- Using an iPad with and external monitor used to be a hot mess, but now it is amazing! At this point a lot of people could use an iPad as their only computer!

Apparently this was removed with some recent updates.
Hang in there, they should add it back in soon.
Ah. I just got my USB c hub expressly for this. That's unfortunate timing
@@derf213 yeah, it’s a bummer but I would imagine they’ll add it back in in the next few updates.
They don't want to allow that. They want you to buy an expensive mc book even for the basic stuff
Hopefully it's back in iPados 16.1
Just checked. It dose not
I had a 10th gen iPad ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.
Connect a USBc hard drive for extra space
I use my iPad as a secondary display when I need multiple displays. I prefer to use Duet Display instead of Stage Manager or Sidecar. Plus, it works well when using my Windows laptop as a second display
An experience marred a lot by that big silly circular pointer that apple thinks we shouldn't have an option to change to an more accurate arrow.
What a much needed addition to the iPad. I’ve been hoping for this as an option for years. I thought I saw something about this coming so did a search and here you are confirming. Awesome!
Yeah, I'm SO happy they added this, it works really well as well!
this is so strange.
i downloaded the latest update on my ipad, hooked it up with an adapter (indeed HDMI to usb-c), switched on stage manager and it does not come right up.
still only mirroring.
you never walked us through set up ....... I plugged it into my computer and nothing is happening.....
I definitely agree…
Did you plug it into your computer or monitor ?
You have to have a mouse and keyboard connected to use external monitor if not it will just mirror the screen.
U stupid?
the iPad OS 17.4 broke the external display support.
Hi, I've tried connecting my m1 ipad pro to an external display (via hdmi), 2k Phillips monitor. but I got a blurry display on it. do you have any idea to solve it? currently using ipados beta 16.2. thanks.
I have iPad Pro running OS17. I have a USB-C to Hdmi cable connected to an Asus monitor. I have an Apple Magic Keyboard. I get nothing on my Asus monitor. Any ideas?
Same here, I guess this is not supported anymore
Can you get the iPad on a display/large touchscreen or tv AND projector at same time?
Also how can I get iPad directly into projector with hdmi and not airplay? I’ve tried hdmi converter and good cable but won’t show on projector
This is great thanks!
in my case it worked on a projector using usb-c to hdmi cable
Great video ❤.
I can’t connect my m1 ipad pro to s4msung tv untill now. I dont know how its work, i already using magic keyboard also.
But s4msung tv still not detec on disply setting on ipad.
When connected to dual display, does Ipad screen need to be turned on all the time? If not, will Ipad battery last longer?
0:01 I turned on Stage Manager on my iPad 12.9 5th g and it worked yesterday, which seemed to enable to iPad to monitor connection. Today I only get an error message on the monitor : No HDMI signal. I have tried connecting with usb c to hdmi cable direct and through a hub which provides charging port and standard usb port. They all worked before. What can have changed?
Thank you for this video. I have an 10.9 iPad M1 on a Magic Keyboard. I currently have iPadOS 16.1 loaded and am using an Anker usb-c hub. The problem I have is even with Stage Manager on, I can only get my auxiliary monitor (3 yr old 24in 75 Hz Asus) to “mirror” the iPad. Part of the problem I’m sure is that I’m brand new to anything Apple. Any suggestions?
Idk if you’ll see this but you have to plug in a m/kb
I had the same problem. When i had the public beta on the ipad, it worked perfectly, but after i installed ipados 16.1, it only mirrors the screen.
The later versions of the beta did not have full monitor support as it was bugging and apple had to release the software, this feature should be coming with iPadOS 16.2
@@Djidgy mouse / keyboard. Thanks!
Hi, stupid question but have to Ask. Love procreate and can’t leave it behind but need A larger screen to Draw on. So my question is:
Could you connect your iPad to ar drawing screen/drawing tablet such as Wacom or such. And then open Procreate in iPad and also Draw on the Wacom in procreate?
