I thought I would love stage manager for a better drag & drop experience, but found myself quite frustrated by always having to rearrange app windows. They kind of never seem to be falling into the right place/size.
Now I’m mostly back to Split View or Slide Over, and find that a lot less time consuming, and thus more productive.

Been using stage manager now since it’s release. It’s an excellent feature. Has sped up the way I work and use my iPad (with a keyboard). Tried, for a day, to go back to working without it (stage manager) but it was like having a finger removed and trying to type. It became instantly a natural way to work for me. It needs some tuning, like how it resizes videos…it’s not elegant yet. No doubt it will only get better.

    Great video!
Stage Manager solves a problem for those of us who use Mevo Multicam software for switching multiple Mevo cameras. Prior to this if you ran another app on the iPad the Mevo app would lose connections to all of the cameras requiring them to reconnect. It also interrupts a live stream.
Stage Manager on the iPad now provides the required resources to keep the cameras connected.

You can switch stage manager on and off. When it’s off, you have the traditional options of split and slide over. For switching, it is convenient to activate this option in control center (as explained in the video).

After adding an external 4K monitor and Logitech Combo keyboard, I’m enjoying the use of Stage Manager. There are some quirks (even some applications that do not behave properly using Stage Manager … e.g. Proton Mail, etc). Overall, however, I’m finding it very useful. I’m struggling to find a complete (thorough reference) on swipes specific to the external monitor. I have experimented and identified some shortcuts on my own, but I’m sad to see no in-depth RUclips videos that dive at this depth. I appreciate your video, however. Thank you for the intro.

I love Stage Manager on my MacBook Air. I can’t use it without anymore, I hated swiping between those windows or desks or whatever. But 11‘ is not big enough. Even when the apps are full sized it’s sometimes not enough, so I don’t want to give up space. And if I already have to swipe to open those parts, I can swipe a little longer as before to see all apps that are working in the background. But well, I need to test it out I guess

I’m very happy with Stage Mgr. However, iPadOS 16.1 was swarming with annoying bugs that spoiled a lot of the fun. I am at this moment using 16.1.1 the first time and it seems many have been squashed. They had to do with text selection using the Magic Keyboard and a number of conflicts between Accessibility functions. So far so good.

Thanks for the excellent video. ISSUE: With Stage Manager “on,” I have found that closing apps via swiping up from the bottom, and then further swiping up the app icon to be closed is no where near as “fluid” as it is without Stage Manager on. It’s as if I have to swipe the icon in precisely the right vertical angle to get it to go up and away. Otherwise, it just sits there, while I try again and again. FYI. Thanks again.

I do like Stage Manager (SM) and it is working well. I am using it on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro with the A12Z CPU. One issue that I have observed is the SM seems to automatically center new windows on the screen and those can’t be repositioned-resized, but not repositioned. Even with multiple windows open, SM does not let me position windows exactly where I prefer each. Maybe is a function of the A12Z chip?
Keep producing the great instructional videos. Best wishes,
    Bob

I have used Stage Manager on and off from the first public beta. Personally I find it messy and on every occasion I have tried, I have switched back off again within the day. Having random size overlapping windows on the desktop is something I dislike about MacOS, so really is not going to appeal to me on iPad. So I have gone back to using split screen and slide over when I want multiple documents open at once. I think it good that Apple has given us the option to use the iPad in different ways depending on our own uses, and personal preferences - but for me split screen is a lot quicker and more efficient

The fact that new apps open in a new space instead of the current space is the one thing that absolutely kills it for me. When I open an app, it's cuz I want to use it in tandem with the other app. If I didn't I wouldn't be using Stage Manager.

I’m loving the new Stage Manager both on iPad and on my Mac mini. I use iPad as my main display for my headless Mac mini via wireless Sidecar aka mirroring. I really wish Apple would make this a fully seamless experience out the box. But for this of us who wants to use our Mac mini and iPad this way and have figured it out. It’s the only way for me going forward. Stage manager reminds me of that Windows feature where you hover over the dock icons and shows you all the windows that were open for that app but of course stage manager is much better because there’s no hovering and it’s visible when you want it to be.

I’ve been so kind of puzzled by the tech vloggers who are dismissing it as useless and stupid because it somehow isn’t… a thing Apple always says it was never meant to be? Anyway, I really enjoy what you make and how you make it. Please, dear god, avoid the tendency toward tech vlogger clickbait. It’s so tiresome.
