go away overnight. This video of yours is encouraging and I hope I have the same great results that you had. My wife has Lupus and she's been trying to get on this AIP as well to help her out. It's definetely a life changing thing.

Corn, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini etc have lectins, that’s why they affect you. They are small doses of poison in our tummies and seep out from our leaky guts and we flare up. My Hashimotos was brought on by extreme stress and adrenal fatigue as well and now I’m backpedaling trying to heal the cause not the affect. It’s our bodies screaming for some self care finally.

It’s been rough, my lupus moved to my heart creating a condition called pleuropericarditis. It’s life threatening in my case extreme swelling of a sack around my heart and lungs. Lucky for me I found a new drug through my rheumatologist called Benlysta which has saved my life for now. The only draw back is that it kills your immune system. I know this probably isn’t what you wanted to hear but I’m going to keep doing everything I can to be here as long as I can for my family. I still follow a modified diet but it is more tailored to me specifically since I have identified what my trigger foods are. Stay safe everyone and have courage. 💪🏼❤️

I take care of my sister (autistic) but I cook for my brother and he is so picky. This is an encouraging video. I have fibromyalgia. I did AIP for a year. But the last 6 months have been slipping back into bad habits particularly with sugar. I had improvement within the first week with migraine reduction and clear skin which I didn't think was possible. I still have chronic pain, but have had so much healing with my gut especially and much less severe reactions to food. I have had allergies since young, and now I know I have a lot of allergies with food too. I know AIP is good for me, but it is really hard to stick with it and to figure out exactly what you're reacting to because they are so many other factors that play into it. Especially when things that you can eat on the diet are not ok for you, like nuts, bananas, etcetera. It is a grieving process, I love sugar, peanut butter, and spicy foods which all seem terrible for me. The good thing now is that I can eat a little of some things, and pay attention to my body and stop way sooner. Thank you for your encouragement!

I love how you worded it! A grieving process! People who don't have autoimmune disease, can never understand this! Even though on most days I don't cry inside over what other people are eating anymore, I still get those days when I wish I could just go into the supermarket and buy one of those fragrant croissants or something or just order a simple pizza like in the past...And I am always feeling like I cause trouble for people I visit. Even though I tell them they should not cater to my needs bcs as you, I don't expect them to know everything, they still try and they mess up most of the time, and then I feel bad for having to say no to the food they made me, even though they were trying hard. I feel like a nuisance and even though I loved family gatherings in the past, now it has just become this awkward, embarassing experience with always having to explain things and then seeing the sorry faces as they are looking back at me. And the general question I get everytime: "But if you cannot eat so many things, what do you eat???"....if I had a dollar for everytime someone asks me this question...:)
I have had gluten and dairy intolerance for 5 years now, so I was used to eliminating certain foods and I was feeling A LOT better but still there were certain symptoms here and there...I felt like I am not keeping my diet clean enough. A routine bloodwork at my family doctor showed that I had reeeeeally high liver enzymes without anything else showing any issues. I immediately thought of it having a connection to my intolerance but the doctor does not want to acknowledge it. They had me do a ton of tests and don't understand why this is. My two theories are, either I was not keeping my diet well enough, or I am intolerant to something else as well. So now I am doing the AIP. It isn't as hard for me as for others who go in there more cold turkey, but i still had headaches (just started 3 days ago) from not being able to eat rice or any "harder" carbs. I don't feel hungry, I just feel needy for stuff. :)
The only issue I have is....if I reintroduce for example rice...how do I know if it has an effect on me? I don't get strong symptoms anymore, I did not even know there is an issue with my liver until now! SO how can I test if reintroducing a certain food will cause issues?
I had a food intolerance test done for 30 food types (from blood) and I got a strange result. Many ppl who had it done say it is not accurate and cannot be trusted. but then how am I supposed to know what to eat and what to not eat? :S :( The test said I am intolerant to eggs, soy, dairy, yellow/green pepper and apples (???). But it did not show gluten...so ia m also unsure about trusting it. I wanted to cut out eggs and soy anyway, and dairy already cutting out, but...pepper and apples?
It is hard anyway to have to leave out gluten and dairy from my meals (especially bcs 90% of food in my country are made out of these things) but then to not be sure what i can reintroduce...In my country doctors don't take autoimmun diseases and food intolerance seriously enough...
(sorry, this became a novel! :D)

Hi Sister, that smell of croissants, right? Me it's the gaufres on the streets of Brussels : ) Unless you are coeliac, there are now digestive enzymes for gluten that you can use, exceptionally, for instance, when you want to have a bite of that birthday cake or something : ) This enzymes lower the bad effects it can have. Good courage, keep the hope; there are cases of completely healed people.

I am struggling with AIP a bit. You were dead on with the "grieving" part, which I see is my main issue. I have always been an emotional eater, so I think my next big step is to just grieve the "loss" and accept that I feel so much better! I have MS, psoriasis, and some pretty severe food allergies. It makes this so much more complicated! On top of foods I have to give up, there are a lot of foods that I just can't eat if I wanted to (I am allergic to raw banana, avocado, peanuts, and shellfish along with nightshades!). I have only been at this for about a month, but I am giving into cravings at times. Thank you for the motivation to stay on track and the advice to go ahead and be sad about losing certain foods. Oh, to add salt to my wounds, I am a professional chef! Ugh! I just need to relearn and rethink. Again, thank you!

