To be fair, tho.... most cars from this time, especially American cars, were pretty terrible.... not many are excited about the Plymouth Reliant, or Dodge Omni. And the iron duke engine is pretty meh. and most transmissions of the time were pretty phoned in too and can't take much power above stock. I get what you're saying, but I get why people "nope" out of old engine platforms. The LS is really that good.
I'm doing a full resto on a 96 Dakota 5.2 4x4 5 speed short bed. Just started to rust(surface) so why not. Truck can easily last another 25+ years. Bigger motor and we be in business. Super easy to work on, cheap parts, ridiculously reliable, so why not.

Nah, the 4.3 gives it more character. Resurface the valves and replace the seals, change the cam and have some headers built for it. Swap the fuel injectors from a 350 TBI unit and it could break 200 hp, and for a truck that light it would roast the tires all day.
Clean the frame...update suspension....no dropping as I assume you might use it for hauling stuff in the future.....restore as the Jimmy back to OEM spec....check engine for blue puffs of smoke coming out of the tail pipe while you were revving it up......maybe if time and money allows, interior upgrade to a more refined S10 trim?....rear disc brake conversion if possible
I've seen so many of these things modified and given the mini truck treatment over the years, it would be cool to see this one kept stock and restored, interior looks pretty clean on it too by the way. I grew up around these trucks, my grandfather had a few over the years, my dad owned several as well as 2 Blazers and I've had 2 S10s and a Blazer myself, so I look forward to see what you plan to do with it no matter what you decide to do and have been enjoying the videos on the Jimmy. Really got me thinking I might need another S10 in my life again.
I want everything to be updated to this day and age. L.E.D headhights and taillights. Every single other bulb made into led as well. Make sure your radio is modern as well. Overall make this project “Modern S-10 for the Modern Man.”
Very nice :)! I'm working on getting the same truck, a $500 1992, back on the road. This is my 4th first generation S10 but I have worked on many of them over the years. A quick tip for the folks without a lift, is to tilt the bed rather than take it off. Remove all the bolts on the driver's side and loosen the ones on the passenger side. Lift it up and shove a jack stand between the bed and frame. Plenty of room to work. If you do decide to remove the bed with the help of some buddies, the bed and tailgate together weight around 230 pounds (yes, I weighed mine before at work for fun). With four people, it will be less than 60 pounds a person. Just be sure to have some saw horses or something to set the bed on after you take it off or else you may damage the sheet metal.
It feels so good to fix something. I finally fixed my Honda. It wasn’t my bearings but a bent rim. I’m amazed my tire didn’t blow. The rim was bent ever since a crash into a ditch in December of last year.
Hey Kyle love your channel. I miss your cold startups and I miss you going over the cars at your dads dealership. I hope you can get back into that again sometime in the future.
That looks like a really solid truck to have some fun with, can't believe somebody just abandoned it. I can see it being turned into a nice, slightly lowered street truck that would be great for light hauling/towing. Will definitely be watching to see how it progresses.
My dad said he’d sell his 1990 Chevy s10 4x4 for $800 so I’m trying to save up for it and these videos make me excited to work on it and give it the love it deserves
Definitely check the fuel system and brakes, have yet to that on my own project truck. Amazing how similar all these compact trucks were in their engineering.
I think you should replace the stock grill with a '92 model grill. I think that is the best looking of all the S10s. I had a red '92 and a black '98 model. wish Chevrolet would bring them back into production.
I picked up a 93 Tahoe last year. It has 88K on its 4.3L with a 5 speed. I have been doing these same little things to it. Tune up-plugs wires cap rotor PCV, brakes front and back, shocks, radiator, heater core, fan clutch, changed inside out lights to all LED, little things that needed to be done. I have yet to spend over $600 on it with me doing all of it myself. Truck runs like brand new. I also lowered mine. I did a 5/7 with some 18"/20" wheels on it that I already had. I ran all belltech except the 3" coils. The belltech Coils with te 4.3L dropped the front all the way down to lower a-arm to frame about 4.5". I sent them back to Summit and ordered the DJM and they lower the front right at 3". Don't know if I got a bad set or what. I look forward to more s10 videos.
