I like this so much better than other methods I've seen for eliminating the pockets on the back! I'm about to do this on my main mosaic WIP since I'm only a few rows in. Thanks for sharing what your grandma taught you!
Thank you! very well explained!! It is a much easier method!! Thank you for sharing!! You have a new follower! Regards from South Africa and Happy Crocheting 🥰🧶🌺
Hi, I was a bit confused, as when searched for negative stitch found at least 3 different ways how to do it. BUT, when did approx 23 rows, noticed that pattern is a bit squished as this negative stitching holds everything down? And part of the pattern doesnt sit right.. It looks amazing, but working on same pattern, same yarn and same hook, after those 23 rows its smaller by 7-8 mm, and its a bit stiffer than without negative stitch. So should it be like this or im doung something wrong? Maybe pulling yarn through lower back loop too tight? But trying to do it as loose as possible, so not 100% sure if thats right?
Hi! So, I originally put the negative stitch out a few years ago. It is something I learned from my grandma and have been using since the 80s. Other people have taken this technique and done their own videos, or in some cases, their own spins on the stitch I originally named and put out. In my experience over all these years using the negative stitch, if you have a tighter tension, it will cause some shrinkage in height. I have occasionally crocheted tight and took off an inch or two from the projected height, but did again with looser tension and had way less shrinkage.I haven't had a pattern not sit right, but typically, mosaic crochet pieces do get a slant while crocheting. That can be corrected with a border, or blocking. I would try loosening my tension to see if that helps with the shrinkage. Also make sure you are going into the stitch right below and not to either side of the dc you are anchoring. I hope this helps! If not, check out my blog for more info and other places to find picture tutorials and other things related to the negative stitch and overlay crochet. spanishclovercrochet.com
You'd have to do one, or the other. This negative stitch also eliminates the pockets, so if you have used a different technique already in the piece you're crocheting, then you can't go back and use this one on top of it.
Clever grandma you have !❤
Great demonstration. Simple, precise, to the point.
Great video. You gave us a clear understanding of how to create the flat back (no flaps) and a design on the reverse side. THANK YOU!
😮 this is really all it is? What a great video! Very easy to follow.. thank you so much ❤
Wish I had known this before I started my first time overlay project. Thank you!
This is fantastic and so easy! Great demonstration of how to do it! Thank you! ❤

Thank you! You'll have to let me know how it goes!
You make this so easy to understand. Thank you, am attempting my first mosaic overlay.
thank you! and awesome! Have fun with your project!
Great tutorial, thanks. I’ve been stitching through the back loop just to close the pocket but this negative stitch is sooooo much better.
Awesome!
Magnificent! I hate the flaps created on the back and never knew what to do about it. Now I know. Thank you for the tutorial… ❤
This is so much easier to do than the Ldc I just learned. Thank you! I can't wait to try this on my next project!
Great video and explanation as well as technique, Sarah! Thank you.
Thank you!
You are a genius and I thank you very much! I had already been doing this about every 3 DC in a long pouch - but your way is much better!!
This is so helpful!! Thank you very much for sharing with us.

Aw! Thank you so much! Let me know how you like using this technique!
Thanks for responding and answering my question
Great video definitely learned the stitch have 3 overlays already started but will definitely use it with number4
I like it. I also like your video. Very informative. Good job!!
thank you so much! I appreciate that!
I adore this! Thank you so much 💓
Thankyou so much, much easier than I thought.
Wow thank you for making it simple
Made my day! ❤
Nice clear instructions! Thanks!
This is great! Wish I had known this sooner. Thank you and I have subscribed 😎
Omg I love this
Thank you very interesting 🌻
But how is the beginning?
How do i start, to geht front and back?
Thanks. This is great!
So if you are doing a kit should you need to purchase more yarn or would you be fine?
Thank you!
This is great, do you find that it increases the yarn requirements by very much? I will be using this for all my mosaic projects in the future.💖
Hi, thanks! It really doesn't use much more yarn than usual. I just finished a piece that calls for 200 yards and I used about 215 maybe.
@@SpanishCloverCrochet so if you have bought a kit to do would you need more yarn?
This is genius!!!!!!!
Love this tks ❤️
Awesome!

Like someone else asked about 7 months ago, I wonder if this method affects the drape of the blanket. Doen't it make it more rigid?
Hmm good question, I want my blankie to be flowy
I do a locking stitch to eliminate the pockets so I cant do the negative stitch right? I need the pockets to do the negative stitch correct?
You'd have to do one, or the other. This negative stitch also eliminates the pockets, so if you have used a different technique already in the piece you're crocheting, then you can't go back and use this one on top of it.
very clever
OMG what a game changer
