Kyle, I gotta say you produce such amazing, high quality content, it's truly impressive for a one man operation. You deserve every click you get and more. Keep it up!
Another thing you need to take note of is not only the number of shims, but the thickness of them also. GM has different thickness of shims to dial in the caster and camber. Did a lot of these when I did alignments when I worked at the dealership. It's best to keep the shims in order to side and location.
That's a great point, thank you for sharing! I know I'll have to have it aligned, but hopefully this (and approximating the tie rod lengths) will get me in decent shape to limp it over there.
@@saabkyle04 yeah, it's more than good enough to get it close. Even though the parts are new, they never match up 100% on the alignment, it's always a bit off. It's why a alignment is recommended. You did great work on that. Friend of mine who was a counter guy at carquest back in the 90s had a 1985 s15 with a 454 and a th400 trans and had the rear tubbed and rear end narrowed for Mickey Thompson racing slicks. thing was a beast
Its incredible how much im learning from you. Just the coiling of the brake lines, i never knew that little detail. I wish every automotive youtuber was like you.
As a North Carolinian I can tell when this was filmed just because of the description of the weather lol! For real though, NC weather has been craaaaaaazy the past two weeks
The strech you cover is impressive. I've never been a fan of trucks, in particular not US-trucks. But the way you build them, makes me desire a truck like this. If only.... Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to next episode..
I'm jealous of how good of condition this truck is in before the restoration. My dad bought my 88 new (I have the pic of dad, mom and 7 year old me at the dealership with the truck the day dad bought it in November 1987) I've had to replace the cab corners and front fenders for rust. I did a bell tech 4/5 drop on it back in my high school days and it was a bear of a job getting the leaf springs apart. Gonna put it on air ride here soon and plan to clean the whole frame up. Your truck looks pretty original. I love these build series by the way.
When I did the suspension on my Caprice Classic, I wrapped the respective groups of Upper Control Arm shims in duct tape and marked them. ("passenger side front", "passenger side rear", etc.). I definitely like the spring compressor you used better than the one I used. Excellent video here my friend.
I'm getting mentally (and physically) prepared to take on my "retirement" project... a rotisserie (since there's no real "frame" to take the car off of) restoration of my 1962 Dodge Polara 500. Your video was very informative and inspirational.
i remember that the spring still came flying out. i dont understand why springs need to be under so much pressure. im not expecting so short they rattle when the cars off the ground but still need to be compressed a lot for removal
You have no idea how happy this makes me - I really hope any and all cars can have similar work done for the suspension and chassis. Cause the bottom part of my car just rusted all the way through and needs to be completely restored...
Hey even the "pros" mess up. Roadkill garage they bought a new flywheel for an engine and they did not measure it to make sure it was the right one. Put it on and put the car together only to find out the starter would not engage because it was the wrong size.
Those coil springs are absolutely not dangerous. Some are but not those. You simply put a floor jack under the lower control arm, loosen the upper and lower ball joints and the release the jack and the spring will just release the tension and you can remove safely.
StabTheDabb Productions There is a time and place for jokes my friend. You should rewatch the 240 videos over and over maybe I’ll quiz you about the subject 😏
Nice video. Just my $0.02. Wait to torque the control arm bushing nuts until you get the engine in it and the truck is at ride height. It will put less bind on the bushings and prolong their life.
I can imagine how sounds that v8 in the s10 with a flowmaster/magnaflow/cherrybomb something like that brands and more.. definitely worth it all your time in the s10 truck kyle" 👍✌
As far as I can tell, Me & You are the only 2 that consistently work & upload videos on S10s, You definitely do the work faster than me & Better Quality Videos, But hopefully one day I'll get there too 🤷 Keep up the good work man.
With the extra horsepower you'd think people take proper precaution to handle stopping (braking) the increased power. Already had everything apart should of just upgraded rears to disc and front to double piston calipers (using OEM parts of the newer Gen S10/Blazer) in my opinion. Also might as well uprad the steering box to a zq8 box to go along with the new upgraded steering shaft other then that awesome work!
I may have missed it in the video but what spindles, spring, and sway bar were used? I have an 85 with a small block chevy and I was considering a 3/4 drop on mine but was trying to determine components
Yes that works too, more so if it's heavier rust. My frame was incredibly clean to start, mostly dirty. It still had most of the factory undercoating on it.

All you need to do is to lower the control arm to get motor mounts in. Everyone I spoke with said that was a hard job. Piece of cake.

If you ask me, the best way to take the rust off of the frame is to use a stripping disc for an angle grinder.

Why didn't you just tap the existing motor mount holes in the cross member and not have to deal with nuts & bolts to attach the mounts?