A rear disc conversion video would be dope. When I did the conversion I ended up using parts from 2 different style kits to make it work. Would be interesting to see how your mileage varies.
I just bought a 94 s10 blazer with the 4.3l tbi. 291k for 500$. I just got done replacing the heater core. That was a project. After new plugs, wires, fuel and air filter, she runs like a champ. Not a chevy guy, but it was a manual, so I could not pass it up.
All I've ever owned are S-10 base platforms. 90 Jimmy, 97 Jimmy, 98 Sonoma, 2001 Jimmy. Bilstein shocks for the only thing to put on these. I can't remember if your Jimmy was a vortec or body fuel injection, you put a different spring in the fuel pressure regulator and put another gasket to raise the throttle. I can't tell you how much it gives you but it sure makes a big difference going up hills and on the butt Dyno.
I love these trucks, I feel dropping them ruins their looks but to each their own. On the list of updates, a fuel-injected throttle body 350 of the same era should bolt up to that 700r4 nicely and give a nice power boost without going crazy. Great videos man!
A restomod sounds about right for this project. Would be cool to see some modern safety features added to an old truck like this as well (lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind spot detector, rearview/backup camera, etc.).
2/3 or 3/4 drop on some Camaro iroc rims, fresh coat of red paint, tint the windows, rollpan in the back and painted grille and smooth front bumper and call it done. Keep it simple and tasteful and something anyone of your viewers could accomplish in their driveway at home.
I'd do subtle mods, wheels and tyres, upgrade the brakes to performance brakes, some air suspension so you can adjust the ride height if you need to haul stuff round and just overhaul the engine. Great vid as always :)
Yeah man looks good glad to see more of te s10 builds or repairs like this . I just finished engine swap on my 85 chevy s10 2.54cyl to 2.8v6 engine swap. Hopefully have another s10 my self ha the addiction is bad lol .
My take on the project is this: If it's a 4 by 2, I'm ok if you want to lower it, so long as it can still carry 5-700 lbs of stuff. Go wild on the rear suspension, a well linked up solid axle or even IRS! Some big Ford SUVs come with beefy IRS. Adapt one of those to the S 10 if you like. Wonder if there's a kit out for IRS? Do what you want with the engine and transmission. I'd swap in a six speed manual, but that's me. If you can get a better automatic (later model, more gears, better mileage, etc.) CHEAPLY, go for it! Do learn from GM specials that used the S 10 chassis for ideas.
Sweet Kyle!!, I own a black 1991 S10 Extended Cab Tahoe with the 4.3 and the 4spd auto with overdrive. You got a steal on that truck. but on dropping the truck, It's your call, but I would keep that Tahoe stock height with those beautiful wheels;) Thanks for the video on cleaning the interior of your Jimmy, It was a massive help with transforming my once dirty original old S10 into a showroom-worthy masterpiece. The seat belt trick and the power extracter were great ideas.
Install LED lighting front and rear, full interior restoration, full detailing, audio upgrade, some simple engine upgrade (turbo, maybe, make it performs like Typhoon). I also thinking about brake (rear disk brake if possible) and suspension upgrade (don't lower it, but make it more comfortable)
Me too, everyone and their brother wants to do car reviews. I haven't taken any press cars lately because I just haven't had time. To be honest, I don't enjoy filming reviews like I used to.

I had an '82 (v6, 3 sp Auto) and '91 4.3L TBI (and 98 blazer w/ 4.3 SPFI). The TBI setup was really nice, no problems, reliable injection, unlike the 98 Blazer's SPFI system. These were such good trucks, will be watching for sure! I'm surprised the oil filter was not remote mounted in the engine bay along the drivers side fender like my 91 4x4 was???
1.Detail the van or maybe do a rustoleum respray. 2.change all the hose 3.respray the airfilter 4.full serving the engine maybe change radiator and battery too -my idea of content you should do
Just an idea for some more content viewers. Make this a low rider (air bags) with a small block with comp cams and some weld racing wheels and flownasters.
3" front 4" rear drop change diff fluid replace the brake shoes and pads replace back bumper with roll pan thats the basic things if ya wanna keep it simple oh n since ya dropping it 15x10 wheels look good

Lowkey want to pay this man to fully restore my 95 S10. Not even see it on the channel but this man fixes things, does it right, and makes it perfect.
Better have big money ready to spend for a professional restoration. Good luck.