It can be very difficult. I used to be an emotional eater too, and found it hard to not have that comfort when I needed it. But now I feel free, not having that dependence on food for comfort. I wish you every success on your journey, stick with it and it will be worth it when you enjoy renewed health!

Being in central Italy it's hard to explain to everyone why should not have them just like with pasta...gluten for an Italian is everything and can't eat it every meal any more but if it helps us feel better it's worth it most of the times. I'm seriously considering the AIP after many changes to my diet including gluten free and low FODMAPs. In addition to recurring small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, I was diagnosed within the last three months with hypothyroid and adrenal fatigue. I'm very nervous about removing nuts and eggs. Nuts are a super convenient food to have in my purse when I'm out and about. Ugh! But, I very much appreciate your videos and hearing about your positive response to AIP. Thanks!

I would highly recommend checking out Anthony William's books on the root behind thyroid disease and adrenal fatigue. I've been following his protocol for 4 months now and it has completely transformed my health, even more so than AIP. Maybe keep nuts in rotation for now if they make a big difference for you and you don't feel you have a reaction to them.

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  4 года назад +1

@@kissgirl67 If your body can't tolerate it it will let you know with a bad reaction of some kind. If you have no reaction then you're okay to eat that thing. It's tricky though, because sometimes your body can tolerate a food but only in small amounts. Experience and trial and error will reveal what is okay and not okay, and that may even change with time. For years I could not eat bananas but lately I have been intuitively drawn to them so I tried again and no reaction at all.

I haven't achieved diet success yet, but I also was diagnosed with Graves 1.5 years ago, and after several months on PTU (the older antithyroid med) my T3, T4, and TSH are normal without meds. My endo still wants to kill my thyroid, but as long as my numbers are normal, I don't want to go nuclear. So, I'm starting the diet. I think I will be able to deviate from Paleo AIP pretty quickly, but that's where I'm going to start.

I’ve been watching your videos on moving to NZ as my OH has a job offer in Auckland (from UK) then found this video which is awesome! I have Crohn’s which I’ve got myself off all meds by controlling with AIP (4 years in!). Eggs, gluten, bovine dairy, capsicum peppers, garlic and my main poisons but pretty much if it comes from a packet its off the menu!
One of the things I’ve been struggling to find out about in NZ is holistic medicine and general ‘alternative’ therapy practitioners. Any advice would be massively appreciated!
I’m currently about to revert back to full elimination in the run up to our medicals just in case I have to have a colonoscopy to prove that I’m not going to be a burden on the NZ government and I don’t want my health to be the stumbling block!
Keep being brave its so hard not being able to grab food as you go.

Ik exactly what you mean by "repeating the same food" over and over, it was very very hard for me to start the aip protocol, but its been 5 months now and i got used to eat. Altho sometimes i still feel that its very hard to have food always done cus ive to prepare/cook everything in advance for example soup for breakfast.. or try to have left overs dinner for breakfast.. its so hard
I can't eat a lot of things actually i think its better to say what i can eat rather than the huge list ive to avoid.
I started this protocol because i've Disidrosys eczema , its doing much better now but its still not controled. I hope in the next 6 months i can reach normal hands again :) even if it means eating the same thing over and over.
About the rice: I react to normal white rice, but im ok in eating whole rice or wild rice , weird
BTW!! Have you tried the pee/lentil/cheeck pea pasta? tehy're amazing for a "fast" meal, srsly and they are rly tasty..!
But make sure the pasta you're buying is 100% pea/lentil/cheekpea "flour" , cus many brands disguise nusty ingredients behind it, like.. corn flour potato flour and stuff
hope these pasta option helps you! it helps me a lot when im on the run to work ^^! they only take 6 mnts to cook!

View the changes you’re going to make that might not be fun compared to how you’ve been eating... but instead view eating greens and what not as fun bc you’re healing yourself and that’s more fun than eating in the way you have been. Ease/heal your body’s “dis-ease”. I’m type 1 diabetic and get hateful spells towards the disease so I understand sometimes it does F-ing suck. Anyways this is unsolicited advice/perspective so disregard if you wish :) idk what I was getting at, I’m just rooting for you and helping your health I guess! Much love, Jack.

Encouraging, thanks! I have Hashimoto's for two years. Starting after the lost of my son. One year and a few months later, my results was not ok. I was extremely tired, crashing all the time. I switched the synthetic thyroid medication to np thyroid (pig). Then finally my results came back average except for the antibodies (600) that were still really bad and did not change at all. I was feeling less tired but still really really off. I could feel something was still really wrong in my body. Not in a good mood and tired after 4 pm.
Then, I discovered Paleo diet four months ago. That was a life changing! Hard at first for a couple of weeks, my body was craving gluten and cheese! But then after a month I felt so much better, I thought It seemed to workand I continued. Two months after starting my diet : Antibodies reduced by half, TSH, T4, T3 great ! 4 months later now, I am feeling full of energy, motivated. I do not feel any craving and I have even noticed that if I see somebody eating pizza or some heavy creamy cake, I am feeling nauseous just by looking at them.
The Paleo diet is amazing!!! I would STRONGLY encourage everybody who starts this diet, do not feel discourage if you feel weird the first couple of weeks because it's normal, our body has to adpat but, after a month, you would notice already such a big change, you would never go backward after. For me, it gets better and better. I cannot wait to go back to my Hashimoto's follow up visit and see my latest antibodies results!

