UNPLUG THE COMPUTER BEFORE STARTING!
All USB 3 PCI-E cards will be installed the same way. USB 3.0 is about 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

Should be mentioned that depending on what card you buy, some of them actually do require the auxiliary power to work correctly. I found this out the hard way when a card with a molex power connector on it ended up getting fried. Thankfully only the card fried and not the slot or mobo, but it should be kept in mind, especially if you're buying a cheaper card direct from China or something.

Cool. You might want to check Device Manager and see if you have any EXCLAMATION marks next to your USB drivers. If so, try right-clicking and update the driver. You could also try heading to your computers manufacturer page and try updating the BIOS and any drivers.
check your bios maybe your usb ports are disabled by auto enabler

When it comes to the CDs they include there are often the same drivers the manufacturer's website. There may even be newer ones there. Some people don't use CDs so much. I really can't remember the last time I used one. Even installing Windows can be done with a CD or DVD.

Why doesn't mine fit? I have a Dell Optiplex microtower. 4 PCIe slots. But the USB expansion is about 4.5" in size. The insertion slot on the microtower is only about 2.5". ... I even unscrewed it and took the back thing off. But it still won't fit. Any help would be appreciated. Is there a smaller type of expansion?

The PCIEX4 slot will share it's bandwidth with your PCIEX16 graphics card usually when the two are side by side like that. Check your motherboard specifications. It does not look right to me. But yes, it will work.
does the keyboard/mouse plugged in to USB shows in the BIOS? or only works in Windows with driver?
I just did this recently with a different card and my card needed the power cable. Without power cable, the card was listed in Device Manager, but it would not detect inserted USB devices.
I'm trying to upgrade my Dell XPS 8300 which only has a USB 2.0 port. I see there is plenty of info about adding a USB 3.0 card to my computer. I think USB 3.0 is double the speed of USB 2.0. But what about a USB 3.1 or USB 3.2? What can my computer handle? The RAM speed of my computer is 1333Mhz. I also see USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 have been renamed to USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.1 Gen 2. But when USB 3.2 came out they were renamed again to USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 3.2 Gen 2. I'd like to get the fastest my computer can handle. Transferring a whole external hard drive the other night took hours. I'm a photographer, it takes way too long to transfer hundreds of pictures to my computer through USB 2.0. I was going to get a USB 3.0 but I love to transfer faster than double what I'm doing now. Triple or quadruple would be great.
Thanks for the great video! A weird thing happened when I upgraded my GPU. My front I/O USB ports got throttled down to about 1 Mbps transfer speed. Both the 3.0 and 2.0 are equally unusable. I have one final driver-based intervention to try, but otherwise getting a new USB controller that has rear ports and a 20-pin seems the only way to get the front 3.0 back to speed. The 2.0 is less important to me.
I read on a forum that some mobos will cut power draw to front I/O, rgb ports, et cetera if the x16 slot has a high-demand GPU. Is this true? Have you heard of any solutions? Would you consider a controller upgrade like the one you demoed a worthwhile intervention to get the front 3.0 slot moving again? Thanks!

Great video! I added a USB 3.0 card to my 2011 Acer 3970 motherboard, Win10 drivers self-installed, and then my usb transfer speed from an internal drive to a USB 3.0 thumbdrive rose from 4 mb/s to 12 mb/s.

Hi, is my motherboard (gigabyte GA-MA790GP) compatible with a PCIe USB3? I have tried connecting it to the PCIe x1 lane but it doesn't work, the motherboard can't display anything on the monitor. Or do have I to connect it to the PCIe x16 lane instead? Since it's the one that already a PCIe gen 2.0 type, thanks.
I have a very similar card ,YEELIYA PCI-E , its 3 usbs and 2 usb-Cs, I have the SATA power plugged in , all it does is provide power to what ever I plug into it and doesnt respond to any external drives I plug into it, I believe it shows up as Fresco Logic Usb3 host controller but Im not sure, any suggestions?
Why won't the usb 3.0 pci-e card power my seagate external 3.0 HDD, it'll work just fine in a usb 2.0 port, but it won't light up the LED on the HDD, but I can feel it whirling inside, it's a 3.0 device that won't work in the added 3.0 ports, why?
Likely doesn't have enough power. Try reconnecting the power, and don't use the Molex to SATA adapter if possible, they can start fires ;)

I installed my host card and my PC says its detected and that its working properly BUT everything I plug into it only works for a second the stops. Sometimes it starts then stops over and over. Drivers are all good. Im very confused and frustrated. Its a Dell Optiplex 790 Mt i7, pcie slot with sata power cable connected. It has a green light that indicated that its on and working, when I plug in a usb device it reads for a second then the light starts flickering and the device disconnects. Please help, thank you!!!

Thnk u for the nice video. On my older computer with an asus motherboard Ramage extreme ii (pci-e 2.0 x 16 slut) I just installed such a card (the LC-PCI-usb 3.2). I use a samsung t-7 drive. Now it starts transferring great even at around 750 mb/sec but after around 6 secs it drops to 35 mb (which of course doesnt make much sence for me because I work with big video files). How ever, from the comp back to the drive it does transfer around 105 mb/sec. What am I doing wrong? How can I ghet at least the 100 mb/sec?
What is the difference between external power supply, and this one that you have in the video that is self-powered, or integrated power supply, I mean which will be better, external power supply or integrated power supply? I see that the external power supply are more expensive.
the PCI-E slot provides 75Watts of power, which might be plenty for USB cards but It depends

It will work for any motherboard brand that has the correct lane available. PCI is a standard.

Do you have any idea if there is any PCI that would be supported by this Dell model? Mine is an i7-10700,16 GB Ram, MB Dell 05GD68, Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB Sata, Pm991 NVMe Samsung 256GB (if any of that is relevant...). If not, what would be the best way to understand the compatibility between the Desktop and a PCIe USB card? Thank you so much!
PCI is a standard, so pretty much any expansion card should work. In most cases Windows 10/11 will automatically install the driver for it too.
Id look for something that gives you the speed you want, so probably a USB 3.1 or 3.2 expansion card. Maybe something like this amzn.to/3LE8adZ assuming you don't need a low-profile card.
There are plenty of others out there, that's just an example. So be sure to check the speed specs of each card you consider.
In most cases the PCI slot will supply enough power, but if you are running power heavy USB devices that are bus powered, there's also the option of buying a card with a power port where you will connect the PCs PSU to the card. In most cases this isn't needed though.
@@BenoniTech I really appreciate the reply! I have a USB mic and two video capture devices that seem to be very "hungry". According to the manufacturer, their devices need at least two USB root hubs in order to work when connected to the same PC, but I am not sure if that's the only issue. I would also assume that I need full-speed simultaneous transfer. My PSU is only 260W, do you think that adding a PCIe card with a power port that connects to the PC's PSU could cause a different problem?

Never used one, so I can't say exactly, but I don't know why it wouldn't. If you buy from Amazon you can always send it back for any reason.
