One thing I think most people don't really pick up on is that the Toa has a lot of value in naval combat because any ship can escort a melee unit, meaning any naval or coastal combat across any era can be augmented by this -5 debuff. It has no maintenance or strategic resource cost so there is no major downside keeping Toas around for multiple eras without upgrading them, and their movement can be boosted by a classical era great general to allow them to wade into a flanking position and then bail out before they get obliterated by a Rifleman or Field Cannon for example.

I’ve never even considered this, but I rarely run into situations where I have naval battles

Toa is sus, but otherwise a really cool civ with cool bonuses. Gaul is strong and unique but maori felt much cooler. Enjoying the videos bud

Im gonna try the maori tonight. I know you say they start off behind but the ability to jump across to an island or new continent early on to avoid being boxed in is great. I started a game recently and was squashed into a corner early on. It looks like it could be a lot of fun. good stuff.

I find that if I spread out overseas early like that I end up with individual cities that can’t help support each other, so each city tries to do too much

@@STGSheep I broke it up early and have managed to spread out on both sides. But I can see your point. This way I have a base to work with Vs both continents.
