ABOUT CIVILIZATION VI: GATHERING STORM
The second expansion to Civilization VI introduces an active planet where geology and climatology present unique new challenges. Chart a path to victory by developing new advanced technologies and engineering projects and negotiating with the global community in the World Congress on critical issues. The choices you make in the game will influence the world ecosystem and could impact the future of the entire planet. Natural disasters like floods, storms, and volcanoes can pillage or destroy your Improvements and Districts - but they may also refresh and enrich the lands after they pass.

Will you play as the Maori in Civilization VI: Gathering Storm? What excites you most about this civ?
Пожалуйста, добавьте Швейцарию в игру.
Will your capital gain more population the longer it's in the ocean before you settle it
They look like a really good Civ to play as. Powerful abilities.
It's tough for Maori Civilization by starting at the ocean tile to find a good place to settle on nearby island.
I absolutely love how versatile they are they definitely have a good military early on and they seem to have a good chance of getting a culture victory as well and since you have ships and sailing right away you can definitely start expanding very quickly I’m super excited for this Civ for sure
starting in the ocean? wild
Reminds me of the Vaulters in Endless Space 2 : they're the only ones who don't start on a home planet, instead you have to wheel your mothership (which is also a re-usable settler unit on a cooldown, meaning you don't have to build Settler ships) to a planet of your liking before starting to build.

Worth pointing out, just for cool trivia's sake, the Maori concept of mana doesn't track one to one with the fantasy term. Think of it more like a combination of respect from the community, social standing and ancestral authority.

He is gonna be nerfed with the first patch ...
but after most people bought it. Most of the time developers make new characters more op to sell. (But the explain it: "it is so hard to balance, we don't do it on purpose")
Urge Less they said he was already nerfed in play testing recently so doubt it not to mention they will be more map reliant off of island plates, archipelago and fractal
true
Plus if your playing random leaders on a map with no coast your kinda fucked lol
I don't think he'll be nerfed, because of the very nature of the game. He's all about the coasts and sailing. Think what could happen late game if global warming raises the sea levels, and all his earliest cities are flooded from the coasts.
Finally a New Zealand civ. I love how uniquely they've designed them. Starting in the ocean to find a homeland is awesome.
Thumbs up for Haka War Dance!
I'm in love with this. I loved playing Polynesia in Civ5 and just leaving the Pangaea to settle on little islands of my own so that nobody would find me for quite some time. The only down side being that others would be in the classical era before I had ever even settled, but here you're compensated for taking a bit longer to choosing where to settle.

The Fox of Laurels not really. The other broken civ is the cree. They basically control the start of the game and make so much money you never even build a troop.
This makes me so happy i've watched it about a thousand times.
I'm actually from New Zealand. This is so cool to see! Firaxis obviously does its research. It's almost a little eerie seeing a part of our culture reflected in such a large franchise.
An awesome addition to CIV! More different starting mechanics and innovations like this would be awesome. Try with more of these powerful but hard to master characters. You could also change some existing civ's to where they are more different from each other with starting mechanics like this.
What can I say except they look great?
I like the sound of this civ
It's actually unique too
Wow...looks like my new favourite island map civ! But the bonuses to forests and rainforests and the unique Amphitheatre would be pretty solid on Pangaea as well.
Being from New Zealand I am so excited for the release of this DLC. I love the animations of the leader and the amount of special buildings and warriors makes it a unique civ.
I’m still hoping for a Hawaiian civ led by King Kalakaua.
@Hoàng Nguyên We didn't invade it. What happened was that a group of white men who were the descendants of missionaries grouped together and took over, then offered the territory to the US. The Congress was then put in a tough spot, because the world stage was a big fan of Hawaii, but certain men in the congress wanted the port of US use, and kept delaying the voting, which was in favor of freeing Hawaii again. It went on for decades like that, with votes to free Hawaii continuously delayed all the way to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, at which point the territory became too valuable to give up. It's quite shameful, and trust me, we are told so in school.
Hoàng Nguyên no the Hawaiian king literally betrayed his country and gave all of his land to rich white men
I knew it , Maori,im so hyped for gathering storm

