    what i find so facinating about Skyfall is, despite dying, Silva for all intents and purposes WON. He did exactly what he set out to do...M still died, he humiliated his former employers and brought them to thier knees....he wasn't terribly concerned with his long-term survival, and would have killed HIMSELF if Bond hadn't done it out of sheer spite.

    Two best Craig Bond villains--Le Chiffre and Silva--didn't have silly visions of global destruction. Le Chiffre was a man at the end of his rope, having to recoup his boss's $100 million or else die. Silva couldn't get over abandonment from the only person he had trusted. M's quip about orphans making the best agents is a hint that Silva, too, was an orphan--and perhaps saw a mother in M. It was these human motives that lifted Le Chiffre and Silva above the caricature that often marks the Bond villains.

    Silva was definitely one of the most unstable villains. He wasn't evil or even saw himself as bad. He saw himself as a hurt and betrayed person who in his own mind did nothing wrong. The way he can't finish M off when he has her suggests that he never wanted this chase to end because he has nothing left when it's over. Most probably, the only Bond villain who hesitated at the end.

  • @NMC21887
    @NMC21887 5 месяцев назад +18

    There’s two little things about this scene that stick out in a big way to me.
    The little gasp by M when Silva can’t bring himself to shoot her. She has not shown any emotion whatsoever to Silva. And when he finally puts the pistol to her face, he finally breaks her in that regard.
    Secondly, the really creepy tone and timbre in Silva’s voice when he says, “Free both of us.” Javier Bardem, in my opinion, never gets the credit he deserves for the use of his voice. He’s masterful with his.
    It’s the little things here that make the scene much bigger.

      I don’t think Silva was realizing that Bond was his real name in this scene (Silva had previously hacked Bond’s file to see he’s failed his tests for field duty clearance) he was realizing the irony of killing Bond’s surrogate mother right next to where his parents are buried

    • @Procrasti...
      @Procrasti... 10 месяцев назад +13

      I also think it links back to his speech about his grandmother's island. The fact he talked about spending time with his grandmother as a boy suggests that Silva may himself have been an orphan, which cements the whole "last two rats" metaphor. Standing at the grave of Bond's parents, he realises that they truly are mirrors of each other.

    • @NatureWatersProductions
      @NatureWatersProductions 2 месяца назад +1

      That is why I had ZERO Compassion for MI6 or M in this situation. I sympathized with Silva all the way. Something that M failed to do and after seeing the mess he caused….It STILL didn’t rattle her. She died un remorseful and that’s what’s upsetting. Silva til the end remained faithful to her. He couldn’t shoot her in the courthouse and he couldn’t shoot her in the chapel. Also Bond REALLY Pissed me off in this film too. He also remained faithful to M, Knowing he was also betrayed by her in the train scene.

    007 is the best film series of alltime. I enjoyed all of the Bond films. They are pure entertainment. I think Daniel Craig is the best, but Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan are a close second. Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton were great also, those to are super underrated. The first Bond film I saw was Tomorrow Never Dies, I enjoy more now than before.

    I'm honestly surprised at how many people rag on Daniel Craig's movies. Like, if the classic Bond films are any indication, most of them aren't known for great quality. I personally like just about all of them, but I know that some of them are pretty bad and are just guilty pleasures of mine. Especially in the Roger Moore era. This film, however, isn't one of those guilty pleasures. It's actually a good film in its own right, regardless of it being a Bond film.
