  • The Best Lens (Focal Length) to Use on a Gimbal | Parallax Effect
    In today's video I share with you what I might be the best lens or focal length to use on a gimbal. I have been using wide lenses for a long time on stabilizers such as the Glidecam and gimbals especially when they first came out. But as I matured as a filmmaker, I started experimenting with other focal lengths on a gimbal and I am really loving using a zoom lens these days especially to quickly get to those longer focal lengths that can create the cool parallax effect.

    Great video! 85mm works wonders! My first stabilizer was my camera strap and my neck 😂

      Thanks Jason! And yes lol that's such a good stabilizer especially for those whip transitions.

    I just took my first gimbal out for a test drive with two different lenses and I completely agree that the tighter focal length seems to lend itself to much more cinematic footage

      Yeah it definitely gives you a different look! Congrats on the gimbal!

    Wow. AWESOME breakdown of major differences depending in focal lengths. You addressed at least 3 questions I've been meaning to learn about. Thanks...

    Hi Mario, great video, very helpful. Just out of curiosity I'm buying the GH6 to put on a Crane3S, what Panasonic Leica lens would you recommend. We mainly shoot interviews (client testimonials) with a GH5 / Ninja V on a tripod so the GH6 is to shoot B-roll (person walking etc..).

    • @MarioSoMedia

      Thanks Michael! Nice, the GH6 is looking good! I am really liking the Panasonic Leica 10-25 f1.7 if it's too heavy for the Crane 3S. Or the 8-18mm f2.8-4. I personally like the ability to change focal lengths on a gimbal so a zoom is usually my go to as opposed to a prime.

    My first owned stabilizer was the Flycam HD5000. Technically, my first stabilizer was just the cheap kind of glidecam, not sure what the brand is but it's just borrowed.
    I then switched to Glidecam HD2000 and then the Flycam Redking. After sometime, I'm now using the DJI RSC2 with the Sony a6400 along with a 50mm 1.4 lens.
    Great and informative video! I've been using wide angle lens a lot (kitlens). I'll try using the 50mm more with it.

      Nice! I also started with a glidecam HD2000. I remember being so amazed at the shots I could get with it.

    Always been a fan of my wides. Rarely use telephoto lens for gimbals. But now I will try to use telephotos more often

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  3 года назад +3

      Yeah it's nice to switch it up once in a while. I am a big fan of wides too haha but telephotos are a neat perspective.