Wow you can run desktop class apps on a +$1000 machine 🐸
I have been doing this with an hdmi lightning adaptor since iOS7 (about 2013)/ No hardware, no software, no subscriptions. It still works and apple sells the adaptor dude!. And you can use quicktime to mirror your iOS device, or, even record the screen. Plus there is sidecar for iPad too.. so dunno what you r using this method
But how about watching a movie on the external display. How can I turn off my iPad screen when I’m only watching the movie???
Can you use a touch screen monitor and be able to control apps using touch instead of a wireless keyboard?
Yes and no.. you can use the touchscreen, but without a keyboard and mouse hooked up it won't go into the full screen mode, it will only mirror the display / resolution of the ipad on the monitor.
That being said, you can just hook up the mouse and keyboard and never touch it if you want.
Doesn’t work for me. I have a usb c to hdmi that I plug an hdmi into and then into my monitor. Monitor never turns on
Do you have an M1 iPad with iPadOS 16?
@@Eevnos i do, but I recently heard apple took it away with the latest update smh
@@Eevnos they removed it in the last update…..
Tell me please, for a person with very poor eyesight, 27 inch monitor with what resolution is better to buy so that the elements displayed on it through the iPad Pro M1 were as large as possible? FullHD, 2K or 4K? I know that on the iPad you can select the magnification of screen elements, but I do not know which of these three resolutions of the monitor will be the largest elements? I would really appreciate an answer. Thank you!
Can some one please help me. when I connect my ipad to my monitor using Hdimi it comes up as if it was screen mirroring. How to I fix this.
Turn on stage manager
You have to have either a Bluetooth mouse / keyboard connected too for it to work!
Use a keyboard
One thing that these videos don’t mention, is that you need to enable “allow display mode changes”. It can be found in settings, in display and brightness. Then click the connected display and enable it, otherwise it will just mirror the iPad screen.
I’m having the same issue
i have a question, more of a theory crafting idea but do you think this could work? if ipad is using external monitor as such if you were to sidecar the ipad when its docked as such does sidecar actually bring both the ipad screen and the external monitor or does sidecar not accept the external monitor and only uses the ipad? The whole point would strictly be for aestheic purpose so like a docking station with all the external monitors and then pass them through the ipad. once ipad is set up then use sidecar from macbook to take ipad w/ entire docking station as a wireless docking station? get what im trying to say. i can try to explain better if you reply.
So ...I need a "keyboard duck" that can let my m1 ipad output full screen to the monitor ?
Is it possible to change the monitor row like on a Windows PC?
E.g. now I always have to move the mouse down to get to my iPad even though my iPad is on a tripod on the right.
I would like to move the mouse to the right on my external monitor so that I can get to the iPad because that confuses me. I didn't find anything on Google
And it took how many years after Android added this feature? At least we have it now. Sigh, M1 iPads only….really?
I use the pencil , on the iPad, for sketching ideas etc, does it still work with this set up?
I tried this with my iPad Pro. Went back to my Mac Mini after 30 minutes.
How come it freezes when u I plug my m1 iPad Pro into my old 27in Thunderbolt Display? The Thunderbolt Display is too old?
Does the iPad also recognize wired keyboard and mouse connected with the dock? Would be a shame if they‘d force me to use Bluetooth devices…
Hi there, yes it does indeed recognize the wired keyboard and mouse.
can M1 Ipad pro output 120hz to external monitor that monitor have 165hz? thank u
can you also play videos games using the monitor such as minecraft
The Ibanez behind is played from time to time?
I have a beautiful Fender stratocaster guitar model ST 57' DSC HGM (Harvest Gold Metal) "order made", MADE IN JAPAN, in the famous factory in Fujigen in 1990.
It is an 'ORDER MADE', that is to say, 'Out of catalog', special manufacture for Japan in very few copies
With scaloped fingerboard, brass nut and Dimarzio single coil pickups
I love this guitar it makes me want to play often
Can we make full screen on monitor while connected to iPad
I’m having a hard time getting audio
How to control the apps on the second screen without an external mouse/keyboard?
side note, i was able to link my ipad mini to a smart tv with a Roku, for youtube....
