    Always kinda surprised steadxp didn’t take off before companies started to put gyro data in cameras (Sony). But that being said It’s 4 year old tech that they seemingly haven’t updated at all (still use GoPro 3 batteries, and the cheapest plastic housing). And you have to calibrate every lens on every different sensor for every different frame rate (and more calibration if you are using a filter). Also that $400ish price tag is no joke. Still dig mine tho.

    • @stalman
      @stalman  3 года назад +2

      Yeah i don’t know if properly expressed how weird of a product it is. And 4 year old tech or no, this still opens new doors for a lot of cameras that won’t have it built in any time soon

      @offshoretom 3 года назад

      Tyler Stalman oh I totally agree, like you said when it works it’s an absolutely amazing product. I just wish they had kept updating the hardware (I live in fear of the battery door popping off at any moment and had to glue a sturdier cold shoe mount on because the one they supplied is flimsy as hell) and made the software a little more intuitive (although I really should have given them credit for some updated versions to app that they have released). Really had so much potential and still does. Appreciate you doing the video and bringing attention to them because I want to make sure they keep producing and supporting (and hopefully evolving) the product.

    Spot on review. I've been using the Stead XP for almost a year now. It does it's job well but it comes with a few headaches of configurations, setups, and post processing which also requires a fast computer if you shoot a lot of footages. Overall, I prefer it over a gimbal but you have to get use to the work flow so you don't screw up during the shoot process or your footage is ruined. It's only a matter of time until more stabilizations are built into more cameras so we don't have to rely on 3rd party devices.

E.g. there should be a button to write a new file, rather than unplugging the 3.5mm cable each time. I’ve had mine for 5 years now and have used it professionally for specific shots, but it’s still no gimbal replacement given you can’t preview the outcome.

    Many of the Sony cameras have gyroscopic sensors built in and can get these type of results using Catalyst Browse software in post. • @StillMovingMedia
      @StillMovingMedia 3 года назад +1

      If your shooting higher resolution it would definitely give you a steady base to work from.
      The vertigo effect itself is a function of your distance to subject vs. Keeping your subject the same size (or thereabouts). So with a zoom was the only way people could achieve it for a long time.
      Now it’s easy to do in post just zooming into your footage, of course doing it with a pure zoom will mean no extra zooming as some zooming/cropping in fit the steadixp to work.
      but as pointed out above the steadixp needs to know the focal length it is working with.

    • @LoightaFluwid
      @LoightaFluwid 3 года назад +1

      Way faster and much more accurate. Warp stabilization creates a jello effect when there is too much shake in the footage.

    Thank you Tyler for your work . I wonder : 20 % crop , it means to reduce resolution ?

    • @ianAdrift
      @ianAdrift 3 года назад

      Yes that’s what a 20% crop means, 20% of your captured frame is removed in order to stabilize (kinda undermines the glowing praise for this little device).

    • @javiervalero8455
      @javiervalero8455 3 года назад

      @@ianAdrift Thank you for your answer. It undermines the praise because it tries to sell itself as the ultimate solution ... in my opinion you can't compare a digital stabiliser with a mechanical one, because they are totally different things. On a professional level, depending on its compatibility and performance, this stabilizer could be recommended for full frame cameras, because if on the contrary we work with 35mm lenses + 20% crop, we might not be able to use some of the cinematic standards. If it is sold as what it is, it would be better defined to what kind of customers it interests.

    Great device but too much to worry about for me. I like handheld (fully rigged) best but sometimes you want a smoother look. I hate the faff of my Crane S2 but it is a total beast (I have a BMPCC 4K and cine lenses and can even change lenses without powering the gimbal down/locking axes and it's buttery smooth and runs all day on one charge). Certainly won't see me skiing with it so well done on that front!