Hey, thank you for sharing this information with people, I've been on the AIP diet for 2 month now, recently I tried to eat some chia seeds, I felt extreme migraine for two days, never thought it was the chia! However, I think that the conventional paleo works for my lifestyle, I have tested peanuts before and I didn't have any bad reaction but then I found that it's not paleo, now that you're saying you've successfully incorporated rice, I feel encouraged to try other things, of course it's not gonna be gluten, because regardless of Autoimmune diseases, it's very damaging and dangerous.
Btw, have you ever tried intermittent fasting, a lot of practitioners and doctors think it's very beneficial for the gut and overall health.
Are you still on the immunosuppressive medications ?

I agree with listening to your body. I was doing that but so many people kept yammering at me and I lost my own voice and sense of self. It took me down a nightmarish path and in less than a year I went from eating whatever I wanted and having no symptoms and from not having autoinmune to mold spore exposure ( once again and my own fault ) causing autoimmune. I now live as a freak thanks to getting so used to listening to everyone except my own voice, my own gut instinct. I started this journey off saying I'd rather die than get on that road again but here I am in such worse shape than I was in January of 2018, when this all could have gone a whole other way had I only listened to myself and my body instead of listening to everyone telling me what to do. It is hard to believe how easy it is for some people to die and how hard it it is for my body to die. If I was clawing and kicking to survive and had a reason to live, I'd been dead last July. Ugh. I don't know how I'm going to die but I know unless it's in my sleep it's going to be horrific.

Have you ever considered a liver cleanse. The major kind that takes a whole day because of emptying the gut and also with a week of simple prep. You have to do at least one a month for 6-12 months to get the whole liver cleaned out. We do all this work to heal our guts and clean our system but we forget our livers and gall bladders need major cleaning. It may help with the flares from old toxins releasing into the gut whenever the liver decides to :) Just a thought. Thank you for all your words.

I has already been thinking I may need to eventually go to a dietician or a nutritionist to talk about what to reintroduce or how to figure out what effects me badly and what doesnt but I never have yet and I don't know what you mean by like "checking to see if that food was ok for your body or not"? Please let me know what you think about all that! Also I totally feel you on the CHEESE!!! I have always said that was the one thing I felt like I can't live without as it is my favorite food but I am pretty sure I am going to have to give it up for good.

Hang in there, and be proud of yourself for making the hard changes! It will be worth it.
An energy kinesiologist can literally ask your body and with muscle response will be able to get an answer. They do it in various ways; my kinesiologist squeezes a muscle in my forearm. It is so interesting! And amazing how accurate it is.
Waaaaah, I miss cheese so much!! But it is worth giving it up to feel so much better.

Wow I can’t believe I found you. I have 2 autoimmune diseases. Do you recommend a book I could get?

Anthony William's Medical Medium books are eye opening.

Where did you get the list of foods that you said you printed out. I’d really like to get a copy of that.

Just Google "AIP foods" and there are lots of resources.
More than that, I highly recommend Anthony William's books - following the Thyroid Healing protocol for almost 2 years has given me way more improvement than even AIP did!

When you re introduce food into your AIP diet how will you know if you can't eat it or if it worked?? Thanks!!!

Your body will let you know. Try a tiny bit of the food and see how you feel or if you experience symptoms, for example fatigue, headache, brain fog, irritability, insomnia.

    Thanks for the info,
Did you notice if sleeping early affects your AI?
I work at night and I think it caused my issues.

Sleep is essential for healing - it's when the body repairs itself. If you're not sleeping you're not giving your body the chance to auto-repair

I think all these diets that help autoimmunity and also mental health are much the same, avoid all grains, legumes, seeds, pulses, and nightshades. (That’s most starchy foods). GAPS, AIP, WAHLS PROTOCOL, PALEO AUTO IMMUNE, plant paradox diet. Etc etc

If I do have a response to an item that is reintroduced, then how long should I wait to recover and try another item?

I'd suggest until you feel well again and have none of the symptoms that appeared from the reaction.

I'm sure I had withdrawals at the time but it's been a while and I don't really remember. Good luck with your healing journey!

Hi. What does it mean exactly when you say you can’t tolerate x,y? How does this make you feel? Do you notice something right away or only the next day? I have Hashimoto since 8 years and only now a Dr advised me to start AIP.

For me when I reach the reintroduction stage I'll try a small amount of a particular food and see how I feel over the next couple of days. Different foods that I can't tolerate give me different symptoms - some physical, some mental, some affect my sleep, some all of the above. There is a lot of info on the internet about AIP reintroduction, hopefully you can find some that is helpful to you.