My iPad Air 4 gen doesn’t have stage manager that I can see. Where do you find it?
This is a much needed feature for the iPad family of devices. I wonder how much Apple will allow us to fully utilize this feature? 😮😊
I have a question, more of a theory crafting idea but do you think this could work? if ipad is using external monitor as such if you were to sidecar the ipad when its docked as such does sidecar actually bring both the ipad screen and the external monitor or does sidecar not accept the external monitor and only uses the ipad? Hello i cant connect to my monitor….
I have a “studio display” and IPad Pro 4th generation with M1 chip. Unfortunately I am not able to get full widescreen, only mirror screen display. I have keyboard dock + stage manager. Neither one works for me. I updated the IPad to the latest update and did not have any luck. Do you know why that is happening? @Eevnos
Hey mine was working but now when I try to use monitor it’s only mirroring it wont give me the options in settings no more
Same. Can somebody help please?
Same here it only mirror
Same wtf
Read the Jorge Aliaga comment above from yesterday, in the replies - someone explains that they removed the functionality that we see in this video that was in the iOS 16 Beta for the iOS 16 public release. Same for me as well, Ive tried a thunderbolt display, 4k monitor, ultrawide, using DP, HDMI, 2 different adapters, etc. - all of it just mirrors. I bought my iPad pro after watching this video for this feature, so yeah.
Same
sir is there a way to mirror ipad directly after booting? my ipad screen is broken and blank
When I connect the HDMI to the USB-C Hub just mirrors my iPad Air 5 2022 but not expands. Any ideas to solve it…?
I just tried to make my M1 Pro full screen on my Samsung m8 monitor through hdmi and it’s not making it full screen . I have the masters ios 16 I got today . Please help !
Does the ipad screen needs to be on if you are still working on monitor?
yes, otherwise it youll see a black screen
If youre amazed with that, try a samsung phone with dex and see how it runs a full desktop. It makes apple a dinosaur.
For the keyboard requirement, will the feature work if you have a USB keyboard plugged into the same dock you’re hooking hdmi up to?
you do not need a keyboard
I just get on the Mac and go to display and click the "+" then click "iPad" and auto connects as an extended display!
Does this work for 2018 iPad Pro?
I have an M4 iPad and i have flickering issues. USBc -c to display port. Anyone else?
I have a keyboard synced to my iPad and I have the stage manager on. However, my screen is still not taking up the entire screen so it still looks like it’s mirroring. I also updated to IOS 16.1. Any idea what’s I can do to correct?
i want to see it in action not you talking about it
Is it possible to edit video off an external drive AND use a second monitor at the same time- using a hub?
Have you tried this feature yet? If so, what has your experience been?
They removed it
Can we use iPad 10.2 to external display ?
Are you saying they removed the ability to extend to a monitor? Is it not going to be available in the actual iPad 16 release? If not, that takes away a lot of the attraction of the iPad Air.
@@garretglaser1777 I believe it will be back in the full release
@@DeltaPvP_ thanks for your reply! Is it because I installed iPad OS16 last wknd that the feature was not avail. And maybe the build used by Eevnos had extend to display available because it was an earlier release that had the feature?
So it can’t work if I have an iPad with a lightning port ?
Guys how do you get rid of black bars on the sides? If i connect ipad it just mirrors everything in 3:4 format…
Can you charge the iPad while it is connected to the external monitor? Thinking of replacing my current Macbook Pro with an iPad
There are adapters that will allow you to do both at the same time. Try the j5create USB-C
only if you have a magic keyboard and charge it through the keyboard
You can, the dock I use allows you to charge the iPad while it's hooked up in this configuration.
Check out the link, in the description, for the dock I'm currently using.
Can you lock the iPad or close it and still use the external display? Alternatively, can I use apps on the external display whilst I use a different app on my IPad?
Is it fullscreen supported for any ratio?
I have an ipad air 4. I wish it supported stage manager.
i can finally do this now that i downloaded iPadOs 16.2 but i'm wondering, is this also possible with the ipad screen off ?
