Got what I think is my second Deity win Portugal), partly in thanks to watching how you play. What was strange was it was a Standard size game (Archipelago) on Console and with, Secret Societies(Owls), Barbarian Clans, Monopolies, Heroes, all on. I'd won by about turn 120 or so, just needed to play it out and won Diplomatic by accident, I was going for a Science win, though Culture and Domination were all theoretically possible. THE BEST BIT WAS IT NEVER CRASHED ONCE WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME!!! Honestly towards the end I was beginning to panic.
I did a one city challenge using the Ethiopia Great Bath strategy once. It was terrifying though because I had to cross my fingers for the last 30 turns and hope I wouldn't lose to a meteor hitting my capital. Pumping soothsayer charges into the great bath river really speeds up the global warming.
You're forgetting Yerevan, which is also a source of relics early on since it's basically a diet Mount St Michel and lets you pick martyr on all your apostles. And it synergises very well with Mount St Michel once you build it too, since you can choose whatever promotion you want and still benefit from martyr.
Last week I was playing relic game with Poland. No void relics as well just wonder that gives martyr ability to all apostles. Saint Basil and Cristo are broken with it.
I love faith eco games, always so fun and Ethiopia are one of my favourites for it. Oromo tend to be a bit underwhelming but on a very hilly map like this I can see them being really useful. Teddy better get ready for a good ol' pillaging!
Ursa, remember, you MUST get Ark of the Covenant in your capital for you to win. All other relics are great, but Ethiopia, Menelik and the Ark of the Covenant are very important to Ethiopian culture.
Ursa, i started a Brasil game. I had one of the most rigged starts ever. Map: Arboreal (Jungle) I spawned next to a Wonder, got Hercules as a hero, and Kandy like 6 turns to the left. I managed to get the suzerain bonus of Kandy, the Sacred Path belief and some lovely lovely relics. I gained like 6 relics around turn 80-100. Now i'm generating like 1,200 faith per turn. I'm happy. Very happy. :)
32:34 I agree that gold upfront makes more sense most of the times, but you were with negative income in this instance. So a bit of gold per turn would be nice to make it positive or even.
The volcanos in this game really makes me want to play a game on the Geothermal map from Alternate Cartography. And I believe it was here where I first laid eyes on that beauty of a map.
This game is why I think Void Singers are hands down the best secret society. No matter what type of victory you are going for, Void Singers are great and you can pick them up after putting points into Pingala and Magnus and not suffer for it. You only need 2 governor titles to get massive value from them. Owls are the second best because of their policy slots which can work for any victory but you need 3 titles to make them at their peak (and Owls can hardlock your game if you pick them first with someone like Kublai Khan who have extra policy slots.) Vamps are good for Science and Dom because you can get so much production in your capital to make space projects come out in like 5 turns (plus you can get every wonder you want, like 8 turn Ruhr Valley) and obviously Vamps can wreck cities for dom play. Hermetic Society can be as good as Owls and Void IF you RNGesus is on your side, and can be trash if you aren't blessed.
Owls are in my opinion the best when you use them well with city states - your yields are normally amazing in everything, but yeah void is amazing consistently if you play heavy faith
@@UrsaRyan yeah it's definitely the optimal strat, I tend to rush grand masters chapel and Moksha and buy units and districts with faith and either dominate or tourism win. Also idk if you knew this but the LOTR locations are names after Ethiopian cities. Gondar/Gondor, Rohan/Roha (old name for lalibela) the tree in the middle of the city of Gondar is what inspired the tree in LOTR Gondor and so on. Tolkien is South African so he took some inspiration from the only independent African kingdom of that time.
After the hiatus during the recent series, this was a quality return of the Huzzah. Arabia Huzzahs, Settler Huzzas, Faith Per Turn Huzzahs (not to mention the city called Harah). All is well again.
@@UrsaRyan I mean you had a floodplains 2 tiles from an active volcano surrounded by plains hills, which generally is pretty good. Get a strong farm triangle and improve all the volcanic hills. It's a great start if you move like you did. But legendary usually jams like 8 or 9 resources around your spawn.
does it really make a difference via which unit you convert your faith into relics? cultists might be slightly more efficient, but apostles start earlier...
One difference in my experience, is that sometimes the AI is stingy and hides all of their religious units when you sent your matyr apostles out to get killed, whereas with cultists you only need to use up their charges, so it's more reliably attainable. It also sucks if you barrel down the reliquaries path and then lose out on Mont St Michel and there's no Yerevan in the game, in which case many of your apostles won't be able to get the matyr promotion. So again, the difference is mostly in how easy it is to reliably convert the units into relics. Also, wasn't there an issue in the game with Otter when after obtaining a certain number of relics of the void, cultists stop producing them, thus limiting how many you can obtain?
This one's looking fun already! Still love the fact that the extra challenges we sling at you make for a more challenging but amusing game.
I very much appreciate the game ideas, keep em coming!
I got a start like this on my most recent Norway run. I was planning on domination but opted for a pure faith game
Norway makes a suprisingly good faith game to be fair!
Ursa, you need to go for scouts! Same though... I get half way into my second scout and then I find a family of them in huts.
Harar is primed & ready for Petra. No great campus for University of Sankore, but I'm sure you can find somewhere for The Best Wonder.
Do you mean Oxford?

