I was spending about $300/ month just on canned cat food. And I’m getting the higher quality that doesn’t have a lot of fillers. But in todays economy, it’s not affordable. I’m looking for homemade recipe ideas. Thank you for sharing this with us.
This is probably even a lot cheaper than the premium foods and if you’re worried about the nutritional value, you can add this as a topper to their kibble adjusting the amount so you don’t over feed
Thanks so much!!! I used this for my cat and she enjoyed it. Only alterations I did was use bone broth and replaced some of the shell with bones from the broth. I dehydrate the soft broth bones and egg shells, grind them to a powder for her and my chickens. I left the meat larger because it’s cute to see her chew😅. I let my dad’s German shepherd sample and she flipped her bowl when she had to go back to her canned food.
I'm glad your kitty liked it. I like your variations. Kitty's are cute chomping on their food. We have a GS too. I have two of my homemade dog food recipes on my channel. Check them out, I bet he will not turn his bowl over. Thank you for your comment on variations. I'm going to try. Thank you for your view ❤️
This is an amazing food recipe for cats but I can’t stress this enough. DO NOT add salt to your cats food!! If you use chicken stock/broth make sure it has a low sodium content. The littlest bit of salt is SUPER toxic for cats along with onion and garlic
Thank you for your feedback. I hope your kittys like this recipe. I do a lot of research as well as veterinarian recommended recipes and ingredients. I use my homemade bone broth or water in recipes as well as recommend adjusting salt based on sodium level in the salmon. I love my animals and want to feed them the best foods. Please share with me the salt danger that you mentioned here. Thank you so much for your concern. It's greatly appreciated.
@@stirthepot2022 Salt can lead to salt poisoning, which causes water deprivation in cats. It can also lead to symptoms like vomiting, fever, diarrhea, excess thirst and tremors. In severe cases, it can also cause death. Excess sodium over time can lead to high blood pressure, like it can with us humans. Clinical findings suggest that salt consumption of more than 41 milligrams a day could become poisonous to cats, which is less than 1/16th of a teaspoon of salt. It’s best to keep cats away from salty foods especially if they have urinary or kidney problems. If I add any broth or stock to my cats food I make sure its sodium content is 35mg or less and I’ll add only half of a cup if I make a large batch of food along with a half of a cup of water, maybe less, depending on which recipes and ingredients I use. I hope this helps!!!! I will also mention that cats CAN have cheese with low sodium content, but only as an occasional treat in small amounts
I agree that she probably doesn't need to add any more salt to this recipe. When I do fold DIY cat food, I add a dash of Redmond real salt every once in a while. Salt is necessary. And garlic is not toxic in small amounts. I use garlic granules for a natural flea and tick repellent for my dogs and cat.

Has anyone's cat tried this yet? I made a similar recipe tonight, and all three of my cats turned their nose up to it. I even gave it to the feral cat in our neighborhood and he didn't eat it either. So frustrating I have a whole batch of food in my fridge now that no one will eat.
Hello, that is frustrating. I've had that happen with recipes. My cat enjoyed this recipe. If you have a dog or know someone with one they will eat just about any homemade recipe and I'm sure what you made is nutritious. Take you and God Bless ♥️

Donna, gelatin seems a like such a great idea! I actually make unseasoned bone broth for soups, but I make some batches just for my kitties to have when they are sick or to add to food. But gelatin seems wonderful who can't be bothered or don't have the time to make broths!
Hi, thank you so much for this recipe! I have 3 young male cats that were previously feral/strays that I know they will love this homemade food so much. This was by far the most approachable method for homemade cat food I've found! I'm also a cooking channel, and I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Thanks again :)
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to sub and comment. I've always been a cat person. We help feed a small colony of ferals and I have kidnapped a couple liters to hand feed and adopt out. Nothing sweeter than a kitten. Your channel is awesome, you got a new fan in me. Can't wait to see what you cook up next. God Bless ❤
This is one of the better homemade cat food recipes I've seen. I personally feed Raw, but you could do this one Raw if you wanted to. I would try to throw in some kidney now and then if you can find it. I wouldn't add any more salt. I would consider adding some ground up eggshell because he don't probably have enough calcium with just what's in the salmon. And I would definitely skip the sunflower oil and just use the coconut oil. Much less inflammatory. And you can always modify this recipe and use all different kinds of proteins. My cats love pork. But they also eat beef, turkey, chicken, Cornish game, hen, salmon, sardines, mackerel, etc. etc. Variety is the key.
I like this recipe (and your kitchen! lol) and I want to try it. My cats are all 10 years old, except for one we don't know her age, and they've eaten commercial pate and dry all their lives. I want to get them off of all of that junk (it's Purina One dry and Sheba Perfect Portions) but they are VERY picky. The consistency might be an issue for them but we'll see. If it is I will put it in the food processor and puree it. They love soft, smooth wet food. Thanks again for sharing!
The food last 4-5 days in the frig, think of it like leftovers. Depending on your cat's activity level, a 13lb cat eats 3/4 to 1 cup per day. I hope you try this recipe in your home. Thank you for reaching out.
If I use bone broth can I omit the gelatin? Could I not cook this recipe? Yes I would cook the salmon with the skin, would I need to add some bone powder?

