How To Use iPadOS 16 And Stage Manager On An External HDMI Monitor Or TV With An iPad Pro USB C HUB In this video I show how to connect an iPad Pro to an external HDMI monitor or TV so you can use the Stage Manager function of iPadOS 16 on the external display. For this example I'm using a USB C hub by Cable Creation. This gives you a 4K 60FPS HDMI output as well as two USB A ports that are USB 3, a gigabit ethernet port, full size and micro SD card slots and a USB C input for power. The important thing here with the Cable Creation USB C hub is that while it does not go full height in mirrored mode it does go full 16:9 widescreen when in extended desktop mode. In extended mode you can also switch on Stage Manager. Keep an eye on my channel as I will be doing a lot more videos about iPadOS 16 and Stage Manager during the beta stage and on final release. There will also be some gaming on iPad Pro videos. I have played around with Beta 2 for a while now and use the Apple Bluetooth & Trackpad (not the Magic Keyboard Case) - I agree ,stage manager is not really something that I will use, however what I find most satisfying is to use the full external monitor and not mirror mode

It's nearly great but it looks clunky trying to put two apps side by side in this view, which is the way I generally prefer to multi-task. Also, hiding windowing options under the three dots looks awkward too. Couldn't they at least have had those options appear when hovering the cursor over to save a click?
Hi Michael. Yes, it is very clunky. I don't know if you've used DEX on certain Samsung devices, it's basically an extra UI feature that gives Android a desktop layout with multitasking etc. DEX is a lot better than Stage Manager and it also feels like you are on a desktop, as opposed to whatever it is that Apple are trying to achieve. I know this is the beta that I'm using but it does feel like it's a long way off from being a solid UI function and there's also a lot of functionality problem that need sorting. I also have a feeling that we are going to see a lot of problems with apps not being able to go full 16:9, especially games. I wouldn't be surprised if iPadOS 16 is delayed from what Apple had initially planned for its release. If this does happen, then it may also mean the delay of the next iPads. One way or another, Apple do seem to have their work cut out for themselves and at the end of the day, this Stage Manager function may still end up being a bit of a mess because it's neither a mobile UI or a desktop one. While many people are screaming for such functionality or even MacOS on iPad, there's probably a very good reason why Steve Jobs never even intended on iOS or iPadOS devices having even a pointing device option, let alone a desktop type UI option for either of those operating systems. I think Apple may come to regret blurring the lines between their iOS/iPadOS portable devices and their laptop/desktop PCs. Cheers, Dave.

Hi Leo. Unfortunately, Apple have removed that function from the official iPadOS 16 release because they were having too much trouble with it during the beta phase, which was 16 and the new iPads were delayed. For now, you can only screen mirror. Apple have said that they will bring back Stage Manger for external monitoring in a future update but haven't said when. They actually stopped it on the last beta version before the official 16 release but have introduced it again on the first beta after the official 16.2 update release. For all the messing about that I had with the beta versions, I wouldn't bother with the the new 16.2 betas. Once you load any beta you can't go back to the original official release until the next official update comes out after the beta. Apple really screwed up with Stage Manager and the external monitoring. Cheers, Dave.
When it came out, everything worked fine for me. I used a USBC hub with my IPad Pro M1 and connected to my Smart TV with the HDMI cable. Now nothing works at all. The picture on the IPad is simply mirrored on the TV. The "Arrangement" interaction has also disappeared. Any solution? Or its a bug? By the way.. the IPadOS version is up to date (16.5) and My TV is capable of displaying 4K resolution and can also display 1920x1080 resolution.
Hi. I’m also having various problems with my iPads, which seem to happen after updates. I have an iPad Pro M2 which I have iPadOS beta on, an iPad Pro M1 with the standard iPadOS and an iPad Mini 6 with the standard iPadOS. All of them now have various problems when in the past they didn’t. One issue I have is that the audio doesn’t get passed down HDMI, or takes a long time to switch over. Another issue is that I now have letterbox on some of the outputs when in the past it was full height. I have about 12 USB C hubs and the ones that were fully working in the past now have some kind of issues. I’ll be testing two new hubs in the next couple of weeks and will do some videos if they work out. As far as I can tell, these are problems introduced by Apple and the OS. Cheers, Dave.
Unfortunately, Apple removed this function until a later version of iPadOS. You can still use this function if you are using the latest beta of iPadOS but I wouldn't bother with the beta versions as they can be a bit unstable. Cheers, Dave.
Great youtube example 😜 Stage manager i guess is useful if you have multiple apps open. But i am like you, i like to use the whole screen to see the app i'm using. i think i will buy the usb c hub for a backup (at my dj gigs). Cheers!
RUclips never looked so good 😂👍 Same here, Tone, I want the whole screen with any app that I’m using. However, I do understand that some people want to see more than one app, although you can only interact with one at a time and I don’t think many apps will run properly in the background when focused on another. Plus, even on an external monitor I’d want to see the whole app or game, hence using the bigger external screen and on the iPad’s screen you’re looking at a much smaller screen. I still think that Samsung’s DEX mode on their tablets and phones is way better than Stage Manager. DEX feels just like a computer OS, like Windows or MacOS, it’s basically Android but with a desktop layout. As for the hub, there’s a slightly better one by Docktech, I’ll get a link for you later. It should be the same or close to the same way how windows and Mac works which allow users to freely resize and move their app windows More apple users will switch to Samsung DeX when Apple Stage Manager continues to annoy users with its half-baked Functionalities

No, the maximum the iPad can do over HDMI is 60Hz, although its own screen can do 120Hz.
