    Hi, Mike. One reason I chose to buy an MSI X570S Edge Max WiFi mobo was because it has ten fast USB ports, as well as BIOS flash and clear CMOS buttons, Wifi 6E, 2.5Gig Lan, Bluetooth, awesome sound, and four gen4 M.2 slots which I'll be filling up with 4 2TB drives, two of which will be in RAID 1. The tear down of my Main system and build of the new PC starts Tuesday morning. Also, I picked up a quick $20 today for cleaning a client's PC and upgrading her PCs bios and drivers. Hopefully it will be warm enough Thursday to paint my View 51 case. Cheers!

      @@mikesunboxing It looks like a good board, and it's cheaper than the AM5 stuff. Only cost $253 including tax. Uncle Sam always has to get his cut. LOL

    Thanks Mike - there are so many different configs for USB expansion - USB Type-C can be a good expansion toofor older PCs

    I love these things! when you have multiple USB cables top plug in and you run out of ports.... I have several printers and other gadgets connected to my system and I added one of these with 5 ext. and 2 int. ports and it really helps! the same goes with SATA cards.... I have one build, my "super server" that has 8 internal hard drives and 4 removable drives... love all these add on cards....

    Hey Mike! About a year ago I bougth the ORICO PCIe USB 3.0 card. 5 ports, it needs a molex adaptor for power. Good thing that this is plug n' play (mine one needs some VIA drivers). Thanks for sharing!

    Hey, Mike. Thanks for your video. I purchased one of these cards as an upgrade from USB 2. To my surprise it shows up on my device and works good in relation to my USB 3 Audio interface. Thanks, Man.

    Thanks, Mike. 👍
    My new m-ITX motherboard has 6 Type-A rear USB ports, and 1 Type-C rear USB port (with up to 20Gbps transfer rate, sometimes referred to as '2x2'). Not all of them do. I was quite picky about the number of USB ports it had too, because I need 4 Type-A's back there at a minimum (and there's no slot for an add-on like yours 😲).

    A would bet a LOT of computers out there being used arent taking advantage of unused PCI slots so might as well use them for this kind of thing. You can NEVER have enough USB ports 🙂

      agreed and with so many things to pull it you always need another port

    Your speeds will be limited by the pcie slot, for example pcie x1 is , 250MB/s per lane. Total link bandwidth is 2GB/s ( 4 lanes)

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Год назад

      yeah this will be fine for things like sd card readers and things like that, i have used a m.2 caddy on it and the speeds were good

    I had forgotten about expansion cards. Can you add extra internal ports say usb2.0 in same way? As its through chipset does it slow nvme storage that is also passing data thru chipset?
    Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath🐈👍

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Год назад +2

      Yes you can! and mostly it won't effect other device speeds but maybe disable a SATA port from the chipset

    Without additional molex or sata power? hmmmm. I don't remember if PCI-E 3.0 1x can give the necessary power and bandwidth to drive all ports at the same time. EDIT: OK, after research on wikipedia, PCI-E 3.0 1x has max 0.985 GB/s throughput. EDIT2: x1 cards are limited to 0.5 A at +12 V (6 W) and 10 W combined.

    I like the fact that it doesn't need a power cable but is powered from the PCIe bus itself... much easier to install! Could I ask you to recommend something similar featuring multiple USB C Type 3.1 Gen 2 ports Mike, whih again is powered by the bus only?

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Год назад

      i will look into it, the problem there would be the power restriction on the ports as USB C draws more power so might be limited to just 2 ports

    Question: I have devices such as a Stream Deck that can't run off of a USB hub. Is an expansion card the solution for devices that need to be plugged directly into the motherboard?

    Hi Mike! Just installed a no-name PCIE USB 3.0 card and it damaged Windows 10! Windows no longer recognized my E: and F: hard drives!. System file checker would not run (SFC /Scannow). I removed the card and rebooted 2 or 3 times before my hard drives came back. I tried the card in another slot... same thing. Have you seen this problem?

    my motherboard has a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slot, would this work for them? I'm unsure because I'm not educated in that type of stuff. Idk if I'm even looking at the right slots

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  9 месяцев назад

      you just need a small PCIe times 1 slot for this one it is about a quarter of the size of the 16x graphics card slot

    Does the X570 chipset recognize this as x1 PCIE lane in use, or do these 4 USB ports count towards the max number of supported USB ports the chipset can handle ?