What keyboard are you using for the iPad?
Good video. Can you explain the ipad (LumaFusion) to desktop (Davinci Resolve) XML transfer? That sounds pretty awesome, not to mention you get rid of a chunk of video you really don't need/want. Do you lose any quality? How is LumaFusion with 4k H.265 (GoPro/Iphone)? Thanks!
Hey there, thanks!
You don't lose any quality because it's exporting and XML file and using the original media.
When you import it, into Resolve, it's just a file that tells the software where the cuts and edits are and uses the original media.
It is kind of limited though, you can't do all the color correction, effects, etc.. and export that.
I've used it to do my initial edits, in LumaFusion, and then exported it to the desktop and finished the edit in Resolved..
iPad does not fill screen on external monitor. How can get it to do that?
Do you have a keyboard and / or mouse hooked up?
Without one that it will just mirror the display, rather than outputting full resolution.
Do you know if you can go the other way and use the iPad as a monitor, say from a drone controller that has a HDMI output? I was thinking about using my iPad Pro M2 as a monitor from my DJI RC PRO controller? Thanks ahead of time
After connecting my ipad to external monitor colors on my monitor so nasty and oversaturated. It is sad that I cant load my calibrated monitor color profile to the ipad for proper display colors presentation
What’s the name of the monitor
For being able to charge and display at the same time, do you have to use a Thunderbolt hub or is a regular USB-C hub with PD sufficient?
Thank you Apple for providing day 1 functionality how many years late?
Does this work with iPad Pro 3rd gen (2018)?
If it got m1 then I think ye
we been using external dsplays for long time now on ipadsyou dont need and ipad M1 to do it or even type c how ever it does work better with an m1 or m2 ipad so you can get a larger view but like i said been doing this for long time now on ipads even with lighten ports
I hear you say "it will run apps". I need to run Chrome with at least 7 windows plus Office occasionaly. I presently use my Surface Pro 4 10 hours a day X5 week. So 2 questions, will it run that many windows and can it last all day like this old S Pro does? I would love to go to Apple. Thank you.
I have been using my MacBook and external display for editing with LumaFusion because of the screen size but it will be nice to get back to editing on the IPad with a external display.
How is the mouse circle ? Do we finally get to the point and not just a dot with Stage Manager?
Do you recommend a 4K display?
The mouse is circle because it replicates your finger. If you mean by “the point” a pointer cursor, then no.
If you have the money, yes.
Yeah, Lumafusion works great with the external display on the iPad!
The circle is the same, at least in the beta, I don’t think they’ll change that anytime soon (if at all).
I actually ditched all my 4k monitors and went with 1440p displays.
I was always scaling the 4k, to 1440p, for readability anyway.
For me it’s much nicer being able to use the native scaling at the native resolution.
Can’t find a scenario where I’d use this. Tried it on day one after updating to iPadOS 16.1 but lost interest as I preferred using the existing multitasking gestures and options. Wonder how many more iPadOS major releases until we’d have a proper desktop environment when connected to an external display. Perhaps that rumored macOS lite… someday
How did you fix the project sizing on the external screen? It is square still for me😢
You have to have a mouse and / or keyboard hooked up and turn on stage manager.. otherwise it’ll just do the default mirror.
@@Eevnos I have both, and doesnt happens.... An interesting question... from the config, iPad Pro M1 11', Magic Keyboard, USBC Hub, HDMI to Samsung 24' Monitor LF24T400FHLXZS, the problem is that in settings the display & briteness menu does not offer the monitor arrangement view (Retina+Samsung), so differentiated screens are not accessed, only the screen replica, what do you say?
@@jaliagah Hey man, same for me, a string above had some commenters saying that functionality that is seen in this video using iOS 16 Beta was removed in the iOS 16 public release that you and I have downloaded. I bought an iPad Pro 12.9 after watching this video exactly for this functionality demonstrated in the video. Read the Jorge Aliago thread above from around 10/27 or 10/26 for more info.
