I listen to Civ 6 videos and others at work with an earpiece and sometimes it's hard to hear in a factory environment so I really appreciate VanBradley yelling his stuff so I can actually always hear.
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any tricks you can give me!
Appreciate your clarity and conciseness in presentation. Potato and many other Civ6 creators tend toward long videos with a lot of fluff. You are straight to the point with solid strategy recommendations. I have limited time for researching the game and videos like this provide great value for the time commitment. Thank you.
love how you have showcased the absolute crazy potential of this new district here. I'd like to add as well that all this eye candy is done without Eiffel Tower in play! In My Vietnam Game (same game as VB is playing on youtube, but on Emperor difficulty) I have won a culture victory without depending on great people or theatre squares. I did this with 3 fully upgraded industries, a bunch of National Parks, all the wonders I could muster to build and utilized 3 Rock Bands to push the win! The potential with the new industries / Preserve combination makes it absolutely possible to win a culture victory without a single theatre square! That is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Stay true to your energetic self VanBradley! Your content for Civ 6 is by far my most favorite out of all the people I follow! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
I was skeptical at best but holy hell the culture catapulted me forward and with just 2 theater districts (though... about 9 preserves) I was consistently at least 1 full age ahead of everyone. Haven't seen a single AI build them so far though... not to mention I tacked spots all over for like 8 national parks, built just 2 and my tourism was already over 100 (still in BC years)
well to be honest the best early game civs for the preserve are brazil and vietnam. vietnam ofc cause they can chop rainforests and replant trees. brazil cause rainforests give +1 appeal. marches are rare anyway and basically not existing in bigger forest/rainforest areas. they can use the preserve early on, to get a much stronger early game. while vietnam can defend itself alot better and be greedy at the same time. while bull moose america gives you some nice yields, you are much more dependant on rng to get the whole preserve rolling. the true powerhouse civ in the lategame for the preserve is in my opinion the maori. your marae gives +1culture/faith and your ability +1/2/4 production. with earth godess, marae and your passiv you are looking at 2 food/science/gold, 3 culture, 5 faith and 6 production on top of the yields on the tile. 20 bonus yields on a single tile is crazy. even if you dont overlap preserves the 6 tiles around a preserve net you 120 bonusyields 36 of which are production. you can even go for a science victory with the maori. you get golden ages easily and you can simply take the boost that gives you as much science as you have harbour/commercial district adjacensies. you get harbours rlly fast, they increase your food/gold and you get +3-+5 gold easily for each harbour. now get that much science for free. you basically use harbour/holy/theatre. get lots of science/food/culture/faith/gold, trade routes en masse and production for free as well. you can simply use waterparks so you dont have to waste space on your land. then top it off by using reyna to get another 2 gold on all unimproved tiles. its just getting ridiculous :) and im lovin' it. the preserves are just the icing on top. maori are my standard pick for maps with more water while vietnam is for landbased maps. since i like to turtle and go for culture games i rlly love those 2 and the preserve is a perfect addition in my opinion.
This video made me smile! I'm loving them too. One thing I like is that the 3 housing and bonus food can quickly push you to your next district slot, off setting the cost of building them over another district. :)
You are absolutely right Tim. In my test so far I believe building the Preserve combined with Industries, National Parks, Wonders and perhaps some Rock Bands. The Culture Victory can be accomplished without building a single theatre Square!!! Which means instead of utilizing your district slot for a theatre square ... you drop a preserve! doesn't change the slots required ... just makes it easier than managing great works etc. ROCK ON
I was wondering about making desert or tundra more livable with Canada and the Inca respectively, You can build the Incan special farm on desert hills. Well the pantheon that gives plus one food to desert tiles is useless (and the one that gives plus one to tundra is really only useful for Canada and arguably Russia) because it takes two food to maintain a civilian , There is a pantheon that gives plus food to oasis and floodplains (go figure) So I had my most productive city actually built in the middle of a desert with a mountain nearby. Mansa Musa is kind of useless because desert is generally useless if he had a food bonus maybe a plus one with the gold bonus then you could make it livable but....no. You need a very certain specific kind of roll of dice on the map to make his bonus viable.
