Themberchaud, titled the Wyrmsmith of Gracklstugh, was an adult red dragon allied with the duergar of Gracklstugh in the Northdark of the Underdark in the 14th and 15th centuries though he later relocated to the Hanging City of Dolblunde. His other titles were the Father of Flame, the Everburning, and the Foundry's Heart.

What I love about this scene is that Themberchaud IS a fat dragon, so he's a big round chonky boi, an adorable cross between bearded lizard and house cat. But he's a fat DRAGON, a merciless killing machine who easily wipes out the Theyan assassins and it takes our heroes all their luck and skill to not die. And this balance between ridiculous and ridiculously awesome makes the whole movie work.
He's a bit like a hippo: a silly-looking animal that's way more dangerous than it looks.
He might even be able to swim like a hippo too, if he got in shape. An amphybian dragon that could swim, and run underwater, easily jumping from across the waves...
Now, picture yourself on a medieval, wooden ship being rammed by this thing. 😬😬😬
The whole time this dragon was on screen, I couldn't help giggling in adoration. He's so chonky!!!! I love him!

RIGHT?! Themberchaud helped me realize just how much I absolutely LOVE fat animals. I already loved fat dogs and cats but he made me love any fat animal
I forgot his name, so I kept calling him “Chunky Dunk” the entire movie. But holy crap, is Themberchaud adorable.
I know his name, but I still only call him Roly Poly.
That or Chonkosaurus. Which is also my nickname for one of my cats, who's big boned and dummy thicc.

I just realized something wonderful.
When Holga hits Themberchaud in the face, she’s using the pommel of her axe to hit him. SHE IS DOING NONLETHAL DAMAGE!

He can - but he won't. He's been raised as a power source for a dwarven (okay, duergar) furnace, and fed anything he could eat in return. The big lug is fat and lazy - he'd rather find a bunch of underground critters and eat them. Which, given the fact that 96% of the population of the Underdark is composed by jerks, monsters and unbelievable bastards, is a GOOD thing.

Curiously, I wonder what Themberchaud looked like BEFORE he let himself go?
Now that he isn’t working for duergar as fire for there forges he won’t be sitting around doing almost nothing anymore so he’s almost guaranteed to get skinnier as he know has to be hunting his own food, steal for his hoard instead of getting paid, and since he’s not under psionics that keep him docile compared to normal he wants to be feared and respected by everything else especially other red dragons. So if he shows up again he will almost guaranteed be skinnier. He will also be more powerful, larger, smarter, and more magical as dragons in D&D don’t stop growing and becoming more powerful until there about to die of old age.

I mean, this was still a dumb move, cuz they had no idea how deep the ocean was above them. They could have easily drowned or got the bends getting to the surface.

Mmmm. No wonder i never watched this when it came out. It's for kids and "modern audiences." Campy garbage for the average consumerbot. They spent alot of money on CG but didnt seem to care about casting someone who can actually swing a weapon "barbarian woman".
You really think D&D isn't 'campy'? You must not have played much. This movie felt really genuine to me in how it represented the sprit of the source material.
@@Delta-V-Heavyit really did. There were so many scenes where you felt like you could see the rolls. Also fun fact: the final battle at least has turns following initiatives and correct pacing between the turns