What a great Civ concept!! love it!
Im pretty sure Im about to test the Maori first, seems like a really fun and still strong civ to me
Same I love naval civs and I love tribal civs. This is ticking all my boxes, if we get Inca now that's all I want.
If I had to nitpick about one thing, it'd be that the Maori of Kupe's time (initial settlement) were less like classic Maori and more like just any other Polynesian culture. New Zealand back then, and especially after the extinction of the moa, was an unusually inhospitable place because most tropical staple crops like breadfruit and coconuts couldn't grow there, forcing the Maori to change in ways that made them different from the other Polynesian peoples.
That is true. I suppose they may have chosen Kupe as he is a pivotal ancestor that a majority of Māori society can relate to as opposed to all of the different eponymous ancestors that came into being during the classical formation of Māori society .
@@jovansteel They could have chosen other prominent Maori historical figures, but they'd come with some major baggage. Te Rauparaha is hated by South Island Maori because he tried to conquer them, and Hongi Hika is widely reviled for leading a wholesale slaughter of much of Auckland, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Kupe is a safe call, but he's a legendary figure who we have no solid evidence for.
@@frostyguy1989 I agree there aren't really any historical Māori leaders who could be considered to hold a unified notion of a Māori civilisation without contestation. Māori do have long geneological recitations going all the way back to Kupe and ancestral stories but it's a matter if that can be regarded as solid evidence, for Māori I suppose it does.
@@frostyguy1989 All though I would've loved to see Te Rauparaha be the leader(He basically was emperor, lets be honest), It would indeed cause a lot of backlash. So I'd have to agree with Jovansteel and say that Kupe was the safer bet, even having to trade off with inaccuracy, I can accept it.\
Edit: As for solid evidence; when did Maori ever have such a thing? Whakapapa is hardly solid evidence in the Pakeha worldview.
@@LaughableSynonyms Te Rauparaha was no where near a emperor, he was forced out of his homelands and thus joined the raids being lead by an entirely different tribe (Ngapuhi) to the South. It was after Ngapuhi returned home that Te Rauparaha moved in and established his presence in the Wellington area trading with European colonist

"The Maori's unique unit is the Toa."
Hate to sound offensive but BRING ON THE BIONICLE REFERENCES!!! If it weren't for Bionicle, I would not have gotten a fascination with both Pacific and Asian cultures, and THAT is the truth.
I was thinking about Bionicle when they said Toa, too. It's weird that they would call the unit that because in both Matoran and Maori Toa means hero.
@Caleb Collier "Yes, dahling, I know."
@@legodudelol9a Toa isn't the only word that Bionicle used, almost all of the the names for anything (Characters and titles) in the Mata nui-era bionicle are borrowed from the maori, this is literally the closest we can get to playing as the Bionicle faction without mods!
Bionicle was a Maori reference, not the other way round. I think the unit was meant to be called the taua which roughly translated means "war party." A toa (sounding similar) was just a spear.
@@frostyguy1989 I know that, but the point I am making is that thanks to Bionicle, I have a life long interest in the Maori culture.

Oh good spot, that is huge! No great writers either is a strange one.
Stefanos G cuz there was a point in their history where they nearly lost their whole language let alone writing and the resourc thing is due to their environmentalism. I wouldn't worry about the no writers though because their ub will be insane for both religion and culture victories
@@Jotunn96 culture victory Maori Hardmode 👍
@Husarz Always thinking the white people did it, lol. Yeah, they kinda brought it upon themselves. They lived on small islands and such and by cutting down enough trees, you will eventually kinda destroy your island. Haven't you seen Moana?
Husarz the language thing was just because they didn't place value in written language or recorded history and instead placed more emphasis on visual storytelling and the environmental thing wasn't a particular event more just their cultural values. I'm not an expert though but I do find their culture very interesting and would recommend doing your own research. They also cannibalised their enemies and collected their hollowed skulls btw.