Just started my first game after buying the new frontiers pass. I was a bit overwhelmed with new rules modes and districts. Your video was helpful to incorporate Preserve into my game. Thanks!
Apologies! I got really hyped. Just yesterday I went through and adjusted all my audio settings to make it all better. Hopefully it shall get less shouty shouty ❤
Yes, they’re a specialty district so you still need the population to build the district and can only build one per city! The extra housing really helps boost the population up to the next threshold though which is awesome!
Preserves are bonkers...... until one of your forests start burning. And suddenly your entire empire is burning and you're franatically buying builders to chop some lines into the continuous forestation to limit the spread. I mean, I was playing on a map of north america (with TSL) and I was laughing that the entire Canada was ON FIRE since like, turn 70... but here I am on turn 164 and now my beautiful forests caught on fire too! AND I found out that thanks to a mod allowing me to place some districts on forest without destroying it... well... IT STILL BURNS, I just can't chop it. So now the fire is going to burn my whole darn empire.. or at least more than half of it - cause I can't chop national parks either. Don't even have enough free promotions to have Liang as a barricade to fire.
yes but only 3 cities. Also I get 8 prod from a mine. I use all special resources. preserve don't give prod for a while. 8 prod from lumber mil . I build Ruhr with a great engineer. Put theatres next to entertainment and harbors next to commercial
I tried this I failed. The position of preserve is good. But lacking of appeal even though I remove marsh rainforest and no mines. Now I'm behind. Maybe I try it on different map. Thanks always for creating this in dept tutorial
I don't know about that - is this (going preserves-first) viable on high difficulty? You're gonna have fewer great people points, fewer traders and, most importantly, lower science at the most important stage of the game. I can't imagine this is better than CH or campus first with any civ.
it is decent if you can put a triangle of city around some natural wonders and if you stretched city centers a bit. It's a little bit winmore but it saves builder charges and as it gives food and pop so it's decent long term macro yet very greedy indeed. It follows up well into monumentality and it builds fast. Definitely decent when justified.
Great demo video of how the preserve can be used. Have you/anyone noticed a bug with Vietnam where you get culture from a district on rainforest instead of science? +1 culture is supposed to be on woods and +1 science on rainforest. I built on rainforest and got extra culture from the modifiers.
They are amazing with the Cliffs, but have no impact on water tiles. Water tiles don't have appeal, IIRC. The reef would improve the adjacent land tiles, though, which WOULD be strong.
Preserves are awesome, though for me it really depends on the map if I use them or not. My rule of thumb for preserves is that they all six hexes around it should be passable land tiles for the preserve to be worth it (with exception to the Inca, I suppose, since they can work mountain tiles). On my current archipelago map, there's just no room whereas in my last game, a Europe map, I was able to get a preserve in about half of my cities. Also, I noticed the AI makes preserves. Poorly. One of them put a preserve on a one-tile island and that elicited a bit of a facepalm from me.
Oooh bet i understand so you could unlock it right away to make the video, totally makes sense maybe I was too high or not high enough when I commented I was just confused 😬
Later on specialists way outweigh the efficiency of individual tiles since your pop total will greatly outnumber the number of tiles. This is why preserves make no sense to me.
Seems OP for religious victory since you don't need any other kind of Great People. Since religious pressure depends on popuation, the extra food and housing is absolutely a bonus.
I listen to Civ 6 videos and others at work with an earpiece and sometimes it's hard to hear in a factory environment so I really appreciate VanBradley yelling his stuff so I can actually always hear.
Loud and proud 😂
Agreed. He speaks so clearly and easy to hear. Proper amount of volume
WHAT , WHAT DID YOU SAY?
HES SELLING CHOCOLATE 🍫
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any tricks you can give me!
@Briggs Lawson Instablaster ;)
Preserves are also good to buff the adjacent tiles to volcanos that never stop erupting.