Hi your recipe sounds great, I haven’t watched the full video yet but since my parents don’t want to buy the salmon, can I replace it with extra eggshells? Another question: How much food by cup would you recommend feeding for a 20 pound cat who wants to lose weight and a 13 pound cat? (Yes, I know he is big) The 20 pound cat is much more active than the 13 pound one.
Hello, salmon and eggs have different nutrients. You could replace the salmon with another fish for omega's. The eggs shells add calcium. Take care and God Bless ♥️

I'm now left with supplements to ensure he and my others are getting proper nutrition. Do u know the phosphorous, protein, and calorie count in ur recipes? Is there a list of nutrients? I'm going to try you're recipe. I have a young cat that has constipation issues all the time. I feed my cat good food . Most of good cat food does not have grain. I will try making home made cat food. I hope this works
I hope it works for your kitty too. My cat has firm poop but does not get constipated. I hope I didn't just jinx myself. Let me know how your kitty does. Thank you for your view.
Your recipe seems to be very healthy and delicious but I have noticed that cats love more fresh raw meat even in small quantities. Because I don't like to cook too much I mix 4spoon of boiled rice 1 spoon of raw gronded chicken,1spoon of raw liver(beef or chicken) , 4-5 crystal of ungrounded salt, a pinch of dried garlic and 1 teaspoon of unactive yeast. It is cheaper for me and my 3 kittens adore this food .❤️🐈🐈🐈❤️
Hello Thank you for stopping by and sharing. I am not a fan of feeding raw. Most of the meats from grocery stores have been sitting for who only knows how long. Bacteria grows and for this reason I cook all my meats. I do know many feed raw to cats and dogs. There are pros and cons with either. Take care and God bless!!
Thank you for your view. Cooking kills bacteria, the food is for domestic cats. Lightly cooking does not remove all nutrients, and it makes some of the other ingredients more digestible. Thank you again!! 😊
@@stirthepot2022 Sorry but cats are not affected by bacteria in the same way humans are due to their short stomachs and stronger stomach acid. Cats managed just fine before the invention of commercial cat food. If you’re trying to replicate that then fair enough, but in my opinion if you’re going to the trouble of preparing your own food then you may as well go the whole hog and raw feed. Batch prep, portion and freeze and just defrost day by day. More nutritious and less faff
@@Channel23-Awen there are cases of cats becoming ill from ALL foods. Cats are hardwired to eat raw food. You want to feed them cooked food or wet food or dry food then go ahead, but that fact will never change. You don’t need to be an expert to utilise the endless and readily available information at all of our fingertips, sport.
what a lot of these YT and TT videos don't care to take into consideration is that not everyone looks at their pet and sees a "fur baby", I see an animal. I enjoy its company and I would prefer (keyword there) that it be well fed and healthy. But my pocketbook will trump those desires 100% of the time. I don't feed cats dry food because I'm cruel or don't care I do it because a very large bag of it costs me $15, it lasts me a month and keeps my cat from dying. These videos though are made for yuppie hipster cat/dog parents that put their pets in sweaters and booties and more importantly have the disposable income to do it (I don't). A sentiment I could never share given the sheer amount of human suffering in the world. I just want a recipe I can pull off quickly during the weekend, freeze, and thaw as needed and will compete with dry food on price or failing that compete with purchased wet food on price when the bulk amount is factored in, and will simultaneously not make my apartment smell like a slaughterhouse every time I serve it. And sadly I have yet to find those videos. No, I will not go out and buy food that is better than what I eat and chop it up and give it to my animal. Quite frankly they do not deserve it (and you cannot prove otherwise). When I was in HS I would go to the butcher shop and purchase offal and discarded cuts/trimmings, the prices were very reasonable as they would just throw them out at the end of the day anyway. We would put them in a pot and feed it to our dogs along with any leftovers in the fridge we were sure to throw away. The dogs absolutely loved it, cleaned their bowls every time and they all reached 15. Why isn't there something similar for cats?