A no crash game is honestly the most amazing and disconcerting thing

Post patch it really does!!! Man that would be one awesome way to lose a game though huh!

rng as to whether it appears but yes, a great city state

Saint Basil and Cristo are broken with it.
Veyr, very strong! Voidsingers make it even better but it's not needed with some luck
Keep it up Ursa! I love that you're sticking to your niche of civ 6! I mainly play civ 5 but it's awesome to see high level vs AI gameplay.

Fun Game! Worth noting, the sooth sayer has like 4 maintenance cost. Having it hang around can be costly. In any case, great content as always!
Yeah they take a lot of gold - cheeky people!
This one should be wild. Loving this whole A-Z series! Great content as always
Thanks Justin = )

It would be hilarious if Ethiopia started putting up dams with Egypt just down the river.

Just finished (a minute ago) watching your religious victory with Ethiopia - such a fun and strong civ
Lady of the Reeds and Marshes on a wetlands map to supplement all the hills? Sounds plump! Mmmm!
31:50 Gondar calls for aid
potato did a game if I remember right where he did apocalypse mode and great bath with ethiopia and he had crazy faith yields from making it flood
This seems like a fun game. Nice little Petra option you have there...
Also; this is a crazy start for Ethiopia on a Wetlands map.
This one looks like one I may try and emulate. Tasty!
Do it! Suprisingly effective XD
Ethiopia is one of my favourite civs :D
Decent Petra city near 1st Barb camp eliminated, NW of Kabul. Space for Pyramids, Jebel Barkal, and more.
Commenting on the video to support the channel.
Ursa: I'm gonna rush Great Bath.
Then proceeds to build a monument and a builder before the wonder 😂
Oooh this is going to be good
Severe attackage the aggressive negotiation of civ
*poisonous Ethiopian caterpillar algorithm game*
DUDE - that's insane
8 mins in and im convinced that you borrowed Potato's script to get a relic from goody hut.
Haha - I didn't realise only Potato could get relics :P
I'll take a triple scout start if I can get it. Sometime I have a 4 scout start by getting 2 free scouts.
I feel like people rely to heavily on relic gameplay for the Ethiopia civ. It's actually a really versatile civ tbh
Very versitile! Relic play works so well because the faith translates to other yields

It's Ethiopian New Year
Ethiopia you say? And no relics of the void? Blasphemy!
Haha - I know, I got so jealous of your run playing this game - I missed those void relics so bad!
i think the fire goddess pantheon would have also been cool for this game, i hardly ever see it used
I'm still on C, oh Ryan save me
£143 - Is a bath really that great when it's not at the University of Sankore?
Puts legendary start on and starts with no 4 yield tiles next to settler and only a couple resources within 3 tiles lol

This might sound odd, how does a a vanilla culture victory game with no game-changing mods sound? It's just kind of a nostalgia thing for me.
I'll always keep the content varied, don't worry!
I'd hvae taken the settler and just deleted it if i didn't think i could hold it.