@@amante762 install the 16.2 beta and you will be on a perfect external monitor working!! Already done and runs perfect
@@jaliagah Thank you for the info! I did try but I will have to wait... I looked into the beta, but it seems to require a $100/yr. developer membership cost. I have 90 days to return the iPad so I'll wait for the regular release of 16.2. Thank you again.
If only iPad was useful. 10 years and the iPad still a mediocre handheld device doesn’t support any software
It does not work with iPad Air M1? :(
Good video. Just getting started and thinking about a monitor trying cost to a minimum.
Star trek is great
You don't need a modern Ipad to have multi-screen. Duet app is the original multi-screen app that works amazing.
duet is slow
These looks an ideal, and cheaper route, for editing RUclips videos and using an ipad as a computer. Can you also have screens, such as Netflix, playing on the monitor, and a different application showing on the ipad screen?
Why is the keyboard needed, is that purely a requirement to get the monitor to in effect become like Samsung DeX?
Great video by the way, thank you for sharing 👍.
I’ve been using the beta for about a month now and what really annoys me is there is not display scaling on the external monitor. I have it hooked up to a 48” OLED Monitor and it’s comical how big everything is. I’m hoping they add scaling like they do for the internal display.
You should mention it in the bugs and comments sections in the beta so apple can look into it
there is scaling in the settings
@@cawashka You can only scale the internal display. If you have an external, the only thing I can do is allow fir mode changes and hdr/sdr.
wow so the m1 and up ipads i capable to run on an external oled monitor? tia
Thank you for the Luma Fusion reference, a nice thing to check out 👍
I've been thinking about a monitor connected to my iPad but you convinced me otherwise in the first 35 seconds. I was hoping it would be as easy as "this wire goes to that plug". I should have known better. I appreciate you starting the vid the way you did. I saved me 5 minutes and 27 seconds which, come to think of it, I frittered away writing this comment.
Very cool 😊
This could work, but Apple will never allow it because it will eat up their other products.
Having a nightmare with USB C and my iPad Pro M2, I'm into music production and when you plug a USB C cable into the iPad you completely lose sound...its bizarre.
The M1 and the ability to basically turn this into an iMac 🖥️ was a VERY IMPORTANT factor in my decision.
And I have that exact same specter monitor. 😂
Can you enlarge the Home Screen icons to make it resemble a iMac home screen
Umm but there's a catch the external device must support iOS or macos system to cast, screen share, through wire wirless or mirror, etc,
There is a small software of apple support stuff if the device whom you connecting doesn't support. Then say goodbye.
Mostly TVs have apple support kind of software on laptop or computer come software can be used to connect. There are lot of options though but you need to check the external device is it compatible at all or not
You don’t need any special hardware for the external display, with Stage Manager, to work through a wired connection.
You can connect it to pretty much any display.
All you need is an Ipad with an M1 chip....
OH yeah AND all you need is a newer version of Ipad OS that's not out Yet
OH yeah AND all you need is a Keyboard attached to your ipad
OH yeah AND all you need is a way to get it to the monitor
OH yeah AND you need an adapter / Dock
bro. 🤦♂
When you say keyboard dock you mean that’s why my m1 wouldn’t show in full screen? Because I wasn’t using a Bluetooth keyboard??
I can`t do nothing with sound =( After I connected type-c dock with HDMI and connecting HDMI to any monitor my iPad become muted and there are no any sound from it. Ofcourse my monitor also don`t have speakers. I think ipad automatically want to send audio via HDMI.
It have mouse icons really stupid, why can't make it seem like macbook's mouse icon
Hi
I have ipad air 5 with iOS 15.7 software
What i need?
You need iPadOS 16.
You can either install the beta or wait for the final release.
iOS 16 has been released, on the iPhone, and they are working on releasing iPadOS 16 very soon.
Hi, what about music making with external midi controllers involved ? Anybody gave it a try ? Noticed any latency/delay on notes played ? Tnx
i just hooked my M2 ipad pro to my tv but the image does not extend, it's still just mirroring.
i have no idea how to makr this work...
Can you shared the image on teams?