Hello johnsondoendi9224, thank you for your comment. I understand your position, and I'm sure many share the same. I can also remember as a child feeding our pets a lot of leftovers. Commercially prepared pet food is very economical in fact, we feed a colony of 9 strays this all the time, and a few are now late seniors. The commercial foods in most cases, are not as nutritious As some homemade foods. Human food, heck all groceries keep increasing in price :( . I do have another cat recipe that I will share soon. I will ask veterinarians and do research to see if I can find a super economical recipe to share. Stay tuned and take care. 🐱❤️
If we feed kibble to our animals, we’re going to pay more vet bills in the future …$15 for a big bag is very cheap food, so your pet is not thriving,it’s just surviving …Usually people that love their pets have a lot of compassion for people in need…. don’t compare apples with oranges.
Oh dear! So many things I'd like to share with you. But you are already very opinionated & what I might want to share will just fall on deaf ears. Altho, all animals die just as humans do but most of these videos & tutorials are to offer up a cheaper yet healthy recipe so; as with humans, the better your diet, the healthier your/their life. It's always sad when a pet outlives their owner but with good nutrition they live a better, healthier life. Sorry you're so strongly opinioted about animals. Otherwise you might learn other ways to inexpensive foods for you cats & other pets. If you look, youll find there is a tutorial that teaches homemade cat food that's cheaper than cheap canned foods. God admonishes us to care well for His animal creation. I think that's what most of us are trying to do. Good life to you
Hello Thank you for stopping by. Haha, no they will not steal a carrot from the garden. They can definitely benefit from the vitamins and nutrients in the veggies. Take care!!
Cats won't steal a carrot from the garden BUT the critter they would kill outside would have partially digested veggies in their stomach so the cat would absolutely be eating a veggie. So cooking the carrot is as close to real life as possible!
Thank you for your comment. The amount of water cats drink do vary. However, most cats do not drink enough water, and if a cat is only on kibble, they get even less water in their diet. You must be fortunate to have cats that drink enough water. That's a blessing. Thank you and take care!!
You know, if you look at any veternarian who knows anything & has studied cat nutrition, they'll tell you more(a LOT)cats die of kidney related diseases due to lack of water intake than any of the other quite common ills; thyroid, diabetes, obesity. If you think your cat drinks a lot of water, you're a leap ahead, but you almost can't get enough water in them. It's totally essential for healthy kidneys which keeps them in better overall health. I'm sorry you have such opinions. Good luck & long life for you and your cats
I'm getting two kittens next week. I will follow and use your recipes to keep them healthy and happy. Thank you. Agatha

@@stirthepot2022 thank u I appreciate it
You should not add salt. I’m sure our food has plenty of salt already
Hello, thank you!! 😊 Take care and God Bless ♥️
Why would you cook that? Cats need raw food and I would think cooking takes much of the nutrients out
Thank you for your view.
Thank you for your feedback.
You cannot shove your opinion down her throat@@BillyBob-kr9xd
what a lot of these YT and TT videos don't care to take into consideration is that not everyone looks at their pet and sees a "fur baby", I see an animal.
@@Just_Lurking8 Well then I guess poor people shouldn't have pets and we can just put the ones we have to sleep.

Cats don't need vegetables. You don't need to add it to your cat food. Your cats not going to steal a carrot from your garden
Hello Thank you for stopping by. Haha, no they will not steal a carrot from the garden. They can definitely benefit from the vitamins and nutrients in the veggies. Take care!!
It is not needed, but it does help them with digestion and bowel movement.
Cats won't steal a carrot from the garden BUT the critter they would kill outside would have partially digested veggies in their stomach so the cat would absolutely be eating a veggie. So cooking the carrot is as close to real life as possible!
Ok she had me until she lied & said cats don't drink a lot of water.. 😮