ROCK ON
You're getting a preserve, and you're getting a preserve, and EVERYONE IS GETTING A PRESERVE!
And what about throwing in there Reyna and the forestry management promotion ? :)
This is like a classic american commercial, where everything is awesome, just loved it!
Dude, everything about preserves IS AWESOME. I’m in love with them, such a fun district
combine with earth goddess and bull moose teddy to get even more crazy yields.

And slap a vampire castle in the middle
Finally understand culturebomb... Still learning. But can win on King difficulty now. Moving up.
Then you have the other side of each of the cities to build other districts if you want. Great vid! Thanks for layin this out.
Just started my first game after buying the new frontiers pass.
I was a bit overwhelmed with new rules modes and districts. Your video was helpful to incorporate Preserve into my game. Thanks!
Calm down, Billy Mays. I'm not deaf, but I feel like I'm about to be. 😂
Apologies! I got really hyped. Just yesterday I went through and adjusted all my audio settings to make it all better. Hopefully it shall get less shouty shouty ❤
@@VanBradley That's alright. It was a throwback for me. 😊👍
Do Preserves take up a district slot, and are you limited to one per city?
Yes, they’re a specialty district so you still need the population to build the district and can only build one per city!
The extra housing really helps boost the population up to the next threshold though which is awesome!
Love the enthusiasm 😂👏
I won a diety game with Vietnam building only preserves (no other districts): culture victory with tons of national parks and rock bands.
I thought they were crap. But you’ve sold me. I’ve been using Kupe lately and this would be perfect!
I thought it was +3 charming +4 breathtaking? Or did they change it.
Preserves with the Maori must be awesome!
I only say: Preserve with Ptolemaic Kleopatra.... Or: with Kupe... Love it!

Got a sub-200 deity religion win with Vietnam yesterday. Took about... 8 hours. But I didn't use much in the way of preserves.
yes but only 3 cities. Also I get 8 prod from a mine. I use all special resources. preserve don't give prod for a while. 8 prod from lumber mil . I build Ruhr with a great engineer. Put theatres next to entertainment and harbors next to commercial
I play the Potato Mcwhisky mega industrial set up every game I can. It is so overpowered. It’s great as Germany with the commercial hub bonus
The biggest problem with the preserve district, early in the game, is the Grove building is way too expensive to build.
Does planing woods count as an “improvement?”
It does not
I tried this I failed. The position of preserve is good. But lacking of appeal even though I remove marsh rainforest and no mines. Now I'm behind. Maybe I try it on different map. Thanks always for creating this in dept tutorial
Bullmoose Teddy is the king of Preserves. Not even fair
Can you place a national park right next to a preserve? Like have the preserve in the national park?
You can’t no. The Preserve is a specialty district and counts as an improved tile 👌
@@VanBradley oh ok, thanks
2 for charming, 4 for breathtaking.
America can get some pretty crazy yields with Preserves. Especially with the right Natural Wonder, World Wonder, and Pantheon.
I think of Kupe on top of this. +1-3 extra production on each unimproved forest and rainforest...
I went big on preserves in all my games now
Same here man! They’re so good
I feel like you are trying to sell me a time share. I would love to hear the balanced perspective -- when should I not use them, etc.

It's a specialty district? they shouldn't have made it green.
omg I been ignoring the preserve all this time, omg what I been doing!!!
So confused lol 2003 AD, turn 424… 😅

16:00 in Vienna, so yeah I feel that.
@@avizo2197 lol over here too
Preserves are so fun!!!
Cries in America
It looks useless for pure coastal and desert empires.
What happens if you put it next to a passable wonder like barrier reef or cliffs of dover.
They are amazing with the Cliffs, but have no impact on water tiles. Water tiles don't have appeal, IIRC. The reef would improve the adjacent land tiles, though, which WOULD be strong.
Firaxis should pay you. I just bought New Frontier Pass because of this.
I shall let them know that they owe me big time 👌
I hope you enjoy the content 🎉

That's almost as bad as the one-tile Huey!
Why is he yelling?
He's always yelling, haven't figured out why yet.
Damn. Your videos are too good. I need to get back to playing Civ VI!
but then I can't watch more of these videos. Sad.
What’s wrong with your game? Turn 424 and you only have 3 cities and still researching civs and techs?
I just started a game in the modern area or something to set this up! So I didn’t actually play the full thing 👌
Oooh bet i understand so you could unlock it right away to make the video, totally makes sense maybe I was too high or not high enough when I commented I was just confused 😬
Peacefully playing France and building preserves + chateaus….5 keshigs and 2 knights arrive on my borders…. Rage quit.
I tried six but could never play it. All the other Civs would dogpile me and everything developed so slow.. No fun.
You have no prod... and the Preserve is expensive.

It really pisses me off that you decided to put your face over the stats the whole time you recorded
But it's cost population
You screaming so much.
This needs to be nerfed, it simply destroys the point of other districts/land interactions....
I disagree. It just gives you another path to success. Most civs and/or maps won't be able to take advantage of this.
omg turn down your mic
Good content, but could you restrain your voice just a little? You're basically screaming all the time.
I'd love to watch but you constantly yelling is kinda ruining it
Really have to scream ? Can't watch it
Yelling? thats not yelling you just have your volume too high
